Raise the flame shield: Your "controversial" gaming opinion.

The Wii-U has more games coming out between now and the end of the year that I want to play than either the Xboxone or PS4(Plan on picking up a Wii-u and one of the other systems prior to the end of the year. )

Destiny is boring and the armor all looks the same.

I've been watching some streams, and yeah it looks really underwhelming. Every mission seems the same, very little variety that I can see so far. Maybe that changes up at later levels, I dunno, but the journey is as important as the destination.

I'm not a Bungie or sci-fi fps fan, so it was unlikely I'd be excited about Destiny. But I kinda expected more from such an anticipated and hyped game. "That's it?" pretty much sums up how I feel about the game.

Here is mine. I sadly feel that alot of PS fans tend to always be unhappy with everything and be pessimistic while still defending their console or gaming in general.

I feel like a lot XB fans are more accepting of console problems and inconveniences as long as they can still play online games. I also think they have a more positive view about gaming news(and expect things will work out in their favor).

I say this as someone invested in both ecosystems but honestly prefer PS only because I feel like they put out more games that aren't shooters and/or focus on story.

I played the alpha and beta and watched a handful of streams yesterday and really the only consistent critique that i have about it is that its halo with an rpg/loot element. Not that thats inherently bad but i just see it as ppl clamoring for a revamp/rebranded form of halo by the original developers. Bungies pedigree is what drove the hype imo

i agree with this but i think its because from a long term branding perspective, Sony is a lot more diverse as far as how they represent gaming and i think that allows them to hit a lot of the right notes so to speak so ppl expect a lot more and the sense of entitlement comes off as overly critical (read oany of the ps+ threads each month)

Where as MS struck gold with their online service/infrastructure and the simultaneous association of COD and shooters in genreal with their brand. Because of this i think there are ppl who are more on the defensive side of things in regards to feeling as if MS is an equal competitor

That's a really well thought out reply.

Got one: Bungie should make a single-player RPG to mix things up, I love their worlds but I'd love a sandbox game in the vein of Fallout New Vegas by them even more.

I am not picking up Destiny but I do hope everyone who did enjoys it!

Nintendo's games are horrifically overrated, and I feel like they're only bought by people whose gaming decisions are fuelled by nostalgia goggles. Nothing about their gameplay is appealing whatsoever. (And releasing a console of the Wii U's power in 2012 is pathetic) Their controllers are shoddy at best with awful layouts.

As a handheld company, I have no problem with them besides the Mario titles. SOME of their 3DS stuff actually looks decent.

The Xbox is the better console this gen. To me, a good console is about innovation and the actual choice of games it has. By comparison, I feel that the PS4 is "only" a boost in graphics, which I have my PC for. And on a similar subject, Infamous Second Son is not a good looking game.

Mouse and keyboard controls feel clunky. I'll only use MKB if a game flat out doesn't function with a controller. I even put up with the thumb-destroying hold-to-sprint in BF3 PC just so I can use a controller.

Halo 2 multiplayer doesn't seem that great. I've only played the PC multiplayer, but Halo 3 MP flowed far better for me.

-Not sure if it's controversial, but Uncharted 3 is much better than Uncharted 2. (My opinion of course).

- I'll also second Final Fantasy XII as one of the best games in the series and Final Fantasy VII being just decent. (Don't think it deserves the pedestal it's put on, but that doesn't mean it's bad. Played it til completion too, so no hating.)

You may be right. PS fans just frustrated me so much. It kills me when I read that somebody won't a game because they think it will come to PS+ while I never hear this from XB fans. I don't care when it's a game that you know will get a follow up or the studio is backed by alot of money. Sure, they get paid to be a PS+ game but it's important for a Dev to start making money as soon as possible after release.

Extremely controversial: I think if we moved trough tech at a slower pace, or better phrased, if we had weaker consoles now, the industry would be a little better. You wouldn't have gigantic budgets, there wouldn't be as many studios deaths, and thus a little more diversity, plus more accessibility and cheaper prices.

-Playstation All Stars Battle Royale is a great game.
-Zelda games are boring.
-Half-Life 2 has not aged well.
-Final Fantasy XII is a good game.
-Xbox one is a good console.
-I love the Playstation Vita and find many people are ignorant about it and the amount of games it really has.and sony doesn't give a damn about vita future too
-I feel the same way about the Wii U, it is just as good as the Wii and Gamecube.
-Even though most of the games are similar the Call of Duty games are still good.
-Gamecube controller sucks.
-Dualshock controller is best controller.

Fixed that one for u dude

I agree with the top one. DS4 is the best controller too IMO.

I normally try to stay away from this thread (too many opinions that make me go "There is no way you are a real person; you, sir, are a monster"^^), but today I will be "That guy..."

I liked Sleeping Dog way more that GTAV. I liked the story more, characters more, setting more, heck even basic fighting I found more satisfying. GTAV is in no way a bad game, I just liked what Sleepy Dogs was doing better. I will be purchasing Sleeping Dogs HD over GTAV HD this fall...

I agree. I sorta cringed at taking missions from that show biz douche bag though because it was so GTA. Still though Sleeping Dogs >>>>>>> GTA (any entry)

Xenoblade Chronicles is overrated and if people consider it the jrpg of the generation - then that means the jRPGs of this past gen were poor in quality overall compared to previous gens (especially the last 2 gens before it).

This is half-true. I've no doubt Xenoblade Chronicles was a good game, but the J-RPGs of this past gen were poor in quality overall. The ones that we were able to play in English, at least.

I don't disagree with this, or at least the core idea behind it: we need to figure out a way to make games without spending so much money. I miss the PS1 and PS2 era where not every game had to be a guaranteed blockbuster hit just to be released. Indie games are a thing, but for the most part they don't appeal to me as someone who doesn't pine for the days of 8bit gaming or PC gaming.

lol. Don't worry. I understand where you're coming from--in fact, I am already ready for Sleeping Dogs HD despite the fact that I platinumed the original.

I may have made this claim in the past, but not in this thead:

I had more fun playing Two Worlds than Skyrim. I don't know how to articulate why this is the case, but I found the jank of that POS game to be charming for some dumb reason.

Sony is very overrrated here in Neogaf.

Deus-Ex 1 is amazing in concept but the game is extremely dated.

I think turn based JRPGS are extremely boring and most of the time the stories aren't even that interesting to hold the game up. Most japanese games don't really have well written stories unless you count the very best Jrpgs like Mother.

However, story shouldn't really matter in videogames. Videogames should be about gameplay first, and how fun and polished it is, and then everything else.

Videogame music has become absolutely terrible and uninspired for the most part. There are a few games here and there that have amazing compositions but I think too many videogame OSTs these days are trying to be too cinematic and orchestral.

The Tales series has pretty much always been better than the Final Fantasy series.

Not always because Final Fantasy was out on the Famicom and NES. And Tales of Phantasia didn't come out until the Super Famicom.
But I feel like since then, Tales has been nicer than Final Fantasy.

SRPGs are often better than JRPGs/WRPGs.

Oblivion is a much better game than Skyrim.

Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter is a fantastic game and one of the best ps2 JRPGs.

The Last of Us is no more than an 8.5 game and certainly not game of the year material. It is a good game certainly but it has a large number of issues and did nothing special in the third person shooter genre.

Pokémon is one of the worst franchises that I have ever played. It's boring, lacks true depth, and is shockingly repetitive.
That's factually wrong.
Deus-Ex 1 is amazing in concept but the game is extremely dated.

Absolutely, it's one of those games that a remake would make it incredibly better and i'm not talking about the graphics.
Said that i still enjoy playing it every damn time i boot it up.

-----

Out of this new generation (WiiU/PS4/Xbone) i have yet to see a single game that really excites me.
It all feels the same old stuff from 7 years ago.

Hmmm. I'll give it a shot...

I think there should be more honest depictions of sex in video games. Not just from behind the curtains or under the covers. That's boring. With that being said, all games besides The Witcher franchise are doing it wrong.

Also, I think that Hot Shots Golf aka "Everybody's Golf" should have been 2012's GoTY for at least one online publication out there.

Troy Baker and Nolan North are providing voicings for too many prominent characters in popular video games. It's not that they don't have talent, it's just that they're everywhere. Microphones all over the world need rest and deserve to be treated with more respect.

I believe the resolution debate between home consoles is overblown and probably needs a nice sip of ice water to cool it down a little. We all know that all of our weeners are above average except for Cartman's (as seen on South Park season 15 episode 4 titled "TMI").

One last one - online multiplayer is overrated! There, I said it. I hope we can still play co-op in Borderlands the Pre-sequel together though.

There is nothing wrong with cinematic games or games that make some sort of effort to emulate film. They have their place. However, you're just a plain asshole if you think every game needs to be as such. No jackass, The Last of Us isn't the culmination of all things gaming, and decades of progress didn't lead up to games like it. Video games are meant to be more than just interactive movies, or movies with bits of game play inbetween. Gaming is a powerful and unique medium mainly due to the ability for one to interact with it. Why hold it back and do such injustice by making all of them mere films?

You have every right to enjoy these types of games, but don't ask for more of them. If you want to watch a movie so bad then watch one. Don't order a hamburger and demand that it look, smell and taste like pizza. Don't ruin my fucking hobby with your horrible, misguided view as to what all games need to be. Thank you.

When one expresses an opinion, and the best reply some can think of to dismiss it - "well that's your opinion..." or "you forgot imo"...no shit

Speaking of resolution...
I find it nuts that after 9 years that we were promised 1080p console gaming we still struggle to do that a generation after that very promise and in my opinon all is to blame to consumers who really don't give a shit and would rather see an extra shader on the main protagonist's ass rather than play at native screen resolution... same goes for framerate.
And the moment some people try to be vocal about the situation there are a bunch of people that try to defend this crappy stuff.

Bayonetta 2 is boring as fuck. Nothing more than a repetitive button masher. The first game sucks too. Nintendo should have greenlit Vanquish 2 instead.

How does that work? If you don't mind me asking...

I think they're too hard and complicated. DCM3 gives your all these weapons and fightstyles, but i never used most of them they way the game would liked me to have done...and still beat it.
DMC1 is also a dreary mess. I was told it was a gothic action game, but what they meant was it was an emo action game.
