I wonder what people's main point is with the mass murder comparison. Is it just to say their opinion that they dont like games where multiply of enemies get killed? Or is it something more to the arguement?
I have the same with really detailed violent movies (movies like Saw and Guinea Pig), i really dislike those type of movies because of their content, but thats my problem and i keep in mind that they are movies. I also dont like to shoot/kill civilians in any games even if its possible, and it doesnt matter if the game looks realistic or not. Thats my problem (or "problem" since i dont really mind it), its not the developers fault.
Why is it ok to kill aliens by the way? What if the aliens have feeling too, and what if they are innocent? Hehe
(sorry i just had to say that =)). And when does Drake makes fun of mass murder?
There are ways to put your weapon away. The enemies are programmed to attack you regardless. Afterall, they are just virtual dummies, they are not real humans that can think for themself.Walk into a military base with a weapon. Oh my gosh, the soldiers may actually shoot first as well, because you shouldn't be there in the first place.
Try to put your weapon away. What? You can't? Well that's the issue then I guess.
This can be applied to basically every game where there is some sort of violence to multiply of enemies though. Take the latest Zelda game for example (Hyrule Warriors), what if some of the enemies are just defending their land or are being forced into the army? Then they are getting slaughtered in thousands by numbers by the psychopath Link. Try also put the weapon away in that game and see if the enemies dont attack you. The game is just programmed in a way that the enemies will attack you. Also let's just assume that for example the first "enemies" in Uncharted 1 just attacked, because they assumed that Drake was a bad guy. Or even let's assume those few were actual bad guys. The remaining 1500 people may have actually seen this and are in fact defending themselves from the mass murdering American psychopath that is Drake.
You're the one that has an issue with it though, not Naught Dog, so i would say that its your problem. I dont have an issue with that, but i think its best keep in mind that it is a game in the end, and also keep in mind that games are for the most part pretty much straight forward. I mean, i dont think that for example Nintendo put any thought into that the Goombas that getting killed in Super Mario might have a familiy or something, eventhough that its possible to do some analyzing like that. Nintendo just made those enemies with the simple concept of being the bad guys. Its the same thing with Naughty Dog and Uncharted as well. That's Naughty Dogs problem. They wanted to have pseudo-realistic graphics and even want to get more "realistic" on current gen. It was also their decision to make him a "nice guy" in cutscenes and a psychopath in gameplay (including making fun of mass slaughtering foreigners).
Replace those enemies with aliens and make Drake some robot or something like that and I wouldn't complain about it.
I would also be okay with it in case Drake was actually a psychopath in cutscenes as well. Then at least it would fit together and make sense.
