The Order: 1886 sure is, uh, cinematic

Being this tight lipped about the game is just fucking embarrassing. I still remember the collective groan of the theater in Atlanta when that triangle prompt popped up on screen during the gameplay reveal earlier this year.

You guys made one of the best God Of War games ever. Gameplay shouldn't be an issue for you. Get your shit together.

The gameplay we've been shown doesnt look bad, but it doesnt look amazing nor revolutionary either. Coming from Santa Monica, I believe the gameplay will be fun, as well as a good story to follow. I believe the gameplay will probably be close to The Last of Us, probably without the melee element though.

Given the theme, and aesthetic the game has, I honestly think it would be very hard to mess this up.

"i played this unimpressive concerning cinematic demo thats been out for months and i agree its very unimpressive, concerning, and cinematic."
lets 86 this article...

So it's the same shit demo we've all seen. Why are the devs keeping this game so close to their chest? It's only hurting them.
Folks are busting their asses to finish the game. All of their resources are going towards that at this point. Creating a vertical slice demo takes a lot of time and effort away from development.

How do we know that this is the exact same demo? I remember when DmC was in development they kept updating the demo build but it took place in the same place in the game. How do we know that they aren't doing that here?

I just want more info on Tesla and more gameplay segments showing off the half breeds. Also, please show the destruction that was talked about so long ago, in December's event.

The Order thread?

The Order thread.

You better share that damn popcorn.

OT: People writing articles to spread negativity about this game?

"Hey guys, we have shown this demo in like 20 events and we allways get the same comment: It looks great but isn't very fun to play"

"Damn, what can we do to get people excited about it"

"I know, let's keep bringing the exact same demo to every single gaming event, I'm sure someone will truly like it sooner or later"

"Brilliant!!!"

Demos take time away from development. I'd rather they spend their time making sure the final product is as enjoyable as possible for those of us that are actually going to be paying for it, than trying to impress a bunch of journalists that are largely incompetent anyway. If they impress in December, all the bad previews will have done is generate publicity and the foul stench they brought with them will be forgotten. On the other hand, if The Order still comes across as a snoozefest, then RAD will be in serious trouble.
So, it could be incompetence, or a calculated risk.

Edit: Beaten, by both Shinobi and my phone.

The thing that upsets me is that I feel like even if this game turns out good, reviewers will still pan it anyways because they've already got it set in their mind that its no good.

If RAD is unlucky, the same people that previewed the game and thought negatively of it will the the ones reviewing the final product.

Since we've only seen the same vertical slice of the game for some time, if you are at all concerned about how the game will end up, maybe you should just hold off on ordering it until we get some full impressions. All of this speculation on a demo that is quite old at this point is meaningless.

Don't get me wrong, I believe this game is gonna be great but you gotta agree that a lot if the media surrounding it has sucked. Things should change in December hopefully.

As time goes on, I'm finding my feelings typically end up the exact opposite of the media's general consensus. So the more negativity I hear, the more it convinces me I'd really like this game.

They need to show a different portion of the game. Do they realize probably every person that has played that section has been very unimpressed? Is their plan to release the game and be like, "Surprise! The game is actually completely different from what we keep showing you and its actually really good." I hope they do but I don't get it.

If this is not representative of the game then why the hell does Sony and RAD keep showing the same demo? They sure know it's bad, right? It's like they're intentionally killing any hype for the game.

Now, if this is representative of the game, well...

I think the most important thing for RAD and Sony to do with the marketing for this game is to get a video out showing a standard combat encounter. Currently we've only seen tutorials which are generally more scripted and restrictive than other scenarios. The Gamescom trailer made the guns look punchy and satisfying, show that off.

We have actually seen very little of this game. In a way this is good because there could be some great surprises in store... but on the other hand, because the demo is apparently not very convincing there is understandably a lot of skepticism about this game out there.

If there are great previews in the coming months, the skepticism can be countered. The demo could be a poor representation of the game, it could be a game that doesn't demo well (ala Evil Within)... or it could just be that the game isn't very good. I simply haven't seen enough to feel like I can make an informed decision on this game.

The bite size dev team making this is the main thing that makes me doubt that they'll pull off anything other than a Beyond-esque corridor train ride. Which is fine, if that's what you expect going in.

My theory is that there is no "standard" encounter, of any note at least. The game is supposed to be super cinematic, so I'm fully expecting an equal balance of shooting, QTE, exploration and cutscene. It's gonna be hard to demo that without spoiling much.

I think in part this happened to Ryse and Destiny.
I'm not saying they are the best games in the world.

Reviewers often find an opinion and glom on to it. It just happens. I feel it is partly RADs fault. They keep bringing out a demo that people don't seem to like.

I really hope this game turns out well because the presentation and aesthetic are just amazing. I wonder if uncharted will look as good as this sometimes.

OK, so they can't create different demo that show their game better, here's a suggestion: Don't show the goddamn old demo, it's only giving you bad press.

Do they really have some obligation to show the game every time there's an event? if the game isn't ready for showcase then it's not ready.

it's a good thing a game on a shelf in the store doesn't run away after the first week and stays there.

people act as if games cease to exist after launch day. if you are unsure, wait for player impressions here at gaf.

yes, keep the game trailers to a minimum. this is one of the things that affected the perception of uncharted 3. nd showed way too much.

There's something about the media and jumping on bandwagons for consistency and perceived integrity. Same thing happens with car previews and reviews. Suddenly everyone hates the sound of car X or the interior of car Y. I get in and think.... this ain't that bad.

That demo impression isn't bad (not great either).

I'm still hoping for the best. RAD made 2 of my favorite PSP games, so I feel pretty good they can deliver something great.

They first have to get people to buy it, and a whole bunch of negative previews online aren't doing them any favors. Specially for a game comming out the same month as a ton of other stuff that's getting much better early impressions, including another Ps4 exclusive.

It's hard to be hopeful about the game being good when all we have are words saying it's going to be good, while at the same time we have a ton of actual evidence that the game is nothing but a mediocre experience with amazing graphics.

Thx god of Bloodborne. The Only Ps4 exclusive (retail) that so far seems to not only be great looking but also fun to play

unless the story is cinema quality...Not really interested in that.

had fun with Heavy Rain, but I'd rather just watch a movie...

How many times are they going to let the press play that same demo, and how many times will press write about it. It's becoming a bit comical at this point, and I'm just expecting IGN's 4th article about it now.

OK, so they can't create different demo that show their game better, here's a suggestion: Don't show the goddamn old demo, it's only giving you bad press.

But they're not "showing" this demo really. Its just they have a bunch of games playable in booths and they have this demo there. Its not like they're holding dedicated preview events and showing off the same portion of the game. They just haven't made a new one and yet people just keep reviewing the same demo.

For all the negativity around the game, you have to admit it's nice of Sony to ship the antidote to this game in the same month.

Some games just demo very poorly (see: Wolfenstein). The Order demo in the OP has been circulating since before E3 and R@D+Sony haven't bothered making other segments available for demo because, well, just because. It's not easy taking a vertical slice out of your game and making it available for everyone to judge your final product by.

they have 100 people working on the game. that's certainly not bite-sized.

even if it were less than 100 peeps, the team size isn't indicative of the game's quality.

judging the game prematurely through that and concluding that the game can't be anything else but like beyond two souls are just powerfully stupid.

god of war 1 was made by 50 people. shadow of the colossus was made by 30 people. gran turismo 5 was made by 140 people. great games will come from any team size. i'd take any of these games made by fewer people over any of the 1000-person assassin's creed games.

Do you think The Order is just gonna flop? I'm kinda getting that feeling.

It probably won't flop. It actually has quite a bit of interest from the more casual crowd (at least from anecdotal evidence I've noticed). My friends who don't play many games outside of Cod and the usual actually thought this game looked good and was the most interesting thing out of E3. Not really representative of a lot but still.

But we don't have a ton of evidence, we have a single tutorial that's generated bad publicity that could easily be overshadowed by a really good demo. As others have said, they're a small team that doesn't have the luxury of being able to put out multiple demos for the press to play. You're free to do as you please, but I think it's a mistake to judge a game you've seen so little of. Is it weird that we've only seen such a short segment? Yeah, probably. But on the other hand, if that means RAD had the extra time needed to make their baby the best it can be, then I'm fine with that strategy.

Edit: You're right about Bloodborne. From the little I've been able to play, it seems like it'll be just as, if not more engaging than the Souls titles.

Like some have said already evil within and wolfenstein were both turning off the press before release and turned out to be good games. This game could and hopefully will turn out amazing.
