Too many games stuck on a console without emulation. At least with Skies, you can emulate the GC version quite well. Good luck tracking down a copy at a reasonable price though.

I have a dream, and it is to play Shenmue 1 and 2 on PC
and eventually 3

Probably gonna have to make my own petition for Capcom to do something about Okami

One of the reasons I am so passionate about PC ports is for game preservation. There are too many games that are stuck on consoles without or inaccurate emulation. A PC port essentially preserves that game for all time.

In 10 years, I might pull out my old Xbox and find I had a capacitor leak or disc rot. Where does that leave me? Even if Steam goes down permanently, or the industry moves away from x86 standard, I will still be able to find a way to play these games.

This is one of the best points and, unfortunately, one that too many forget.

Does anyone know if pre-load will be available for this game? Being 25gb it's gonna take me a day to download it...

Yea, the ranking system incited the player to coordinate a 'strategy' around ignoring enemies when possible and limiting your team tactics to efficient throughline progression with a few fast and OP characters for the best grades.

It caused me to drop the game entirely around launch due to how annoying it was. Clean sweep a map without any units getting injured or harmed? Enjoy your C-rank because you took a few extra turns planning that out!

Fell in love with VC1 years later after choosing to ignore the ranking system entirely and enjoy the combat on its own terms.

Does rank affect anything though or is it just e-dick material ?

Rank determines exp. It's kind of backwards, you get more exp if you play faster(/"better"). So if you are struggling and taking a long time to finish chapters, you get less exp, and will continue to struggle.

You can grind on skirmish maps though.

Higher rank means you get more money and experience. So, if you don't care about rank, you'll have to do more skirmishes to max your characters. Although, skirmishes is where you'll go to max your characters anyway so it's acceptable to play story mode as you like and A rank the skirmish modes that are designed for grinding.

Will support this game at full-ish (GMG) price to support future PC Sega releases/localization of their awesome games. Instead of that Miku shit anyways.

Quick pointer, the Fuck You Mode skirmishes are locked to New Game+, including Extreme difficulty DLC.

Also - Wonder what the save/load UI will look like, considering it used XMB for that on PS3.

iirc, the Japanese release on PS3 had a very nice in-game save dialog that fit in with the storybook theme, and there were some complaints when it was replaced with the XMB for the western release.

I am not expecting them to outright give credit to the #SegaPCPorts campaign without any official confirmation from Sega, but they could at least acknowledge the existence of the campaign in the article - something along the lines of oh hey this will please the crowd that petitioned for this exact game.

They did in the release date news article. I imagine people emailed/tweeted them furiously after the first article didn't.

I also imagine that since the petition didn't gain a ton of momentum, maybe the writer of the first news didn't know it existed. I don't know who you guys were trying to contact in the beginning. People also forget about stuff.

The good news is, aside from the obvious of course, is that the petition was directly linked to. Hopefully that means a boost in the signatures.

You can kill everything while taking no damage and still get an A rank on almost every mission in the game. Or every mission if you're on NG+.

On top of A ranks you also get bonus points for killing all leaders, tanks, and aces.

I already own Okami HD on PS3 I really really want this on PC, If you make the petition, I'm in!

I'm not sure this would be the case with that particular port, but keep in mind many of those PS2 to PS3 ports use proprietary Sony software to cut down on cost. That is why you see them exclusive to Sony platforms.

damn, just realized that I still have the japanese limited edition of the game sealed. it was collecting dust in a dark corner of the room.

Jason Kidd murdered my dog in cold blood!
I'm sure this has been talked about, but if you are a fan of the game, you need to get the art book. So great. Probably my favorite.

Finally got a voucher to work, now GMG can't seem to process any of my payment methods. Just ended up buying it on Steam. No wonder Valve controls so much of the PC market. GMG is a joke of a site.

There's a Wii version of Okami, isn't there?

Preordered! This will be mine, oh yes... I played it and loved it when I rented it on PS3 a long time ago. I never bought it though. I'm finally changing that.

I got it just fine on my end :V

Some CC company suspect GMG though, thankfully my bank's been a-OK with it for a year now.

Just wanted to say, I saw someone use the argument that they wouldn't have told me about the port if the petition wasn't responsible. Based on the wording it seems "they" are sega. My source wasn't a sega official though.

I don't really want to comment much on it outside of that but didn't want folks going around telling sites that "Sega" told me and some such.

Well, double-dipped for sure.

It kills me to see the game in my Steam library without being able to play it.

But, hey, 11 more days!

It certainly taught me a lot more than I ever intended to learn about Raita Honjou's fetishes.

Skies and Shenmue will both sell better on Steam, lacking the common grievances against NiGHTs HD's control flaws and JSR's traditional divisiveness. The world in Skies is plenty colorful, a helpful quality for a JRPG, and Shenmue looks pretty good now thanks to its detailed character models and world-building. Marketing the former as a classic in the vein of Trails in the Sky and the latter as an adventure game with suitable diversity could do SEGA a big favor.

Otogi has the From Software connection going for it—I hear it's excellent on its own merits—and JSRF is easier to control and dig into than its predecessor. That leaves Orta and After Burner Climax, two rail-shooters that wouldn't have much competition on the platform.

It was also ported to Wii though.

It's because GMG is European, if you're American you may need to call your bank before your card can be used to buy something from there. The first time I had used a CC (I use Paypal for it now though) I got the automated call from my bank asking if it was really me who made the purchase or if someone had stolen my card. Most payment problems with GMG just stem from the fact it's a European company so all charges made are purchases in Europe and not America.

What madness is this? Best game from the PS3 on my pc at glorious 3440x1440? Yes please. Thank you.

Hold yer horses, we have no confirmation on anti-aliasing settings yet. Although I'm sure there's AA, looks to be FXAA judging by the screenies. Hope that can be switched for MSAA.

I bought it straight at steam store because its S$18.00 ( 10% discount ) which is equivalent of ~13.99 USD.

I forgot to mention Steam accepting my country currency makes so many games a lot cheaper than their counterparts. Love it.

I don't think it's possible to tell that it's FXAA or anything else, considering the overall art style of the game.

Anyway, they pretty much confirmed arbitrary resolution support, and combined with the recommended specs that sounds like a recipe for 4k+ downsampling.

Hah, well, I'm alright with whatever they'll throw at us at this point anyway. Gotta hand it to their PR team for getting on it right away to at least assure us that the Signal doesn't need to be at the ready for this port. Only thing I have real concerns about is the tactical map - While it's safe to assume that it'll use the mouse, I just pray that the cursor is unlocked and follows normal mouse behavior like other strategy games on PC rather than the center-lock of the PS3 version. As for other menus, I guess I'm fine if they're WASD/arrowkeys based, but I have to admit mouseless menus annoy the hell out of me - Which in event of that thank god VC isn't big on huge and scrolling lists for the most part.

Anyone have some tips for evangelizing this once the Halloween sale is over? It seems my friendslist is chock full of people more willing to plop $60 down on an unproven game or conversely $2.50 on the Five Nights at Freddy's fad than $18 on nigh-uncontested greatness.

Interesting

Always looking forward to adding another quality console game ported to my Steam library.

I enjoyed Last Remnant and Trails in the Sky.

Valkyria Chronicles will be a welcome addition.
