Legend of Korra |OT| Bending the Rules of Nature

Not a huge fan of Korra (and I am bewildered there are people who prefer Korra to Bayonetta, one is literally a vacuum of personality where good characters lose their good features the moment they talk to her) but waiting for gameplay impressions. So it's essentially MGR but bending? Still, I heard the game is more lenient.

This game's hard mode is about as difficult as MGR's hard, which is to say not very. The mechanics are solid but it's littered with an annoying minigame and the presentation is very low quality and the story is basically nonexistant. The way you charge moves is somewhat similar to playing as Sam in MGR, but it doesn't have the depth or variety of that game. It's only really worth it if you can enjoy a game for its mechanics alone and look past the presentation.

Just as a comparison, Sam's DLC in MGR is way better than this entire game.

Haven't gotten the game yet so I am basing it on views. So it isn't? Still, why are the cues a bit too long?

I think I'll get this 5 bucks in Steam. It already being Korra still makes me angry (should've been an Aang game).

MGR is no joke. It's a pure Platinum games, despite the Metal Gear ties.

What would be cool, is if it proved to be successful to make another that included many different avatars that we havent seen yet. But I doubt it'll happen especially with Nintendo sending the newest season out to die.

yeah damn you nintendo

Uhm what?

Hmm... haven't played Sam DLC yet actually. Maybe I should do that first.

...I have played and finished MGR and Bladewolf DLC :P

Steam won't let me pre-order this, so I'm waiting lol

Rating a game based on price is dumb, sorry. That said, it sounds like the most negative reviews may not have really understood the game. Unfortunately with a "Normal" (Read: actually easy) default difficulty, it may not actually matter. I'm going into this with lowered expectations (even though it has the same director, IIRC, I don't think it will be as good as Anarchy Reigns, let alone Bayonetta).

Now I'm not as conflicted that I spent my Korra money on Miku instead. I'll just hold off for now and buy it during the inevitable Season 4 finale Korra sale. Not that I'm not in the market for a good action game, I'm just more in the market for an amazing action game ala Bayo and/or Bloodborne.

After first look at the settings:
It's terrible.

2 quality options: normal and smooth.

No 1920x1200 resolution.

I checked the game files and its savedata, haven't found any .inis to edit.

It's just... so damn sad.

Oh, and to add insult to injury, it's one of those games that start in windowed mode with low resolution and change the resolution each time you select new value in the menu, instead of letting you selected the desired one and and then applying it.

Just bought this blind on Steam a few minutes ago, won't be able to play until I get home. I expected a pretty barebones port, sounds like that's what I'm getting.

Can you change keybinds?

I have my issues with the game (as I've said in the Impressions thread and the official Book 4 Korra thread). But I still enjoyed it for what it is. I think, I would probably give it a 6 myself (keeping in mind it's a budget title).

Bayo 2 is an outlier in that it's a platinum action game that holds your hand through a lot of the basics. From what I've seen Korra doesn't painstakingly tutorialize every minor element of the combat system and requires a bit of experimentation on the part of the player. It's a lot closer to Rising, W101, or God Hand in that sense.

I mean, it's not like what I'm claiming is supposition. The IGN and Gamespot reviews both are full of factual inaccuracies about the combat system because these guys are shit and can't be bothered to learn to play.

Neither Rising nor Wondeful 101 got reviews this poor though from major outlets, and as we all know W101's learning curve is notorious.

Ok, straight away the settings are annoying me. You have to go through each and every resolution option to get to 1080.

God Hand did. And it also shares a major flaw that also affects this game: it's ugly as fuck and noticably on a budget. Poor presentation + difficulty = bad reviews.

MGR is only as hard as you make it. If you try to cheese your way through, it's not going to be easy; learning the mechanics is the only way. All the bosses test your mettle, and the last boss is the ultimate final exam.

In what reality is that an inevitability?

Not when you have a controller plugged in. Only option in the Controller submenu is the vibration toggle. If, you know, you would like to check bindings for the controller or even change them... well, you can't.

If you unplug the controller, can you change keyboard bindings? I have a friend who only plays games with a mouse and keyboard and she's wanting to know before she puts down money.

Does anyone actually know what the graphics option does? I'm assuming smooth adds some AA or something but I really don't know.

Unfortunately, no. Even with the controller unplugged I only see the option for vibrations. And no mouse contorl in menus, of course.
