Legend of Korra |OT| Bending the Rules of Nature

Only played the first chapter since my TV shows were about to start, but seems pretty fun. Certainly not what I'd expect from a game IGN rated 4.3... I found that their Evil Within review was way off as well, at least for me. Couldn't stand that game.

I don't know if I'm just not getting the combat system, but I'm having a lot of difficulty with this. Can't even remotely get close to beating the first encounter with 3 triads.

I had trouble there. If you have a Chi bar for water bending be sure to get a charged attack off to get a boost to bending power, focus them down one by one (I always go for the water guy first) and try to dodge attacks and attack when there is an opening. Might also help buying the revive item from the shop (Katara's oasis water I think).

You'll get used to fighting them, sometimes you have to get lucky and try to counter when you think they'll attack, or you can keep dodging until you're sure they'll attack. Once you get earth-bending you'll fly through them

Fuck it, I just bought this. I watched a couple of videos and it looked like a few hours of fun.

We deserved a real TLA game by Platinum =(

It's as good as I expected, overall, I'm really enjoying it. 3 hours in, only 2 elements so far, but having a ton of fun with them, redoing chapters many times.

Playing with Speed Up, 2xEXP-1/2HP, the shadow combo thingie (I might disable that if it will stop me from experimenting on enemies) and auto regen (used the counter when hit for a while, but it happens so rarely that it's not worth that equip slot).

I gotta say, it's a lot more challenging than I was expecting it to be. Maybe it's because I'm playing at half health on my first playthrough, but it's quite something. I have water maxed out and Earth on level 7. dat dodge launcher, man TT_TT

It's beautiful.

I'VE FINALLY FOUND WHAT IIII WAS LOOOOOKING FOOOOOOOOOR

I think you have both water and earth bending available at that point? If you've been predominantly using water bending, that fight can be tough as they can attack through your attacks. Try getting up close and using earth bending, which staggers enemies and prevents them from hitting you back.

You only have water bending for the first fight with all three triads.

First encounter with the triads is at the top of the airbender temple, so you wouldn't have earthbending yet.

What was it about combat being poor, again? No match for Shadow of Mordor, huh?

I love Batman/Mordor combat, but I always got irked at people comparing it to Bayonetta, or other Platinum stuff. They're just so totally different.

Batman just trains people to be used to hitting a button and having batman snap someone's leg in half, so things like combos escape them.

So apparently there
a Equalist oufit for Korra, that was given via codes at comic con? Ugh probably not a way to unlock it in game beside those codes then.<.<

This is definitely not the best game ever, but it's pretty fun. I'm a fan of the show so that really helps! Combat is not bad, but man the hit boxes for enemies are weird.

I've only completed the first and second chapter but from what I've played so far I'm loving. I'm not amazing at character action games, but I do enjoy them a lot. I'm really enjoying this and the art looks really nice.

There's other codes too, its most likely gonna be the same thing, where its just button inputs so don't worry too much, itll show up on the internet somewhere

Oh, don't get me wrong, I fucking love that too, but it was a review that said that this game's combat is not as good as Shadow of Mordor. That's just bullshit.

I'm not even complaining about scores or anything, there are several reasons why one would think this game deserves a low score, but "worse combat than Mordor" is not one of them.

So this is what Platinum games are like... I'm getting my ass whooped.. lol. I can tell that it's just that I'm not good enough, though. The combat feels good, even when I'm not used to it. I'll need some more time with it, for sure, but I want to keep going to see what comes later.

It's definitely a learning process, once you start getting better, itll feel amazing, trust me haha

I'm agreeing with you. I'm saying this has been a problem since the first batman game. They're great games, but when they say they're better then the old school action fighting games like Bayonetta or Devil May Cry I just shake my head.

What's still unclear to me is what doing a perfect charge adds. As far as I can tell it's got the same effect as just holding it down all the way. It seems like maybe it cuts off a few frames of startup animation?
I don't think there's any bonus for getting a just frame charge off. It's not like the is DMC4 where Nero can get an instant charge for pressing LT the frame an attack hits. :P

Yeah, the first time playing against the Sato mecha tanks was one hella wake up call. I assumed Platinum would have toned the difficulty down considering the target age range, but NOPE.

I am glad to see people enjoying this. Flaws aside, I still enjoyed playing this. I hope this sells well so we might get more. This is definitely what I always wanted from Avatar in terms of gameplay (one you unlock all the elements).

I just beat the game in one sitting but i did find it enjoyable. once you can use all four elements I had a blast switching between them all and performing combos with them. Now i'm just exploring the rest of the game and doing some achievement cleanup.

The way Nick treats the IP I doubt we'll get another unless this really takes off. I can't believe we even got this. And while there was no real marketing at least they brought it to cons and did interviews.

The first couple of reviews wont help the game, but all the other one's I have seen seem positive.

It's not so much hard as it's unforgiving in the beginning. You just have so little health. The enemies don't really scale, but you just keep getting stronger and get more health. So at the end, it's really easy (except for the final boss). It's like a weird reverse difficulty curve.

Man, the more I play the more I really like it. Even though its budget shows through, platinum consistently proves that they can't make bad action games.

Im gonna go for the plat.

I'm having a blast right now, but that second mech fight is KILLING me, I think it's harder than Rising, at least.

Also, I found parrying a lot easier in MGR because you had to go forward+light attack at the moment the enemy attacks, instead of just a perfect block. It felt more responsive.

Try locking on and spacing yourself, I found before I had earth bending that it was best to focus on one triad with jumping and water bending. Course once I had earth I just bullied.

I've played this game on and off today for about 6 hours and I enjoyed it. The combat system is pretty interesting yet basic and I liked that you can level up the elemental powers and that it even included mini-games as segments. Seriously the game is completely centered around the combat system and while it's not on the same level as Shadow of Mordor or Bayo 2, I didn't expect it to be especially looking at the games price point. It's a fun yet short romp in the word of the avatar and it's enjoyable.

I reviewed it as well (http://www.theouterhaven.net/2014/10/review-legend-korra-video-game). Not the ground breaking Avatar title I was hoping for but it's solid none the less.

Those fools at IGN are just haters.
