Assassin's Creed "Parity": Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

The statement released by Ubisoft makes everything even more insulting - they must really believe that gamers are nothing more than unintelligent apes that will buy anything they produce or believe anything they say no questions asked.

I find this line hilarious....

''At no point did we decide to reduce the ambitions of any SKU. All benefited from the full dedication of all of our available optimization resources to help them reach the level of quality we have today with the core Assassin's Creed Unity experience'' - if the PS4 SKU had the full dedication of optimization resources, how is it the exact same resolution and FPS as the Xbox One version?

Yup. I wonder what unpleasant surprises 2015 will hold when the PS4 domination continues.

I don't even have much hope for the PC port for this game given how Watch Dogs turned out :/

The sad truth is that this won't likely impact sales in any way...People won't even realize what's going on. At the very least, I'll know what happened and for the first time in AC history, I'll be skipping an installment. This is just a clusterfuck in everyway. I especially hate, how they lie to consumers faces.

Why didn't they pay to have Call of Duty Ghosts,Battlefield 4,Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare,etc.... gimped on the PS4?

I cared enough and that's why I've bought 3 360's. It's the baffling admittance of parity that is odd putting here clearly.

It's a fairly preposterous notion really. I'm not sure MS would be prepared to spend money on am exercise that

A: Gains them nothing
B: and generates yet more negative thoughts torwards MS

Nobody cares outside of enthusuast websites either.
 
Legit question to those saying this wasn't done on purpose. What evidence are you using for this. Here's mine.

1. Ubi flat out said they held the resolution back for parity. That statement cant be interpreted any other way.
2. Both games are 900p 30 fps despite a noticeable power difference.
3. Nearly every multi plat has had better resolution on PS4.
4. UBI gives a complete non statement to Kotaku purposefuly dodging the question.
5. The game just so happens to have a marketing deal with Xbox.


If you look at all of this how do you come to the conclusion this is anything other than Ubi holding back resolution.

yup me too, not supporting them at all this gen. MS has been at it for what 15 years now? They are a gigantic company and IMO should have a very robust output of first party games, and releasing with the weaker platform with such a larger backing company ? Meh, just don't like anything about X1 since this gen started besides Halo/Gears. And as usual, if they continue to be great must-play experiences, I will just find a friend with one lol. Nintendo for this gen of home console is technically still 2nd place though.

The real indicator that MS is behind this is the glaring lack of "forced parity" in the previous gen. It's pretty clear what's going on.

No. Absurd is what MS paying for parity would be.

Now have they? We don't know.

But what we do know is that MS isn't shy when it comes to throwing around money and trying to market themselves properly so as to not lose market share. They bought RotTR exclusivity, they forced blizzard to drop the framerate of Diablo III so they could claim parity with the PS4 version, they saw the momentum and branding Minecraft has and threw 2.5 billion at Mojang to attain rights... it's not like it's some crackpot conspiracy theory to think that MS couldn't be responsible for Ubi's decision to lock the framerate and resolution at this lower number.

And if you want really absurd?
How about Phil Spencer having a time machine, going back to the prehistoric era, trapping a bunch of tyrannosaurs and raptors, then moving ahead to just a few years ago when Sony is having design meetings for the PS4 and releasing his horde of angry dinosaurs into Sony headquarters.

We know there have been improvements on the XB1 side of development, we don't know if there have been any changes on the PS4 side. 900p may be what UBI is able to get out of that engine on that hardware.

Also, we don't know what other differences there could be between the two versions. My bet is that the PS4 version will have fewer frame rate drops and a better AA solution (or just any AA).

Did even read all the downgrade talk about WD? Do you think Ubi did it for shit and giggles? They did it because they couldn't do more than that with PS4 version. 900p in WD was the best PS4 could do.
However in ACU we have the producer of game saying 900p is because that was best XBO can do, and PS4 will have parity with XBO so people don't get mad.

MS is the only one that gains anything from this. Why do you think they sent extra engineers to Bungie and Blizzard to get their games up to snuff? It costs them sales and mindshare.

The head of the development team needs to get his or her shit together and say something about all this. The sooner, the better but I had a feeling since early on in the thread that they bite off more then they could chew when they were making the game or else it wouldn't have been the way it is right now, especially with all the claims they made at E3.

I've been here for almost 8 years and I assure you I have never said the following, until now.

PREORDER CANCELLED.

I knew in my gut when this gen started MS would resort to some sort of low ball stint like this but what I don't understand is how developers are playing ball with them. How do they have any clout in the industry anymore given their position in sales, it baffles my mind. MS has their hands in EAs, Activisions and Ubisofts pockets.

Activision had no issues running COD at a lower res on PS3, nor did rockstar and the list goes on, yet God forbid we upset Microsoft. So glad this is blowing up into a big issue cause it can't continue.

It's the same with WD man. Alot of PS4 games were forced parity with XB1.

Do or die. Shit is getting serious. Holidays. Can't afford another big multiplat to fail/underperform/create bad PR. All of the above rolled into one.

Ironically whether Microsoft is behind it or not they have yet another shitstorm to sail through.

To those claiming Microsoft having a hand in these parity decisions being an absurd notion, have you forgotten that Microsoft already has, as a matter of fact, forced parity in games, in particular with indie games?

Them shifting elements of these clauses over to the AAA stuff, to coincide with the marketing or other deals, is not at all far fetched, especially given their recent interest in parity and the furore caused by the Xbox One's lack of it.

Why you are finding so difficult to comprehend the outrage over this, even after countless fellow gaffers spelling it out for you? If ubisoft had come out and blatantly said they were going to deliberately gimp the resolution of x game on xbox one so that it would attain parity with the wii u version, for no other reason other than to avoid disgruntled wii u owners would you and other xbox one owners not feel angered? Maybe you would still shrug the protests as 'essentially console wars', but I kind of doubt it.
 
One thing that is clear: This is a major fuckup on Ubisoft's part from a PR perspective. They have completely failed in "avoiding the debate and stuff", as evidenced by this thread.

Any talk of MS paying for this parity is pure conjecture and is going off the deep end. All we know is Ubisoft admitting they are basically holding back the PS4 version - nothing is confirmed regarding if anyone from MS paid anything for this one specific decision.

Hell, millions of people still to this day buy Assassins Creeds game day one at full price knowing full well 1-2 weeks later it will be half off on Black Friday like clock work.

I dunno. I hope for Microsoft's sake, this wasn't anything contractual. Because, as a lay person, it looks like an anticompetitive tactic.
