Evolve Big Alpha Impressions/bugs/glitches thread

Not too sure what to make of this response.

No point in beating a dead horse, read through the thread and you'll get why some people are drawing comparisons between Evolve and L4D Vs. It really isn't worth continually re-hashing, it is rather obvious that some people fully disagree with the observation...no biggy.

I thought the framerate was a bit wonky on pc and messed with the settings and it still felt off. I ran fraps and the framerate is fine. It is almost like a stutter I guess? Does anyone notice this?

I've noticed input lag eventhough Vsync is turned off.

Tried it, fun concept, framerate is kind of jittery though. Like I'm on an overclocked 2500k, with GTX 780, and 16GB of RAM, and STILL had the framerate all over the place.

I think the maps need more random events. So for example, maybe a ship crashes on the map and it gives the hunters a hefty bonus if they camp there for a bit, but it can also be destroyed by the monster. And vice versa.

Or they could place another monster NPC on the map that also bestows a massive bonus to the team that downs him. Or other hunters that are aggro against everybody. Nuclear waste that lets the monster trade health for abilities. Or a dozen other things. If both sides can be made aware of these things on the map it creates an interesting meta. I'm not sure why they L4D team is playing it so safe with map events.
They kind of do with the elite wildlife. If you kill them you can get a buff. It is good to get buff for yourself but it is also good to keep that buff away from your opponent. The best buff for the monster is the health regen and I believe it is attached to some particularly nasty wildlife.

I think you're lacking VRAM. I see that the game eat up all of my R9 290 Vram, which is 4gb and that's on very high/1080p/smaa tx1.
But the thing is it runs pretty well at 60FPS. Rarely drop below 55fps.

Speaking of 60FPS, why is the game locked to 60FPS? Even on menus it's capped at exactly 60. I have a 144hz monitor and VSync off, I should be able to use it!

dammit!! is the PS4 ALPHA still postponed??? i was hoping after a hard as work day it be available, i need something to distract the pain of my legs

Need a patch to fix so you can actually play with friends.. This is just annoying. Have barely been able to play the game during the whole alpha.

I don't know why either !
But I think in some loading screens, it goes beyond 60fps... could be the counter being wrong or because of the loading itself...

So the most frustrating part for us is finding the monster initially. We are generally fine once we can find the monster, but we often spend the first 10 minutes just wondering around aimlessly.

I'm only around 10 matches into this (and I seem to always get forced to play the monster, the one thing I don't want to play / that is last in my priority) but I have a question: why would the hunters ever leave the relay? (Maybe other than to deal some easy early damage.) Can the monster win in any other way besides destroying the relay? Downing the whole enemy team?

That was the dilemma I was facing at evolve level 3 when the hunters were camping at the relay and I had no reason to go there because they would just beat the crap out of me but they also had no reason to go anywhere else, just camp the relay at the best possible location, waiting for me to go there to trap me, and kill me.

I really enjoy playing any of the hunters but maybe that's because they always win (whether I'm playing the monster or not).

Not feeling it at all unfortunately.

Feels too much like a FPS version of Monster Hunter with no really fun classes. Is there a disincentive for the monster to run away the whole time? Seems like they could just stall out the game as long as it wants (which seems to happen every game I've been in so far.)

Since everyone I know seems to own XCOM, I don't think I'll be needing these extra codes. Go nuts if you need them:

Hmm are the servers borked on Xbox 1? Been staring at a spinning red circle after I pick my preference.

I believe after a while a timer appears that gives a victory to the hunters if the monster can't destroy it in time.

Its much easier to kill the monster during stage 1 or 2. Plus it saves time and sitting at the relay the whole round would be boring. And dealing with a level 3 monster that has full health because you never attacked it would be difficult.

If you're at level 3 you should be able to take on the team fairly easily. Hell even at level two they should be manageable. I won one game at level 2 and the next game I almost won at level 2 as well, but when I killed the last two people the dropship timer finished just in time to save them all. Which was extremely frustrating and makes me hate the respawn mechanic >.<;;

Finally got a game!
Not quite sure what I was doing.
Monster killed us after 8 minutes.
I think I enjoyed it.
Can't get a second game, just that spinning red circle.
I haven't got time for this.
Alpha is not leaving a good impression on me.
I hope they have a beta or demo or something closer to release.
Right now, I don't think I'm in a buying mood.

Loved the rounds I did as a Monster and Support
Not sure on the lasting presence of the game though, the concept is fucking fantastic, but it must have more variables to make the games fun in the long run.

Also performance, I'm playing with a 280X with everything maxed and SMAA T2X, Framerate is ok, but I get some weird jumps at times where I should not have any jumps. I'll discard this issues as an Alpha problem

after 20min time limit the hunters win automatically.

Because if they don't leave the relay then they are just letting the monster hit level 3 with full armor and possibly a buff on top of that. While the players could still win in that situation the odds would be against them.

With permanent health loss for the monster and death penalty strikes against the players, the game is set up to encourage multiple encounters between the players and the monster. For the monster it makes sense to attack the players right before an evolve since evolving removes all your armor anyway. If you can down a player or two causing them to get the death penalty, and get out with taking any health damage then you are weakening them for future battles.

For the players it makes sense to chase and attack the monster to try to kill it before it gets too powerful or to at least permanently take away some of its health so that when it does reach higher levels it will be easier to kill.

I think part of the problems with boring games comes from the fact that players who play the monster don't know enough about the game to stage effective ambushes or even realize the benefits of doing so.

FYI, great guide for the game here:

Maybe I've just been playing against bad monsters, but it's never taken more than 2 or 3 minutes to find the thing at first. You're either going to have tracks to follow, or if the monster was sneaking right away, you've got Daisy to help. Breaking up into groups of two helps if you still have trouble finding it.

Been tring to enter PC codes left and right from diverse sources. Everything is so taken that now steam is temporary stopping me from trying codes due to so many failures...

Giving Beta Keys like this is so fucking stupid, they should just open that shit to everyone and be done with it. I feel like I'll never be able to try it.

I still don't actually understand why this isn't available on PS4 yet, a couple people are having issues with 2.0 so they pull the plug on the whole thing?

You've got mail.

Thought I would try the PC version (since I own X-Com and the PS4 version was delayed) but when I click the game after installing it says "Preparing to launch evolve" then does nothing.

Not very impressed so far.

Also I'm wondering, do we know what is the framerate on Xbox One and PS4 versions ?
I think the devs said they were targeting 60fps but I dont remember much.

OK, played another game as a healer, liked that, kind of knew what I was doing healing people and what not.
At the start of each game I've played we kill a big monster, but that's not the real monster?
Is that right?
What is that monster at the beginning?

The longest match I had was with Grief, and even with friends, it's still really bad.

The weapons and items are great ideas but horribly executed. The maps are too small for the idea of a hunt. And the fights with the monster itself end way too quickly instead of being spaced out.

Way disappointed, as the SDCC demo was amazing.

You're actually spreading out and not just trying to follow as a group?

Game is pretty fun and I play a decent monster but playing with my friends in a party means I can never ever be the monster and for some reason no matter how i put my preferences I am always medic.

The monster can be hilariously strong in the right hands and when a team does not quite understand their roles.
The monster can also be hilariously bad if the player doesn't know what he is doing.

I wouldn't mind playing this on voice chat with a few people.

How different was that demo?

Played my first two games as the monster and managed to win both. I really like the maps. I haven't learned any of them inside and out yet, but the size seems just right. You have enough room to roam around and feel like you're in a sizable jungle, but they're just small enough that you know the hunters are always nearby.

Played pc version. Love the concept - fps may cry though especially during monster fight - looks like I am at a point where I will need to upgrade. Radeon hd 7850 2 GB won't cut it and my processor isn't really worth mentioning lol.

Played a total of 4 matches and lost once. Won as assault on 3 games and lost as support lol

Its a alpha. Not a open beta.

I just played against a Level 15 Kraken player. We were all doing callouts and damaging him yet, when the round ended, we had only just got his shield down. da fuq

Great game, played with 4 friends (hunters) and i was the monster, i always won, the only problem at least for me was the poor performance, im pretty sure my vga it's getting old

I wouldn't be too worried about it. Optimization is generally the last part of development and Nvidia/AMD probably haven't released driver level fixes as of yet.
