I've had mixed feelings about Johansson's Black Widow since IM2. I love the actress, love Black Widow, yet somehow I can't swallow her in the role completely. I honestly think Blunt would have been a better fit, she was fantastic in... shit, everything. But specifically Edge of Tomorrow, since that's an action movie too I guess.

Apparently she was Favreau's choice, but had to give it up due to Gulliver's Travels.

Other note: She was allegedly offered the role of Peggy Carter, but turned that down as well?

I am expecting no more than the lead in Dr Strange being announced (whether that's Cumberpatch or not) to keep my expectations in check. Anything more will be icing. Anything less will be sort of expected given their last few "big" announcements.

You could probably approach someone who has never seen a single one of the films and they could tell you that. Its like Batman and Bruce Wayne. Superman and Clark Kent.

Yea the big ones have pretty fleshed out personas. Hell if kids didn't know who Bruce Wayne is then that part in the Lego Movie would have been a huge whooosh but it wasn't. Saw it with my friend and his little kids and they knew exactly who he was and was laughing at the scene.

Now Oliver Queen, Diana, Carol Danvers and i would even say Matt Murdock might get a question mark from kids. 8 years ago I might have even said Tony Stark and Steve Rogers but not anymore.

I don't think they can do Katee because she's tied to a couple of TV shows. (Longmire?). So many of the major casting choices we would love end up getting kibosh'd due to rather dumb things. Just because they aren't selling Peter Parker action figures doesn't mean kids don't know who Peter Parker is. I can't even think of a Spider-Man show or movie where Peter's personal life doesn't play a part in the story.

I just looked it up and if this site is correct it looks like RDJ, Johansson, Renner, and Mackie are all "Movie to Movie" contracts. I thought I had previously heard that RDJ had a numbered contract though.

It's still interesting to see these because while I could understand RDJ and Johansson being Movie to Movie due to their relative star power, I'd guess Mackie is movie to movie because his character isn't as vital as the others. Not really sure where Renner sits as an argument could be made both ways (his character not being as important and his star power being fairly large).

Peter Parker is pretty much the only secret identity they do sell toys of- because he's one of the only ones famous enough on his own to sell. Kids absolutely know who Peter is, it's crazy to think otherwise.
