Sony says it will continue to adjust PS Plus pricing as more players choose higher tiers

What does the essential tier even do? Just online play? cloud saves?
Like H Hanzaki mentioned i mostly use it for psn sales. I don't play on PC at all and buy all physical Nintendo stuff.

Having ps premium wouldn't be worth it for me. It would add way too many options plus lots of the games I play aren't on the service

Left mine expire as well.
Migrating to Steam as we speak.
Same thing I did. Ps+ is what drove me away. I was there since day 1 and after the last increase I was out. I just couldn't justify $250 a year for it. The "free" games were nice and let me try new stuff but between epic and prime free games, I dont need them anymore.

For me disabling the option to copy local saves for PS5 games shows just how greedy Sony is. It's supposed to be a security feature, yet you can still encrypt save files or plug in a usb drive to your console and that's not a problem. But who knows, maybe copying screenshots & clips will end up behind a paywall when PS6 arrives.

Sony being more and more greedy made my decision to drop PS+ a lot easier.
Plus these assholes are getting rid of ps stars. I don't care about having avatars but when that news dropped I had $50 in credit from buying games. Just another way to get more money out of us.

Fun fact, I let my PS Plus subscription expire back in December.

Haven't missed it one iota. Gamepass expired last month. Haven't missed it either.

As somebody who doesn't play that many games/year, only reason to have PS+ is for multiplayer. Unfortunately that by itself is 60% of the cost.

Still have Game Pass Ultimate, but the price shot up on that and even with cheap keys from CDKeys/etc., it's a ripoff.

I see more people migrating to PC in the future. Especially when consoles become digital only.

People love to waste money.
Is it really wasted if I get to access my games saves from two different PS5's?

Shoot-out to all to idiot bootlickers who said this was a one time thing and it wast justifiable because of the better "Quality" they would provide
The Ponies always have an excuse to get their cheeks clapped. It's different when Sony does it though. Its aways in their best interest. Lol. Keep buying it up though on these consoles, they are never going to change when you keep goving them miney and defending them.

I guess some people would rather pay for a sub than buy games, but if you already own a bunch of them and have a backlog, it makes no sense to have it.

Mark my words, they will set PSN store game prices and never lower them again like Nintendo since there's no competition for Sony.
Since I'm no longer subscribed to PS Plus I found time to play games I actually own and not random rented shit which more often misses than it hits.
Subscription model does not work with game services, at least give shit for free like Epic and let me keep it forever. Wait, I can't since I still need PS Plus.
Yea I agree I stopped my sub. If I do the math though it is worth it because it does have like 4 guaranteed games I want to play. I don't know though I just don't like to feel like I'm on a timer. I'll play the man who erased his name when I want to not be forced to hurry and play it before it leaves.

I don't really care because gaming is very cheap to me compared to my other hobbies but still sucks to see everything rising in price.

i happily downgraded from Premium to Extra and never going back, what a waste of money (extra still a ripoff but not that much, Premium goes too far for what is offers)

First of all, we don't know the total PS+ subscriber count anymore. They stopped reporting it in 2023, which does not inspire confidence in growth. This was after the first major price hike. The percentage of Essential subscribers shrank, some may have cancelled their subs and others may have moved up a tier. Considering how Sony has been offering discounts to Premium far in excess of the discounts for Plus and Essential I am not surprised to see a small percentage change like this.

Could be very misleading, we are going to see the true story evolve over the next year or two. I hope they have better internal models because if they are relying on this surface level analysis (probably just to woo the investors) it's going to be bad.

When Sony announced the new tiers, I had 10+ years of PS+ stacked thanks to early stackable one month giveaways, free years for credit card sign-ups and $25-30 yearly memberships via Black Friday deals/CDKeys deals. Sony capped the upgrade cost to the highest tier at $149.99 which I thought was a deal. With all due respect to Animal Well, I'm not sure that was such a deal. Gamepass is a much better offering, but it's hard to demand Sony follow suit when Gamepass will be the death of the Xbox console brand.

Good make it $100 a month just to even play Fortnite online or CoD.

Get rid of the poors.

I think I already said this but yeah mine expired and I don't care, what's worse is it took me 3 days to notice ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Plot twist: They will lower the price!
But to be serious, they should make cloud saves free or at least add a 19,99 €/year tier for it.

if you were gonna skip a playstation console iteration, the ps5 was definitely the one to skip, imo...
I skipped PS3 and PS4 and got back with the PS5. Had a blast with all the games I had missed, but the PS5 gen itself has been abysmal. There's no way I'll invest in another one before I'm sure it'll have yet again plenty of games I want. So if this trajectory continues I might invest in a PS8 when time comes. Until then I'll keep my PS5 and be more focused on Nintendo. It's a bit bizarre with the modern long development times.

Something about the total number of subscribers?
Assuming more and more Essential users cancel their subscriptions because they no longer want to bear this price increase for basic features, the percentage of Premium users would automatically rise.
Without looking at the overall numbers, such presented results are useless and merely suggest to users that 'buying the most expensive product is the best choice because more and more people are doing it' - according to Sony.

Edit :

This thread alone:

Haven't missed it one iota. Gamepass expired last month. Haven't missed it either.

Left mine expire as well.

Cancelled my entire subscription renewal the day after increase. Don't play online, physical backlog is too big and premium games library is abysmal.

Fuck them

Eh, I'll be letting mine lapse when it runs out early next year. Haven't played an online game in ages and can't remember the last time I played one of the free games 🤷

No value in it anymore for me at least.

Let mine expire last year and haven't looked back. Waste of money as I'm barely using my PS5 at this point. I'm thinking I sell/trade it in.

As i did, best decision i ever made ! Always some discount on games and you can buy keys from multiple sites. And did i mention free cloud saves and online ? :D

My sub expired a couple of months after the price hike and I haven't bought a game either for my PS5 since or even played it much since. The pS6 will need some truly remarkable true exclusives to get me to go back at this point.

My basic bitch PS+ expired like two months after they originally increased the price, and i've never re-sub'ed. Now that some time went by, i am having a hard time believing how retarded it is to pay to play online in 2025. Like what? Never ever again.

Mine expired a few months ago and I have no plans to renew it unless the value is there or there's some must play multiplayer game. But now whatever that game is would have to be worth the price of the game and the cost of a PS+ sub and those games are going to be very few and far between.

Same thing I did. Ps+ is what drove me away. I was there since day 1 and after the last increase I was out. I just couldn't justify $250 a year for it. The "free" games were nice and let me try new stuff but between epic and prime free games, I dont need them anymore.

My PS Plus expire yesterday too. I hope I won't missed it like you too

Same for me, I was part of PSPlus for years, but they simply overdid it and as a result lost many formerly loyal customers.

Only feature I miss from PS+ are the cloud saves. some things in games I do not want to redo should I lose that data.

You can back it up on any usb stick or external HDD/SSD

Who the hell is subscribing to the higher tiers? They're garbage.
I do. But I subscribe essential, and 2 months before it expires I upgrade to premium for a fraction of the price.
The objective here is to play some games for no cost.
Ratchet a rift in time, death stranding, returnal, demon souls, bloodborne, little nighmares 2 and others. I played all of those with this upgrade.

As I've downsized to one console i won't be renewing this year so they can do what they want. I was only paying for cloud saves

They'll be just fine without me.

They offer bigger discounts on the higher tiers when there's sales. I just resubbed during the days of play and the extra and premium tiers cost almost the same so yeah I went premium cause why not get the extra perks for almost the same price.

Tempted to sell my PS5 pro at this point the only hope is GTA 6, recently upgraded PC and seeing games half price on there and cloud saves etc.

My 400 hour elden ring save got overwritten because my console saved overwrote my cloud one.

Surprised the bootlickers still defending Sony

I think this is also one of the reasons why i dont play Playstation anymore. It just sucks to play games you need to pay a sub, also service, UI ect are extremely bad and confusing. I played playstation for like years since i was a kid, but now i just got to play only single player games like ex33 or FF, DS2 ect. As for multiplayer the pc just hits better to call your friends, getting in touch with them, text them these things cant be done right with playstation.

I'm surprised more people aren't up in arms that you can't backup your saves to usb, only PS+ can you backup your saves. Unless you do a full system backup. Really surprised no one has ever talked about this. Whereas on PS4 and PS3 it was literally simple to copy to a USB

Oh, it has been and still is talked about a lot - if you're asking the right people. What surprises me is how few people even know about this option and just assume cloud saves are the only way to back up their data.
I mean, is Sony a company that wants to make it as difficult and inconvenient as possible for customers to operate outside of their pay-for-services? Definitely. That and much more is something I hold against Sony.
Still, I'm glad we at least have some way to back up our data offline. On the PS4, of course, it was a dream in that regard..

I'm thankful none of my friends really bother with online MP anymore because it means I have zero reason to have a console in addition to PC.

It's different strokes for different folks, but I'm happy to have found my preference without being charged for things like cloud saves. On basic principle I think that's a shitty thing to hold back in this day and age.
