Raise the flame shield: Your "controversial" gaming opinion.

I think dead space 3 is the best game of the series.

I dunno about best of the series, but I definitely think its underrated. I loved it because a) the gun building was really in depth and fun and b) all the references to Arctic expeditions, which is like catnip to me (I'm a history major, of course).
And for me:

I think Sleeping Dogs is better than GTA.

i believe Robert Ludlum's The Bourne Conspiracy was in the top 5 of best games last gen, that game was awesome

There is nothing wrong with cinematic games or games that make some sort of effort to emulate film. They have their place. However, you're just a plain asshole if you think every game needs to be as such. No jackass, The Last of Us isn't the culmination of all things gaming, and decades of progress didn't lead up to games like it. Video games are meant to be more than just interactive movies, or movies with bits of game play inbetween. Gaming is a powerful and unique medium mainly due to the ability for one to interact with it. Why hold it back and do such injustice by making all of them mere films?

You have every right to enjoy these types of games, but don't ask for more of them. If you want to watch a movie so bad then watch one. Don't order a hamburger and demand that it look, smell and taste like pizza. Don't ruin my fucking hobby with your horrible, misguided view as to what all games need to be. Thank you.

There is so much stupidity in this post, I don't even know how to take the first step in addressing it. There isn't a single person that thinks all games need to be cinematic, you're generalizing people who enjoy those games. Games like The Last of Us are not films they are GAMES just because they don't have shitty dialogue and pay actual attention to aspects other than just core gameplay unlike most Japanese games doesn't make them films. Games can be whatever the developer intends them to be, any other thought is just ignorant and close minded. You don't have to enjoy them, but outright saying they shouldn't exist is selfish and plain idiotic.

Bungie has always been completely incompetent at storytelling. I know this is popular opinion for Destiny but all of the Bungie-made Halo games are nearly incoherent and do a terrible job of conveying their stories. They are good at visual design and set dressing but can't string together a plot to save their lives, which is why Destiny didn't even try.

Medieval fantasy games like The Elder Scrolls, Dragon Age and all these Lord of The Rings games that's been spitting out allover is just straight up garbage.

I don't understand why walk-throughs exist. I do not like them. I never use them. I like to discover stuff on my own, another reason I hate other players telling me what to do when I play a game.
Screw PT for nearly changing my philosophy.

You literally do not understand why anyone would want to use a walkthrough? Oh man

I believe Nintendo released the Red Wii as a means for future excuse if people were to raise a shitstorm regarding the closing down of the Wii's online features. (Yes i've heard its gamespy yada yada however Call of Duty reflex for Wii is backup as is Call of Duty 3 and black ops i believe).

So basically Red Wii, no online, Nintendo shuts down Online for Wii, if a shitstorm had happened Nintendo could say Red Wii, latest Wii doesn't have online anyway so why the big deal folks?

Planned Obsolescence to move customers to latest and greatest product Wii U. There still was a large amount of people playing MK Wii and had they stayed put less money for MK8 and Wii U.

Left 4 Dead is better than Left for Dead 2

GTA 4's story and characters are better than GTA 5's

Pokemon is boring and repetitive

The Evil Within is one of the best games this year.

Bad Company 2 is the best battlefield game.

Isn't this everyones opinion?

It's first person and you can shoot guns in it? I get that it's supposed to be stealthy but c'mon

Here is mine. I sadly feel that alot of PS fans tend to always be unhappy with everything and be pessimistic while still defending their console or gaming in general.

I feel like a lot XB fans are more accepting of console problems and inconveniences as long as they can still play online games. I also think they have a more positive view about gaming news(and expect things will work out in their favor).

I say this as someone invested in both ecosystems but honestly prefer PS only because I feel like they put out more games that aren't shooters and/or focus on story.

I want to give you a award for that statement! Thank you! I have been trying to think of a way to say just that.

MOBAs are a terrible genre of game, I don't understand why games like LoL are so popular. To make matters worse as a massive eSports fan, watching MOBAs continuously top popularity in fucking eSports is an absolute joke to me, MOBAs are just so bad, I don't understand.

I don't like DLC and wish it'd go away permanently. Include it in the game or expansion pack or don't include it at all. I don't like being nickle and dimed for content.

Mobas are terrible and I hate them.

I don't like mario games. Zelda games are pretty boring but I liked Wind Waker.

I'm sick of pokemon games.

Consoles should have a dev mode enabled by default to modify the console I bought. It should be able to break the eula and prevent me from getting support/free repairs, but that's fine.

Uncharted would be better if there was no combat, or if I could use a mouse and keyboard for the combat.

I hate using a controller for FPS games.

Red Wii you posted is a normal Wii colored red. You meant this:

And its the other way around, Nintendo knew they'd shut down services so they wanted latest customers to not feel like they were ripped of something they paid.

Nintendo is the only company that respects customers and aims to deliver quality regardless of sales.

You may be right. PS fans just frustrated me so much. It kills me when I read that somebody won't a game because they think it will come to PS+ while I never hear this from XB fans. I don't care when it's a game that you know will get a follow up or the studio is backed by alot of money. Sure, they get paid to be a PS+ game but it's important for a Dev to start making money as soon as possible after release.

This is because no games of note ever come to Games with Gold, so there is no expectation that anything new and/or good will be there, rather than a difference in the outlook of PS fans vs. XB fans.

If Games With Gold started having games show up only a few months after release, XB fans would do the exact same thing.

"Not being told something/how to do something yet it makes sense" is inherently better than "telling you to do something that has an arbitrary reason for how and/or why that is happening that way you'd have to figure out by rote trial and error."

I really hate Geralt of fucking Rivia as a character and i really hate the combat system in the Witcher games.

here it is.

I don't like Bethesda games.. is this a controversial opinion? idk.. played Fallout 3, after 3 - 5 hours I have stopped playing it .. Fallout New Vegas (from Obsidian) - when I finished the game, I had around 93 hours of play time.. Skyrim/Oblivion - played about 5 hours each of them, then stopped.. other RPG games like Witcher1/2, Dragon Age:Origins, Alpha Protocol, Mass Effect, Risen, Dark Souls 1/2, etc. if I didn't played them to the end, than atleast I played each one of those for more than 50 hours..
I don't know, it just Bethesda games are really boring for me.. and that's a big problem if a long RPG game can't entertaind me for more than 5 hours

I'm already regretting buying a PS4 - there are just no exclusives I'm really looking forward to and I feel obligated to just turn it on every once in a while so it's not just sitting there. I know it's powerful but there's nothing on it that I want. All my friends are on Xbox Live and I like the controller and OS much better so I'll get cross-platform games on there.

I'm only really looking forward to Uncharted 4 at this point and I was looking forward to Driveclub (PS+ version) but we all know how that's played out.

Fable III is the most boring game I have ever played and has easily the stupidest menu system ever created.

Dead Rising is awful and 2 is only decent because of co-op

Watch_Dogs received too much hate and is honestly a pretty solid game

Driveclub doesn't look as good as it was hyped to be and things like large bodies of water look straight up bad. I'm not saying it doesn't have its moments and thinking that the game would look like so many of the prehype gifs is on me. Maybe when we get weather...

Sell it and get yourself a Wii U.

GNU/Linux are the perfect gaming OS. Faster and more customizable than Windows. Too bad there arent many games (compared to Windows), but situation is much much better than 5 years ago.

The 3DS library is very underwhelming. It definitely doesn't compare to the GBA and (especially) the DS libaries. A lot of its games are either disappointing entries to existing franchises (Paper Mario Sticker Star, Fire Emblem Awakening, Pokémon XY, Mario & Luigi Dream Team, Yoshi's New Island, etc) or inferior versions of games found in other systems (Mario Kart 7, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Super Mario 3D Land, Smash Bros, Donkey Kong Country Returns etc).

There are still some gems on the system, like Animal Crossing New Leaf, the great Ocarina of Time remake, Theatrhythm Final Fantasy and some would say A Link Between Worlds (but I think it was too safe for my tastes, unlike the divisive Skyward Sword), so I wouldn't call the 3DS "a system without good games". It is just extremely disappointing after the Nintendo DS, the handheld which IMO was the best ever made and the fantastic Game Boy Advance.

In the end, the only reason I still keep my 3DS is because I still hope for a Majora's Mask remake (and fear that they might release it exclusively for the stupid New 3DS), plus I need a system to play the fantastic DS library.

I am having a hell of a hard time enjoying The Last of Us. I had it on ps3 and couldn't get into it, upgraded to ps4 and I'm in the same boat. Amazing story and visuals but the game play isn't good.

I enjoy DkS2 more than 1. I've sunk more than enough time into both, and that's the final conclusion I have.
GTA5 is crap.
I don't think Destiny is the worst thing ever.
I really dislike Borderlands.

Becoming more and more of a PC gamer I regret my PS4 purchase, it's sitting there purely for Bloodborne and UC4 at this point.

I also regret PS+ it's free game selection on PS4 has been woeful outside of a couple games.

Lastly, I must say this fall has been the worst I can remember, outside of Alien and Evil Within (which I can't play yet until I get my new PC) there is a handful of indie games I want to play; AAA has completely let me down this Q4.

shadow of the colossus, most overrated boring piece of shit I have ever played.

look past the minimalist 'art' crap and it is a boring game with crappy 'minimalist' mechanics, there are far better puzzle games out there.

I was of a similar opinion when playing the game on PS3. But once you start to embrace the tactical aspects of the stealth gameplay, it's becomes a much more enjoyable experience. It's just very different from Uncharted and the similar games where you slaughter enemies ad nauseam. TLOU's encounters actually has a link to the story.

I know it's your opinion and I respect that. I just think that people should remind themselves that TLOU isn't an ordinary shooter.

State your "controversial" gaming opinion here, members of GAF: opinion that you personally held close at heart but at odds against the majority of video game enthusiasts here in GAF or at large.

However, please be careful not to venture into trolling territory please :) And remember, do not herald your own personal opinion as the absolute truth that others must abide to or else.

I'll start:

I consider myself as a huge fan of Legend of Zelda series, and I have played almost all the games available in the series. However, for the life of me I cannot bring myself to like Majora's Mask, a game that I see many fans of Legend of Zelda herald as the best in the series. I personally thought the Ocarina of Time was and still is the more superior version, and Skyward Sword is a vastly, vastly superior game compared to it.

Its game structure is unique, I'll give it that, but for the life of me I just cannot bring myself to enjoy it. Generally speaking I just don't like to be rushed when playing my video game: I like playing games that let me complete it at my own pace (which is why I like most RPGs, I suppose)

So what is your "controversial" gaming opinion, GAF?

Nintendo is not the best game developer in the business.

I don't even think this is a controversial viewpoint. Most of 2014 has been shitty for triple-A retail releases. The majority of them have been disappointing at best and mediocre at worst, and at the moment it's looking like the two best games of 2013 might well be among the best of 2014 as well.

Skyrim>Morrowind>Oblivion

Morrowind could be a really great game if not for the absolutely abysmal combat. In fact, "abysmal" is too kind a word for it. The combat is just purely, fucking, unbearable.
