Legend of Korra |OT| Bending the Rules of Nature

Thanks for the OT Supes. Too busy with TEW today, will start Korra first thing tomorrow, it's already installed. Hope combat is satisfying.

This is probably a silly question, but how are the keyboard and mouse controls? I don't have a controller compatible with my PC, but I seem to remember keyboard controls not being recommended for Revengeance. If it's not worth it, I'll go PS3.

Not sure, but these type of games tend to usually not do that well with KB/M, so having a controller would be probably be nicer. Maybe it not that bad through.

Okay, level with me GAF. I love most of Platinum's output (not Madworld too much), is this game good for a Platinum fan or does it disappoint?

I probably won't get it till later anyway because of Bayonetta 2.

Just beat Chapter 4, I think like others have said its a mixed back, core of the game is fantastic and borrows so much from MGR just some weird things like the parry timing can sometimes be like 1sec and others .1sec and unfun enemies.

Kinda wish they made this game without the elements and as a straight beat em up,
as chapter 2 was a ton of fun just parrying everyone without the stupid electric attacks, I think I will just be replaying this chapter over and over later on

*edit: playing on PC

It's not like their other titles. It's a budget game. I think, the gameplay is awesome like most Platinum games. I personally hate how they implemented the gameplay progression. But once you get all your powers and leveled up, I think it's a really fun/challenging game (what Platinum does best).

So...if you go in with your expectations set right (that it is a budget title, so it won't be as epic, or fleshed out with regards to the level design or the world), and if you can get past ho they went about progressing the gameplay (in order to really enjoy this, you need to play through the game twice, because you don't get all your powers + leveled up until the game is basically over)...I would say it's worth $15. I kind of found the game to be frustrating at first, because the combat felt very gimped to me. The lack of enemy variety, and how unbalanced they are (compared to you). But once you get your bending powers, it starts to become a real blast.

I'd give this game a solid 7.5 or 8 out of ten. I think for a licensed, Activision, Nickelodeon, low-budget, $15, downloadable game for a series that's smack in the middle of production and airing-while Platinum was in the middle of making Bayo 2 and Scalebound in addition to this-this is about the best we could get.

Not to say that the game shouldn't be criticized or that you're wrong if you're not enjoying it-criticism is ALWAYS valid-but I feel it's important to take those things into consideration. This game seems more to me like a nice bonus if you've been watching characters kick ass on the show and go "I want to DO THAT!"

With all the stipulations I just mentioned developing anything for this series at all is probably a huge clusterfuck and when I think about the fact that at the end of the day we got a Platinum-developed Korra game, I have a hard time being unhappy with that. Feels kind of lucky tbh.

I will absolutely agree that the barebones story, empty and lifeless world, and (lack of) characters are a huge bummer and totally not true to the show, but there was no way in hell that stuff was going to make it in when this takes place between seasons and didn't get mentioned in the actual cartoon. They probably wanted to focus on making sure the series itself was cohesive and didn't really have time for this game.

Thank you. I'll just get Bayonetta 2 and wait then.

Ok so I bought this for PS4 and I get to the title screen which says 'Press any button', and none of the buttons work except for home and share. I've only had the console a few weeks so I'm still fumbling my way around it.

Suggestions?

Okay nm, I bought it from the US store to play on my UK PS4, but the console tells me I'm not allowed to play it on my UK account, so I switch to the US one and the game boots but the buttons don't work. So while in game I switch back to my UK account and the buttons magically work.

Is it supposed to be like this? I hope it only does it with this game since I'll want to be buying things from the US and JP store in the years to come.

I hate sounding negative. I'm a massive Avatar fan. And I love Platinum too. I do think, personally the game is worth the $15. It's a really good downloadble title. And given the budget, I don't think it's bad at all. BUT, if you aren't a big fan of Avatar, and you want a fully fleshed out high quality title from Platinum (like a AAA title), then it might not be for you.

I'm also getting Bayonetta 2 this Friday. I'm so excited.

Made some custom Steam grid Icons because the default one looks kinda squished.

For the title the X button worked for me, but during cutscenes I used the options button. Maybe if it doesn't work you can try reinstalling it?

Sounds exactly like a post on the PG forum about the license being applied improperly between accounts:

PROBLEM:
Title Screen is unresponsive to Player Controller Input.

Repro Steps:
Requirements: One PS4 System, One Profile with PS Plus (User A) that has the PS4 system set as primary and automatically logged in, One Profile on the same PS4 System without PS Plus and is not set as a primary user on the system (User B).

1) Have User B Preorder "The Legend of Korra" for PS4 through PSN on the Web. (Specifically a Desktop Computer's Web Browser)
2) Turn on the PS4.
3) Switch to User B.
4) Go on PSN Store and Download "The Legend of Korra".
5) Once installed, start the game.
6) Once in the Title Screen, attempt proceed into the Main Menu.

Result:
Input is ignored except for the PS Button.

Expected:
The Game to react to Input.

Notes:
Switching to User A had me able to progress past the title screen, which has me concerned that the game is incorrectly licensed to the wrong player. Additionally, I set User B as the profile that automatically logs in when the PS4 is turned on, which actually resolved the issue as well as locking User A from starting the game.

This game doesn't deserve all the shit it's getting.

Sure, it's short. Yes, it's a button mashing fest. And yes, they do make the fatal mistake of
taking away your fucking bending right from the getgo and make you unlock each power one by one.

The game has its faults. But for $15, it's a lot of fun. I'm actually really enjoying pro-bending, and in the later levels, the game gets somewhat challenging. But the animations are smooth and clean, and the combo making / fast paced ass kicking nature of the gameplay is enjoyable.

I'd give it a 7/10. Might have even gone higher if they had included book four short hair Korra as an unlockable costume.

omg, Airbending is so amazingly OP. Plus the breakdancing and Tatsumaki moves filling the screen with tornadoes. The mechs die so fast now with those + counters

Edit: Ha, even the Naga Run sections are better with Airbending.

In what reality is that an inevitability?
Barring Korra getting uber cancelled and pulled off its online airing schedule, when the season ends all the episodes will go on sale, again. Only this time, instead of the game launching, it will go on sale as well. Most shows put their merchandise on sale at either/both the beginning and end of the season. Ergo, using precedent, the sale is inevitable. It helps that the game will be a few months old by the time that happens too.

I don't think that's a mistake at all. It helps introduce you to the mechanics on your first playthrough instead of dumping everything on you at once. It's obvious the game is meant to be replayed and on repeat playthroughs you will have all the stuff unlocked anyway.

Is anybody else finding the game surprisingly difficult? I mean, I wasn't expecting a cakewalk considering its Platinum, but I've actually died more often here than I did in my first run of Metal Gear Rising.

Who are they trying to shit about that being Jinora's voice, lmao.

Sounds like her in chapter 3.

I've fucked up the Naga section or then I am willing to admit. Trying to grab all the chi wasn't a smart idea.

Want to play this game but I've never seen the show lol, does the game spoil any of the show as im still interested in wacthing it at some stage

I finished chapter 4 and I'm having lots of fun with it.

Can someone explain the chi bar mechanics? I understand that it ties to move charging but I still don't get why it's there.

Also, are there seriously no subtitles in this game? ;_;

Keeping your Chi bar charged makes all your moves stronger, especially subsequent charged moves. It gets really ridiculous with the Air combos.

I see, thanks.

There's an item in the shop that halves your health, but keeps your chi full at all times. Sounds crazy. The game even recommends it for extreme.

Might be late/old but for those that need Korras Room codes

The spirt outfit is Up,Up,Down,Down,Square
The item shop code for the "Shadow Fist" is Right,Right,Left,Square. That needs to be entered at the item shop

Never watched the show but I'm having a really good time. Combat is fast and responsive, love the cel shading and it runs great on my old ass PC.

Anyone else's back button not working during the stage select screen? I have to use "2" on my keyboard to access Korra's room. First game I've encountered this problem.

Amusingly I think the parry window is far, far more forgiving than Bayonetta or MGR.

It is.

I think its pretty small

Either the enemy is about to attack when he glows red or attacks immediately like a second later so its hard to gauge when to parry. Blocking is easy since you can just spam the block botton once the glow red.

The window is huge, it's the inconsistency with the grunts that can screw you up. Sometimes they like to throw out the move immediately and other times they take their time to charge their attack. The red color is just there as a warning like "Hey, I'm about to attack, watch closely."

Yeah, the earth bender enemies are super hard to counter since their attacks take so long to come out.

I think it's not so much that it's difficult as much as it is that it's very casual about dying.

The game will throw a lot of things at you where you'll think "Wait, how was I supposed to see that coming?" Some people are going to think, okay, fuck this, that's bad game design. Other people will go, okay, I know what that is and I know what combo does the best damage against him, I am going to do better this time.

The first mech enemy took me FOREVER. Every subsequent one, and subsequent death, made it take less and less and less time until I was basically styling on them, mostly because I got better.
