PS4 System Software Preview – USB Music Player, New Home Screen Colors, More

I really hope that USB Music player thing doesnt have any sort of exploits or exploitable holes. Sounds like a trojan horse for exploits. Hope I am dead wrong.

They probably learned a lot from the PS3 fiasco so I think it's unlikely, unless somebody can exploit that USB malware thing.

So odd. I'm assuming it's a licensing thing to get around a small fee.
I can't imagine any kind of license fees for audio CDs. The patents are long expired, and the only thing they'd have to pay for is the logo, which is not required afaik. According to Wikipedia, the license fee is $100. Pretty sure that covers the company, it's more of a description of the standard (it's the red book of the standard name). And I'm reasonably sure that a CD laser is not needed to read pressed audio CDs. CD-Rs do require the correct laser.

I never tried but there is things like this.

.

Where can I get one of these?

Remote Play works on Vita, PSTV and Z3, Z3c, Z3C tablet.... so it works with 2 phones, tablet, TV streamer as well as Vita.

Those are all additional Sony hardware though. It's not something that the majority of PS4 owners can use because it requires you to purchase other (not exactly cheap) Sony equipment to make use of it. I guess the comparison could be made that MS could do the same for something like the Surface (which I actually put in the list for the post you initially quoted), but it's still something that affect the console and OS indirectly, and isn't factored into the cost of the console itself.

I already acknowledged share play is... but you're missing the point that I've been making as to why people aren't demanding that MS match each Sony feature. The lack of these features like remote play, or shareplay isn't a problem, they're nice to have, but nobody is going to complain about their absence. Basic shit like pausing downloads and friend notifications are things people will complain about not being there, because they're expected to be. These are things people will complain about.. and so they are. You're arguing completely out of context to my posts, to the point why I'm not sure why you're quoting me.

I wouldn't complain if a new car I buy doesn't come with TV's and PS4's built into to seat, because as great as that is, I don't feel that it's something a car should simply be expected to have. If I buy a car with no air-conditioning though? Different matter entirely.

USB music player.... Why can't we save music to the hard drive or better yet stream music from third parties like Pandora, Lastfm and so on... I like my PS4 but its sad that my PS3 has better media capabilities.

Only being able to play MP3's off a USB is a joke tbh, honestly at this point I'm starting to feel it's a conspiracy theory to get people to keep their PS3's or something, how on earth have we lost soo many features compared to last gen's system? And where is the suspend/resume feature?

It's ridiculous that Sony haven't been able to implement the suspend/resume function they revealed in February 2013... Shouldn't that feature be number one on their To Do list?

So is not including folders or any way to customize your games library a "design choice"? Because I refuse to believe it's that hard to implement a folder or customizable organization system (similar to Steam).

They actually already have folders, for the TV apps. So the functionality is in place. They just need to let us create our own. But now that they're doing this thing with the Library instead I guess maybe folders aren't happening.

yes it does... Sony's system lets you play game much sooner - same goes for installing games as well, it is basically the same system.

The difference is that the XBO forces you to download any updates before you can start playing, while the PS4 will let you start as soon as enough data has been installed from the disc. Then it will keep downloading the updates, and when they're done you have to restart the game to apply them.

Pretty ridiculous this update wasnt available at launch. And even more ridiculous that it's taken a year for them to add it.

I pretty much agree. A lot of this is basic barebones stuff so color me unimpressed. I really like my PS4 as a gaming machine and will like to keep it, but things like this, constant, quality updates is something that should be a priority. The PS4 is not the only console out there. It has a formidable competitor who is eager to make inroads and have the money to do so. I think Sony should have been on the offense with something like this. Sony walked right into the "Soony" meme and frankly I think it's well deserved. Hopefully after 2.0 we can see some more substantial updates to the system.

I guess it's awesome that software updates now have code names?

This isn't version 2.00, it's Masamune motherfucker!!

I think this is something that everyone has glossed over. I could be wrong but is this the first time that a codename has been given for a firmware update? The name itself along with it being listed 4 times in the blog post makes it stand out to me. Why make the codename known? Well, a lot of people would most likely know Masamune from the Final Fantasy series, FFVII in particular. The codename might point to PS1 emulation support, or I could be looking to much into a simple codename.

Otherwise I'm happy with the way 2.0 is shaping up, although I still can't wait for DLNA.

If you're Japanese you're probably thinking of the actual swordsmith Masamune.

But as far as jRPGs go, it's far more integral to the Chrono games than to FFVII.

You should contact sony and have them remove more features so you can rest better at night!

Lol everytime I read these pathetic posts that worries for welfare of the fragile big corporations.

I want full media playback and saving files to harddrive Sony. All music files and all video files including MKV should be supported like X1 is doing, as well as being able to save all my pictures, music, movies and songs straight to the harddrive, where i can have specific folders for them, and use my pics for wallpapers.

I expect better functionality than PS3. But i'd be satisfied with atleast parity with PS3 on media features.

Still, Chrono Cross is a PS1 game.

:)

I'd love it if they did add PS1 support. I guess it will happen eventually.... one little emulator and they can sell a whole bunch of content that's already on the store.

They better let me play my discs, too.

Media playback, DLNA support, Plex app. I'm honestly shocked it took almost a year to get the XB1 to where it is now, media playback wise. It's even more shocking that the PS4 is nowhere near that level. I was fully expecting both platforms to be roughly comparable to where the PS3 was in media playback terms on launch.

It makes me wonder why it has taken this long. Is the software difficult to update and make changes to or is there something else at play here?

Either their software team is slow and incompetent, or maybe this is their way of "encouraging" you to buy movies and music from their own services on the PS4.
Still, their PSN community rep did also admit he wants DLNA soon.
