Legend of Korra |OT| Bending the Rules of Nature

Just finished it. Really fun. The first playthrough was kinda slow as you have to unlock and build up each of the elements but once you get that it gets really fun. Can't wait to go back for additional playthroughs.

DO any of you know the secret codes to unlock costumes?

Up, up, down, down, light attack.

Someone on this thread deserves the credit.

How did you feel about Senator Armstrong from MGR? Not to say that it's quite there in terms of epicness, but it's clearly what they were going for.

You just sold me on the game. That was one of the most memorable gaming experiences of last gen.

Now I need to get $15 somehow =(.

I haven't watched the show except for a few episodes of the first season, but I got this because I'm always down for a Platinum game.

I'm not really digging it so far, and it barely feels like a Platinum game to me. I think it looks awful, and the combat system feels really buttonmashy. The music gets nauseating after a while, and it's missing all of the charm and style that makes Platinum games so appealing. I had a grin on my face throughout all of MGR and Bayonetta, but I'm just bored playing this. I think having to make everything fit to the license really neutered their ability to make the kind of game they're famous for. This all feels so by-the-numbers to me.

So I've just finished Chapter 3 and I'm liking it so far. It's not on the level of Something like Bayonetta or MGR (at least not yet given my limited skills) but I'm enjoying it. Took me a bit to get used to the charge attacks and how it appears to power up you moves for a short time afterwards.
You can tell the animated cutscenes were animated by a different studio. It's like, it's Korra but something is off about it. Not a bad thing or a negative just you can tell the differences from the actual show and it was something I noticed.

Playing on Normal and it definitely seems like a Platinum "normal" level in that it's harder than what most games would call Normal.

Graphics wise (PC) I'm playing at 1080p and not noticed a difference from the "Smooth" and "Normal" graphics options. I have set AF to 16x and FXAA and another type of CSAA set to 16x in the Nvidia. No idea if this is having an effect or not as I've not tried the game with out that stuff but the game is still 60fps and looks sharp.

If you had to pick between this game and inFamous First Light, which would you pick?

I'm in this dilemma now. I want both but can only get one. Both have platinum trophies, both are the same price, both are part of series I love. I'm literally about to flip a coin.

I may be dumb for asking but I'm gonna ask anyway. For Xbone, is this unlocking at 8pm eastern time tonight or is that 8pm tomorrow? The wording on the page says "anticipated to be released 10/21" But the other thing, after you preorder says available 10/22. And then in that same paragraph it says "It'll be available at blah blah time on the day of release"....please tell me I'm not the only one confused.

Anyone in the thread figure out what the point of perfect charging is? As far as I can tell it's got the same effect as the normal full charge. Then again, I only just got earthbending back, so maybe there are more mechanics I'm not aware of...

I think Infamous First Light is a better game overall. They are very different games though.

Man, I'm really upset with the
Spirit Korra
costume, I saw the silhouette and got juiced to play as Korra with her hair down, but it's just this eyesore.

Was there a trick to getting the first code or did whoever found it just roll their face on the controller till it worked?

First code was apparently given out during ComicCon, haven't been able to find it yet. All the codes are shareable so someone just needs to post it.

I'd give the game a solid 7.5/10 so far

Not as good as bayonetta or w101 or vanquish but for a budget licensed game it's fun and well polished.

I'm also using the whole 1-10 scale, so a 7.5 is pretty high to me.

Apparently the code is:
Up, Up, Down, Down, Square for the Spirit outfit

Is this game out on 360 yet? It's 4pm EST here....

Meh, I'll check the PSN store and buy it there if its up. Ridiculous that I can't find it anywhere on the 360 store.

EDIT: Lol first thing I see on the PSN store is a whole section dedicated to korra. Damn, I could have been playing this by now :(

Doesn't want to work for me though.

Yeah the one I am talking about is supposedly the
chi blocker
one. I did find a code for a item in the shop

right right left left light attack

Item seems like a game breaker though: Adds extra hits to your attacks, doing more damage. And it looks cool too!

360 releases on the 22nd for whatever reason. PSN and Steam are today.

doesn't the XBL version come out tomorrow?

Yep, he complains about enemies not having resistances or vulnerabilities, which was one of the worst parts of DmC, and basically goes against the combat systems in PG games.

Not just that, but then he also suggests that there's no reason to really switch elements, but then proceeds to explain how each element does something different. :-|

IGN's review really had a "I suck at this game, therefore I think the game sucks!" feel to it. Note that in the Destructoid review, the reviewer seemed to be a Platinum Games fan and gave it a more favorable review...even suggesting that normal mode is too easy.

I played through the first four chapters and am having lots of fun. The combat is challenging but not too hard on normal difficulty, and it's nice that the graphics and art style match the show.

Sure this game would benefit from a AAA-size cash infusion but that's not the scope of the game. I'm having fun and it doesn't feel unfaithful to the show, that's about all I expected from the game.

So

The combat is good enough, but the room for countering is pretty ridiculous on normal. It feels very easy for a Platinum title to me so far. Of course I have no idea what is going on in terms of story, and the scenery is pretty generic and etc. The running section on the polar bear felt very out of place and a bit ridiculous.

But all in all I still feel it's worth a few quids and a couple of hours of your time, just to learn the combat mechanics. It feels more like a grasshopper game than a platinum game to me tbh. I'm not quite sure why yet.

They've clearly been on an ass tight budget from Activision on this one. It screams "polish me".

But why not. I'll see it through.

About the elements:

Air bending feels kind of overpowered, especially at chi level 2 and 3 with all of the tornadoes doing additional damage, especially on the large spirit bosses.

One of IGN's negatives is that the parry window is too small. Yeah, okay.

I think its pretty small

Either the enemy is about to attack when he glows red or attacks immediately like a second later so its hard to gauge when to parry. Blocking is easy since you can just spam the block botton once the glow red.

15$ but not really sure if I should buy this. I do like the show, always fun to watch, great art design. The combat seems to be solid. I can't imagine that it is that bad as IGN says. 4.x points is usually a really bad game on their scale.

Enjoying the game quite a bit so far.

It does seem like a prime example of "the first playthrough is the tutorial" design Platinum games often have, so between that and the clearly lower budget I'm not surprised to see a bunch of reviewers not really 'getting' it.

It's almost game breaking tbh. The amount of damage and the sheer range...you can just start clearing out waves without breaking a sweat.

Ok, finished chapter 5.

Combat feels great. Parrying window doesn´t feel too small as far as i´m concerned. But i also thought the window in Revengeance was enormous on hard.

That one pro bending match in the campaign in the beginning was pretty easy, gonna try the mode later.

Naga sections are fucking annoying. Hate it. Reminds me why i don´t play those endless runners on ios. Why, just why.

Going to continue later on, gotta eat first.
