Raise the flame shield: Your "controversial" gaming opinion.

"Cross Gen and Xbox 11 are holding games back#!" Commentators are hilarious. Welcome to the world of PC...except we are moving on to 1440p/4k/144hz and higher resolutions with great cpus and GPUs while consoles will struggle with 970 for another 5+ years. It's amusing from a technical aspect.

Sunset Overdrive is a perfect example of everything that is wrong with the world and society nowadays.

Not surprising at all that it us coming from Xbox/MS.

I need more than just this. What do you mean?

Controversial opinion: Kickstarter has been a disappointment for me. Not in terms of the quality of games, or the idea that people have been ripped off or anything. On the contrary, many of the games released have had quite the fanfare and have satisfied their customers.

Instead, my problem is that to me, they aren't doing anything interesting. I was so excited to see settings and worlds that I hadn't. But I'm not hyped for 8-bit or 16-bit titles. I'm not hyped for isometric RPGs. They're not bad, it's just that everything I've seen so far has screamed "not for you".

The Last of Us is not a great game and has just a decent story. It's a good game with gameplay that becomes a drag halfway through the game and a story that is better than most but isn't anything that we've haven't seen in recent movies or books.

Bad Company 1 on PS3/360 looks better than Bad Company 2, Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 on the same consoles.

The resolution and textures look better in Bad Company 1, likely as a result of not having to optimize the game for PC/PS4/One so more attention given to make the product better which is why its my favorite Battlefield of recent memory.

Ya there's less customization but I never really cared to customize skins and load outs, the game gives you a simple choice of classes and its fairly well balanced except the motion sensor spamming which could be easily fixed if they wanted customers to stay with the older product.

Thank you, the fanfare around it is ridiculous.

I feel that for some here the phrase 'but this is an enthusiast forum!' justifies an extreme ( imo exaggerated) focus on very particular aspects while neglecting the fascination of gaming as a whole.

I would appreciate to see enthusiasm for the games themselves.

On the flipside, here's a really controversial opinion for GAF: I definitely want to play a game, but all this "you don't need a narrative, just let me play without a story" is a bunch of bullshit.

To zoom out further, many posters say stuff that could be considered an extension of that same line of thought (narrative doesn't matter, visuals don't matter, only "gameplay" matters, etc), and I don't think these posters fully understand how deeply aesthetics affect their experience with a game. Bayonetta, for example, is so totally reliant on varied and fantastic animation (among many other aesthetic elements). The game's mechanics need these animations for them to even make sense, and a lot of the satisfaction we get from playing the game is due to how well these animations tie to their governing mechanics (as well as other stuff like sound cues). Having engrossing cutscenes is simply a larger-scale version of this example.

I was of a similar opinion when playing the game on PS3. But once you start to embrace the tactical aspects of the stealth gameplay, it's becomes a much more enjoyable experience. It's just very different from Uncharted and the similar games where you slaughter enemies ad nauseam. TLOU's encounters actually has a link to the story.

I know it's your opinion and I respect that. I just think that people should remind themselves that TLOU isn't an ordinary shooter.

Fair enough man. I get that.
I will play through it one day for sure, I just need to be in the mood for it I suppose.

Whilst I am aware it's just a game and I am not trying to be overly dramatic, to me, Sunset Overdrive sums up the way I feel about modern society.

Just watching the trailer it is all about "wow look how cool and Xtreme we are!", "bodacious", "rad dude", breaking the fourth wall etc.

I always say, you are either cool or you're not, you can't "buy" cool. Sunset Overdrive is like some loser you know trying their hardest to convince everyone that they're really hip but most people actually snigger at them behind their back.

And for some reason, watching the trailer reminds me of a lot of the conversations I've had with 18-20 year old hipsters. An entire generation with a chip on their shoulder.

Sorry, it's hard to put into words what I dislike about the game. I don't feel I've explained it the way I'd like, but it's 8am and I'm not a morning person lol.

Call me an old fart, but Sunset Overdrive is the perfect example of what I like to call a dumb game for dumb gamers. Mindless. All style (if you want to call it that) and no substance. The type of game for people who don't read books because they're "boring".

Destiny burnt me badly. It burnt me so badly that I never want to buy a Bungie or Activision game again and anyone who does support them is just giving them their way so that they can pull BS like this again.

- the XBox One is beside the hardware power the superior product.
- RE 4 is a Horrible RE and a horrible Game even without the connection to RE.
- demon Souls is far better then DS 1& 2.
- goldeneye is overrated.
- FF9 was the last real FF.

Its funny how many new PC Gamers are overwhelmed by this Platform. As someone who builds and plays with PCs Since 1994, believe me there will be a dimmishing return. ;)

I hate the Souls' games with a passion.

Now, even though I hate them, I think they're good games.

They have a dark atmosphere/story, satisfying combat/movement, cool enemies, beautifully crafted worlds and a lot of polish.

However, the difficulty makes me want to take the disk and smash it into oblivion. After playing for 4 hours and not getting past level 1, I had to stop.

I hate it so much because it's a game that I really want to play and I feel like I'm missing out, but I just can't. It infuriates me.

Luckily, Lords of the Fallen looks to be right up my alley.

your avatar fits you perfectly, it's something he'd say.

The GBA version of Donkey Kong country 3 is the best Rare DK Country. Obviously Tropical Freeze is the best over all. Dunno how controversial that is but most people seem to love DKC2 and hate the GBA ports.

Elder Scrolls series is pretty boring.
The Fallout series is pretty boring.

The Wii U is clearly the best next-gen system to own right now. Nothing is even on the horizon for X1 and PS4 meanwhile the Wii U has MK8, Smash 4 and Bayonetta 2.

Right now, Nintendo is king.

I bought Final Fantasy XII because people were praising it/ it got a maximun 40/40 score on Famitsu. And then the game was garbage, to the point that it was almost unplayable.

That "taste", or opinion was very controversial.

This is the most useless thread on this entire god damn site.

"i like this game that is not very popular"'

"i dislike this game that is very popular"

wow, so brave.

Not very controversial, but after buying every Madden since 05 at launch I'm officially done with it. Being an online only player in sports games makes the game even worst with constant hurry up offense and the same defense EVERY play. Pretty much done with all sports games except for UFC.

Speaking of UFC, EA UFC has been completely ruined with the latest patch. Non stop combos of left right left right punches to the body. Boils down to sock em bop ems starring UFC fighters.

The Last of Us was ok, but not amazing. Not a GOTY at all in my books. Good story, though! This is also after making the remastered version my first time playing

When I was younger I rented Superman 64 and really enjoyed it. It wasn't until years later that I heard that it was one of the most reviled games in history.

I was literally just going to post something similar. While the server stuff was infuriating for awhile, the overall game is fantastic. Its likely my GOTY at this point as well.
I was starting to get annoyed with the server issues as well. After playing a ton of races tonight with a full team, fast matchmaking and minimal drops, my faith has been resored even if it still isn't 100%. The game really has its hooks in me. I can't get enough.

Amiibos are a ludicrously bad idea. I went to the demo kiosk at Walmart and am still confused as to what their intended purpose is. It listed hyrule warriors as a title, I dragged a virtual link amiibo to a virtual UPad and... It gave me a legend of zelda history lesson.

Not to mention the figures themselves are offensively low quality. I have nicer Mario figures that cost $8 and these cost nearly double!?

It just seems like a rush to the market after they failed to capitalize on skylanders when it was first offered to them.

Story driven games stay more cohesive in a linear game format. Open wold games are often too repetitive and monotonous in an effort to provide filler content. Sometime less is more.
