Driveclub PS Plus Edition Delayed by Server Issues

That should be how Sony advertise it now. DriveClub "It's getting better". LOL.

Well, realistically, at this point, that's about all any of us can hope for.

I think in a few months when all the missing features are patched in, weather added, more tour events, cars, and servers sorted out, it's going to be a completely different game.

For those who actually wait through all of this.

Game sure has had a doozy of a history and launch.

edit-
"The best first-party racing game currently available for PS4."

Hah! Also, that!

They haven't been able to resolve their server issues. I am quite interested in this from a software architecture perspective. I would have initial assumed they didn't have enough servers up, but you figure they would have been able to resolve that issue within 24 hours. This must be a fundamental issue with the way the online component has been designed, or a particular aspect of it, which is only showing its ugly head in production.

They mentioned in a tweet last week that it wasn't a "numbers" issue, so I don't think throwing servers at it was ever the solution. It does indeed appear to be a software issue.

No, he didn't. Just said it was simply due to a coding bug. I'll see if I can't dig it up.

bugs... probably had to rewrite solid amount of code for server component.

Keep in mind that team that does online code has nothing to do with team that does DLC or weather/photomode... different people/teams from inside the studio.

I got a review copy, reviewed DriveClub and liked it that much that I then bought the PS Plus Upgrade to support the studio. I think the game is amazing. All these self entitled people who never even bought the game and are still moaning should shut up imo. There is still plenty of value for money in PS Plus with or without the DriveClub PS Plus Edition.

If you want the game that bad you'll buy it, because even without the servers it's awesome.

You should probably stop reviewing games; you clearly have trouble remaining objective.

My augments were completely valid. Your cynicism against Sony is through the roof. What you should have done was show your contempt and high horse standards to Microsoft which disrespectfully disregards their customer's needs. You have yet to complain about that, so don't tell I'm "hand waving" when you try to put on your internet "too cool for school, I'm entitled" façade.
I don't even know what the big deal is, maybe it's principle but hasn't the game scored poorly? Why does anyone want a mediocre game so badly.

I'm no fanboy but Microsoft is doing a hell of a lot more than Sony is right now I can tell you that. At least they released a racing game that is not only outstanding but actually works and it was released ON TIME.

It's well known I don't like the company. But I don't try to crap on it every chance I get as some sort of hidden agenda. This thread is about the DRIVECLUB delay and somehow people made it into PSN, so.

Wasn't the PSN subscription marketed with DriveClub??? So I can see how it would relate.

of course it was, but you are responding to someone who probably is in elementary school, so dont hold your breath for a (proper) answer. not all people are like that though ;)

here, pixelbox, this video I found for you. maybe you can learn something..

I wonder how Rushy feels right now about that time when Grid Autorsport was released and he tweeted essentially about the game being bad.

How ironic.

Probably indifferent since as has been said many times before in this thread, that tweet had nothing to do with the quality of the game but was talking about how the wheel was incompatible.

"Whatever you want from a driving game, DRIVECLUB has you covered."

That's an outdated sales pitch :/

Probably indifferent since as has been said many times before in this thread, that tweet had nothing to do with the quality of the game but was talking about how the wheel was incompatible.

The same wheel isn't compatible with Driveclub. Either interpretation isn't very flattering.

Any chance we get this with the next weekly update?

My opinion is not this week, its just not stable enough yet. The last thing they / you want is to throw gas on the fire by releasing it and it further burdening the servers.

Maybe tonight it all works and it very well may, and they release this week, bit i suspect next week is realistic

I'm a genius at this.

Hmm link?

Considering what he said in the Grid:A OT right after tweeting, there never was anything that pointed to wheel issues.

There's the possibility that corporate politics or just policy changes means that Driveclub was kind of screwed there and thus out of his hands, but being last gen Grid shouldn't have had the same issues. Though if it IS partially corporate I can see Logitech being uncooperative for new game support in general.

Anyways I guess this sums up my feelings currently.

But they never said that it would be available the same day on October 7th. The only thing they did that was close to that was include it in the PS blog post the week before. Its not like this was something they were promising left and right for October 7th.

Sure they were. As I said in post # 1683 in this thread, they did state it would be out on October 7. They were still saying this as recently as October 1, in the following PlayStation.Blog post:

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2014/10/01/preview-octobers-free-game-lineup/

Let me quote the blog post (bolded portions for emphasis):

For the past two months, PlayStation Plus members have received a couple games free the day they hit the PlayStation Store, and this time we’re besting ourselves by offering three! Yep, this month Dust: An Elysian Tail (PS4), Spelunky (PS4) and Pix the Cat (PS Vita) will debut on the Store as well as in PlayStation Plus. On top of that, there’s a special bonus this month – members get DriveClub PlayStation Plus Edition (if you want to upgrade to the regular retail version you can for $49.99), which gives them access to 11 tracks, 10 cars and all the game modes. Finally, members will receive the critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham Asylum as well as Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara and Rainbow Moon.

PS4 owners can check out the Metroidvania-inspired Dust: An Elysian Tail, as well as the hit platformer Spelunky — which also entitles you to the PS3 and PS Vita versions. On PS3, our members can see where the Arkham franchise started with Batman: Arkham Asylum, as well as enjoy a bundle of classic arcade Dungeons & Dragons games with Chronicles of Mystara. For your PS Vita, we’ve got a new addictive arcade game for you in the same vein as Snake and Pac-Man called Pix the Cat and a beautiful, epic strategy RPG Rainbow Moon.

All of these games will be free for Plus members starting October 7th. Watch the video below to see these titles in action.

Unfortunately, the video embedded in the blog post has been made "private", so it can no longer be viewed...but I recall it had a montage of all seven (not six--seven) of the games they were offering. Driveclub was the first game shown in the video.

This situation is really sad, but I guess this is what happens when the studio is too busy playing with snow, instead of fixing the issues at hand.

No man, that update to make the tunnel look incrementally better Rushy was specifically touting was way more important than the networking framework.

...and yes, that was uncharacteristically salty for me. I'm just annoyed at the situation.

It's frustrating and it's certainly not the start we were going for! We want everyone to enjoy DRIVECLUB and get the PS Plus Edition out so that more players can join in and get online too, so we'll let you know as soon as we have more info.

Good, good.

It seems like they're about to board a plane, and finally come back to civilisation, after spending so many days skiing.

This is some devious shit, I'm 100% convinced this is to force people to buy the full game.

4 of my buddies ended up buying the full fucking game despite saying a month ago that
the PS+ version would suffice their racing needs.

This is evil yo :/

So Sony's master plan is to destroy the reputation of a studio, fuck up the launch of an exclusive racing game (for people who also bought it), make a promise to subscribers they will get a version at launch and then break that promise all in an attempt to garner more sales for said game?

Sounds like an amazing plan.

Wish they'd just release it for the single player part. That might convince me to buy the full game instead of rely on just the mostly negative reviews.

I don't understand this post. Are you implying they knew this would happen and decided to work on the weather instead of fixing server issues they knew they were going to have at launch?

Where did he say that? And why has no one else brought up any issue using a G27 on the ps3 version?

And this

Good question, seems to have become a bit of a forum myth that it's incompatible, I've seen it so much in this thread I started to believe it. Might be just poor, but I don't know.

I tried to see if he had spoken about it since but can't find anything other than the grid autosport thread.

I did find this though

Absolutely unbelievable. Or at least it would have been from anyone else.

Yes but they probably don't want the PS+ version to be gimped so people can experience the real game and decide that they want to buy it instead of being unimpressed by the PS+ edition and deciding not to bother when they might like it with all the features.

Yeah what a great plan. Oh wait it's not working for the people that bought it....

You must be Pachters Son.
