Wouldn't 900p footage running at 720p remove some of the blurryness and make the game look better?

To be honest it's extremely hard to make any educated judgment on visuals based on this video or the screens in the OP.

We can comment on performance, which seems iffy based on this footage but it's entirely expected that at least one patch will iron things out.

what? we can actually already see the differences and know for certain. There are more buttons for traversal, a traversal up and traversal down system. There is a gif going around of a large fight occurring and you get swarmed fast, no taking on an army of guards on your own anymore. Of course, this brings in the skill system..you can spec yourself for combat, but then it takes away from your stealth and what not. Missions are more complex and open ended now. You dont just fail a mission if you dont do what the game wants exactly..

sorry, but it just sounds like you dont know what you are talking about and have jumped on the hate bandwagon surrounding this game

Of course. Because they are 720p videos, compressed in Facebook's shitty player. By their very nature they are masking any and all problems of a nature people are complaining about in screenshots from this thread.
 
Looks like shit and nowhere close to what was revealed. Should have been 1080p at least on PS4. Never believe UBI trailer footage. I can see The Division will be the next disappointment in terms of visuals at least.
 
I'm holing out hope that there is a day one 1080p patch. If Ubisoft knows it's possible then hopefully they'll give it the AC4 treatment.
 
Unity is more advanced than Black Flag. But render resolution affects IQ too much. Every new step in advanced graphics needs more resolution to show the new fine details. High quality textures will be converted into unnecessary because low screen resolution can't show enough texels. 60 fps can show doubled pixels than 30 fps in one second so playing at 30 you will lose a lot more graphic info. I think at the end I prefer a perfect IQ and framerate with baby steps in rest of graphics tech.

Not if you are watching it full screen. It would look worse...By that logic it might look even better down sampled to 480p...It will look better than 720p though, if it is down sampled from 900p to 720p, not 900p.

That looks magnificent. Ubisoft did a great job on the PC version of Black Flag as far as graphics are concerned.

They did a great job on the PS4 version too. It doesn't look far off from those screenies.

WTH is happening here with Unity?
 
I don't really care about the game being 900p if the framerate is as solid as it was on both AC4 and Watch Dogs on PS4.

Those facebook videos weren't very promising in that regard though.

You guys are talking about running 900p on a 720p display. But this is likely a 900p game upscaled and output at 1080p that is captured, then encoded at 720p. Any blur from the scaling will still be present.
 
I know the lighting is baked in, but it looks absolutely stunning.

Can't wait to play this on PC. I'm sure the performance will be shit, though.
 
Ubisoft's decision to limit Unity on PS4 to 900p really shows in how blurry and smeary it looks. In other words, it looks like shit. It's that reason alone why I won't buy this game.

Actually, that is what I was trying to say. Sorry if I wasn't clear. If your monitor is running 1080p native, and you run a video of a game down sampled from 900 to 720p it is not going to look better than something running at 900p
 
I've completely lost my interest in this game after all the parity BS.
Who knows they might release 1080p day one patch but I don't think it's going to happen.
 
If the framerate really is like that in the final version. (dipping in the 20's)

I think I'm going to pass, I'm over that shit.

I second that. Playing RE6, Tomb Raider, Dark Souls Series and some other games at 1080p/60FPS feels like a completly new experience on PC compared to console. It's like playing the full version whilst the console counterparts are somewhat the alpha or beta version. The art and the gameplay really start to shine.

I do think console developers know that, since we get all these 1080/60 remakes. TLOU was just one year old - why should ND have bothered with making a remake if they were fine the first version. Cash in, obviously, but no one would've bought if the jump would not have been significant.

Anyway, casual gamers and marketing departements longing for more shaders is WAY higher than the demand for clean IQ, native res and 60FPS. Why? Casual gamers/gaffers don't know any better because they are getting fed the same shit for years now and are just fine with it. Marketing doesn't bother because they sell mostly through bullshots, touched up trailers and TV ads. Obviously, IQ and framerate don't play any role in that process.

It's just fair that console gamers get games like Unity. They voted with their wallet and marketing listened.
 
I wonder if it's on purpose... the screenshots look like they are trying to go for a painting look to them.

But if that wasn't purposely supposed to be the art style... wow. Even I can notice it (and I'm really not that picky at all).

Ah well, not like I really intend to get this game. I'm over Assassin's Creed. There's a lot better games out there (With far better controls).

Screw the parity. 1080p patch please

AFAIK, the AA of AC IV actually improved with the resolution patch, as observed by DF. So it was not only a jump from 900p to 1080p, but also better AA coverage.

Ubisoft's use of a new post process anti-aliasing solution is also quite subtle, failing to make itself known via a sea of overly smooth edges and imposing texture blur. However, there is a clear improvement, with the main benefits revolving around reducing the amount of shimmering on foliage and fine details, although these elements are still not immune from obvious jaggies in some scenes.

I can't really speak for combat, but I do know that traversal has a dedicated decent button so you no longer have to go searching for a pile of hay from the rooftops. Instead just hold the B button and Arno will naturally climb downwards off any point.

Stealth also has a dedicated stealth button instead of contextual stealth. This allows Arno to crouch and lean against cover. This is a pretty huge improvement actually.

I dunno what exactly was changed with combat, but they said that you can no longer simply counter every enemy for success.

That being said, it doesn't really mean shit if it's dipping in the 20's constantly. I really thought we were done with that shit.
