I've long felt vocaloid can feel right at home in trance and other electronica, depending on how it's used.
Jrharbort Productions is a cool YouTube channel that uploads plenty of good examples. Like this amazing Green Hill Zone remix (not the monstrosity linked earlier!), or any of Aerial Flow's work.
Not only can it sound great, it really fits the whole "technology!" vibe of vocaloid that's right up my alley.

To be fair, I think there's an argument to be made about it not being safe for work.... seeing as at first it does look like a vagina, which might get someone in trouble at work (more so than just browsing GAF anyway).

The fact that so many people who didn't know Vocaloid are against this shows they definitely chose the wrong song to show. Heck, even the wrong Vocaloid, but Miku's the only one with a company willing to push her in the west.
The first Vocaloids were actually English (Leon and Lola, released in 2004), and there are a lot of non-Japanese made Vocaloids supporting many languages now like English (1 2 3), Spanish/Catalan (1 2 3), Chinese and Korean.
There are even Vocaloids made for opera (1 2)
It's a shame Vocaloid's associated with the Japanese anime looks (even newer English/Spanish Vocaloids now have a typical anime artstyle), because while I do enjoy that style previous western Vocaloids had different artstyles which made them even more interesting (and maybe slightly more appealing to people
