Valkyria Chronicles for PC [Nov 11, £14/20/$20, has all DLC, 60fps/1080p+, $14 GMG]

are the Japanese voices included?

not that the English VA was bad, but I'm just wishing for far too much here. This is already a great announcement and a very encouraging sign.

I just learned that you can do texture dumping/replacement with PPSSPP using DX9 backend and TexMod.

It would be pretty cool if when this game came out if people (I'm sure i'll probably try) looked into ripping the textures from the PC version of VC1 and porting relevant textures over to VC2 emulated.

The biggest sign of it being a handheld game when emulated are the super low res textures.

Hope that switching around the audio won't be too hard. Considering replacing some of the ingame music with the piano arrangement versions assuming the audio isn't in some arcane format.

So, I can't find where it says 1080/60. Only place I see that is in the thread title, can someone point me in the right direction?

man I guess that 14 is a great price, how is Sega's track record with PC games? from the thread title I can guess that it should be good since they are going 60fps/1080p

They are pretty solid. Sega even went back and fixed some of their few missteps recently.

Sega has been pretty good on the PC front lately. This port is looking real nice. I'm excited.

Their track record is generally very good. They even recently patched up their old Dreamcast games from a few years ago.

edit: damn it Grief, almost verbatim.

£14?! Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice.

60fps, 1080p, all the DLC, might as well call it the Game Of the Year 2010 Edition and be done with it. Here's to resurrecting the franchise on PC.
Let me dream

...wait a minute, 2010? VC came out earlier than that, didn't it?

Ordered off GMG with the coupon. Good price for a great game. Haven't replayed it at all, only went through it once on PS3 version but remember having a lot of fun with it.

Also just to keep people's expectations in perspective, the game is basically a launch ps3 game and barely looks better than some latter ps2 games!
It came like two years into the PS3's life (three into that generation of hardware period) and arguably still looks better than a lot of Japanese games that came out.

Well, I do need to give it another look, but this is also kind of a game that focused more on doing a visual style well rather than life like visuals, so that'll help it hold up better.

2008 game. Double checking it IS an early 2008 game for Japan (which kind of fits into being launch era, albeit barely) while late for the US, but at any rate no trophies and the original banner on the side. Demon's Souls and Uncharted 2 both came later in 2009, and the former had trophies while the latter had BOTH trophies and the new banner, so yeah.

Such a wonderful game. I wish I hadn't played it a couple months back along with the incredibly disappointing 3rd game. too burned out to buy this. But I might get it down the line just to show some support.

People seemed to really like the third, but I guess that's a mix of that import-only thing and the fact it went with a style more preferable than the school setting, which they certainly did not execute well at all. Eliminate both of those and it wouldn't surprise me if it turned out to be a weaker followup.

Oh yeah, the PC version will have Steam achievements, right? I wonder what they'll be.

There's a fan translation of the third game available if you ever want to try it out.

The magnificent art style is the Wind Waker of its generation. While other games have aged badly, VC still remains superb in its appearance.

The art is amazing. I was looking thru some of the screens and some of the backgrounds are pretty barren so maybe some ppl don't realise it's almost 10 years old!

I actually believe it is significantly worse than the second game. It heavily reuses maps from VCII to the point where when I stopped playing 10-15 hours in, I think I saw exactly 1 all-original map. All the customization that 2 allowed for -- which was pretty much the best argument VCII had for its smaller map sizes and monster hunter style gameplay format -- was stripped down into something way more simplistic.

Late reply but thanks! I couldnt see that on the steam app :)

So you are saying skip 2 and just play 3? I still haven't played it but I heard it drops the grinding and is structured more like VC1.

I think people who say the structure of VC3 is more like 1 than 2 are nuts.

The grinding is intact, there are just less customization options and thus less incentive to repeat missions for some dumb materials. But you're still forced to go through the same handful of maps for tens of hours at a time. The scenarios and enemy placement still feel like they were spit out by an algorithm.

My personal bet is that Sega sees Steam as a less risky investment, VC1 didn't exactly sell like hotcakes on a console originally, and it's a response to the PC petition.

I wouldn't mind seeing it for even more platforms, but I'm super happy this is coming to PC. That a niche PS3 title from 2008 is now getting an excellent PC port is still baffling me.

If only the Dragon's Dogma for PC petition I made some years ago could have been as successful, *sniff sniff*.

Capcom has been doing pretty damn good lately. We had an excellent port of RE4 this year and REmake release in early 2015.

I talk to their community manager on occasion and he always discusses the financials and pitfals to respective ports. They are always interested in doing goodwill projects such as these, but it generally comes down to funds and timing. Capcom prefers to use internal studios for new, more lucrative projects, and contract out to other studios for these older ports.

I'd be willing to discuss your petition if you like, not sure how much I can help especially as I'd be keeping #SEGAPCPorts my main focus for the near future. I was considering a potential Atlus effort after this SEGA one... but Dragon's Dogma wouldn't be a bad target either, we should consider some type of small scale poll amongst GAF's PC audience to gauge interest level. Like I said in the petition thread, I didn't think a SEGA PC ports petition could work at all until I saw the interest level Grief generated with his twitter push. We SEGA fans tend to think of ourselves as few in number though. I imagine Grief and Nillansan would also be open to discussions, based on my previous interactions with them both :)

Anyways, love the reaction folks. Looks like another good PC port from SEGA, still trying to get an answer on who is handling the port. I'm not sure if it'll be ok for me to discuss it publicly once I do find out but I'll keep you up-to-date as best I can.

Already bought all the DLC on ps3, gonna still buy this anyway!

Never finished this game or the sequel... prob got further in 2....

Aaaand bought. I played the demo waaaay back in the day and I always meant to buy the full game. If it helps Sega along in the process of getting Vanquish and Bayo on Steam then that's an added bonus.

Just an FYI folks, if you voted in the Golden Joysticks, you should have received a 25% off voucher for GMG. I just used mine and grabbed the game for $13.50. The code is personalized and I think one time use, so don't share yours unless you don't mind somebody using it up.

The #SegaPCPorts campaign needs to hit 20K signatures before the end of the year, I got some more giveaways lined up so hopefully that will help us reach our goal.

I am definitely up for another campaign of similar scale to #SegaPCPorts that targets Atlus or Capcom. Getting the Persona games or Dragon's Dogma on PC would be incredible, but let us discuss it early next year.

Was that voucher only for people who didn't get XCOM? I can't see any mention of a voucher from them in their emails.
