Danny Brown is my friend on the Wii U (not kidding about this either) and he released one of the best albums of the decade, so nah, he isn't garbage

I presume this is so you can judge my lack of taste? Eh, I guess I will play along. I have not really been listening to a lot of rap music lately (have been enjoying other genres more this year), but these would probably be my top 5 hip-hop artists right now:

1. Kendrick Lamar
2. Kanye West
3. Killer Mike
4. Azealia Banks
5. Drake

I'm sure you will disagree. Haha.

I don't really find those lyrics funny, just disgusting and abhorrent. Maybe I will when I am in a more tolerant mood.

You goddamn right. How the fuck... nah, it's whatever. You're not a DB fan, I think the same about Banks. That chick is useless.

hey speaking of garbage tier
Finally Famous is a better album than XXX. XXX is about as good as Hall of Fame, maybe slightly better because of 30. Danny knows it too, and he let his insecurities take shots at the throne when his product wasn't potent enough. Must have been embarrassing TBH, making an album that is a biography of sorts and it doesn't have as much staying power or keepers as a pop-rap album. But when your biggest influences are Earl and Chief Keef, it becomes a bit easier to understand.

XXX is easily the most overrated hip-hop album in perhaps a decade. Overrated thematically, in terms of standouts, lyricism, production, cohesion, influence, everything.

rappers say they're the GOAT all the time, non-story

This. And I bet he won't be able to remember this "top 5" next week. Some people aren't serious all the time, OP.

Danny is dope, sorry breh

Danny Brown said:
My homie's a magician with the Tec
Make your chain disappear and reappear on his neck

I ain't tricking with you hoes, but shit don't ask him
Only thing I give a bitch? A fucking orgasm
I'll throw you in the river, hands tied tight
Watch your ass drown, feel it in the air tonight
I'm spitting that dope shit, smoking on regulars
Writing 16's like internet child predators

bars homie, bars

What the hell are you talking about.

You said the guy rambles incoherently, I post a track that shows he doesn't and you say 'I don't really find those lyrics funny, just disgusting and abhorrent' It just goes to show you have a superficial understanding of his music, yet here you are arguing like you know what he's all about. You're plain wrong on this one.

He talks about many aspects of life, regardless of whether or not it's 'abhorrent'. It's real life. I'm glad he doesn't fart out top 40 chart music.

If/When her first album is released, I think she will become more appreciated. '1991' and 'Fantasea' prove that she has something to her that is worth acknowledging.

Anyway, I guess we will agree to disagree.

What the hell... more appreciated by who, bruh? Half of the industry openly shits on her. Her label (does she even have one anymore) won't release her first album...

Are you trolling me right now?

Idk man Big Sean is kinda trash unless you're a teenager who wears streetwear. If you're really invested into the rap genre, I really don't see how someone could pick a Big Sean rapper over Danny Brown. If we really want to talk about no substance then there we go.

I wholeheartedly respect your opinion though

I was just talking quality of albums. Big Sean is way more technically skilled than Danny Brown, I don't think that's up for debate really. Danny attacks beats in the same 2-3 ways where as Big Sean often tries unorthodox flows and can really cook when he feels like it. Both have carved out their own unique styles. Big Sean's content tends to be a bit more vapid and materialistic, but I don't really think Danny's is that much more complex despite rooting itself in pain. I can see why people would prefer Danny, as he's more left field when it comes to delivery and a Pitchfork golden boy, but most of the praise for XXX is unfounded. It's merely an okay album, that really only gets to the heart of what people praise it for (emotional storytelling) in one or two songs, one being 30.

You seemed to be confused as to what part of my post pertains to what part of your previous post.

Unrelated to that however, just because an artist does not "fart out top 40 char music" does not mean they are good. Of course, this is all based on opinion, since music is subjective.

Well whatever you think of a track about eating pussy is irrelevant because you can't back up anything you say, i'll just reiterate that you have a superficial understanding of his music based on what, I don't know. Half listening to one track. If you've listened to XXX all the way through or even a handful of tracks from that album you would know you were wrong. The first track on that album pretty much says all you need to know about the guy and it's not rambling and incoherent.

What do sales have to do with anything? Of course she is not going to sell a lot of copies.

Because no one appreciates that bullshit.

Real talk. No substance? That's just denial.

I'm confused as to why you suddenly turned to sales to attempt to argue about the quality of music (calling it "bullshit" because it doesn't sell). That is a bit troubling.

I asked you initially who would appreciate her album if it ever dropped, you skipped over that. Why wouldn't sales be apart of that equation? I mean, someone's gotta want that shit, right?

People do want it. How many people is significant enough for you? 50K? Why not 5K? Why not 500? Etc. What arbitrary number is enough for you?

I picked 50K as props to her stans. I thought it was a decent amount of sales, 5K seems insulting. But why argue over some shit that'll never happen?

That definitely is. Danny Brown can really rap, whether its a story, sex driven song, or something boastful regardless of the flow he use. The way he uses his voice as an instrument essentially is deserving of credit. He's done some really good storytelling songs like Scrap or Die, Dope Song, Thank God, or even Guitar Solo.

XXX deserves it praise and it is a bit of a modern day classic, I think even more so than GKMC. I can understand why the fact he's a Pitchfork golden boy can cause some hatred but he really is one of the best rappers to come out in recent time. I like the fact it's different because I can only take so much of what rap can offer when it's confined to what rap is known as. Noz did a really good interview with him a couple years back before XXX and his influences are apart of what make him so interesting

Big Sean is just super boring to me. Generic content, generic style, and generic technique. It could be argued that Kanye is responsible for creating him though.

I will fucking fight you if you're trolling me

This thread got me in the mood for some danny brown now. Him aside, his music puts him as one of the leaders of the new school for sure.

Time to go listen to the hybrid/xxx/old.

Like I said, technically. When it comes to using double+ entendres, varying his flow, wordplay, multisyllabic rhymes, Big Sean does everything Danny can't. The rest of my post addressed content.

He is probably one of the worst rappers I have had the displeasure of listening to in the last few years. There is no substance to his music and no intriguing or enjoyable qualities to it. It just exists as ramblings about the typical topics of discussion that most rap music deals with, and offers no significant expansion off of those topics.
It's like you didn't listen to XXX
