Evolve Big Alpha Impressions/bugs/glitches thread

i tried playing three games last night. it took an hour. first game, we land, monster still there. we shoot him, he moves two feet, lags backwards, then we kill him. game over, within 45 seconds.

second game, black screen. can't do siht, gotta reboot. gg

third game, only 3 players join. two of us and a monster. I joke about how my previous game the monster didn't even move. Monster player laughs and agrees that sucks. We land, monster doesn't move. we kill it. 30 seconds gg.

evolve. loading: the game. maybe 90 seconds of gameplay in over an hour. :(

On PC with some strange performance problems. Getting a great framerate, but it freezes on me constantly, and sometimes for 10 seconds straight...

Played a handful of matches as Trapper. Loving it so far. Although I'm not super clear on what triggers the rope harpoon trap things. I've seen the monster walk right over one and it didn't trigger.

I will be there for sure, however it is going to be some downage. guaranteed.

Pllaying the game it has the potential to be really fun if everyone knows what they are doing. Right now I really like playing the monster but I still have yet to lose.

Well I lost once as a monster because I got a weird glitch where I had no body I was only a camera with pretty much one hit point. Hunters could not see me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOxk1NoFBqc

More random impressions

Also they really.. really need to get rid of these perks. It just rewards players that have played more.

10% more damage? Come on and there's a 3 star to this perk so I guess it would end up with 15%. I currently use the movement perk because it makes your sneak speed faster and finding the monster faster. I think it would help a lot if the hunters sprinted faster, faster movement in general I'm not too sure on.

Also I don't like that you can level up your skills 3 times and not get anything else. Even your base monster you can use level 3 skills beat most elite wildlife. Just rock throw into 1-2 hits.

Lastly, they should give you more tools to track the monster. There's stuff like falling trees or maybe the monster broke something while going by. The sizes of the maps contain the monster well enough but if it wasn't for the birds helping you, you'd never find it.

I had that bug once...

I would say no, but compromise perhaps?

I get annoyed that every time I eat the hunters are alerted to me. (but again it keeps the game tense as they are on your tail)

- Weaken the birds aid to hunters
>Delay birds circling over corpses & wait till monster leaves the corpse.
>make the interface not give such precise locations of the monster.
> perhaps take 3-5 flocks of birds off the ground around the map?

< Take Daisy(pet) off weapons and abilities circle (make it standalone)
< Give Hunter Sound sensors or some tracking ability
- Perhaps that ability be:
- < Ship scans the area (flies in with huge spotlight and searches for monster & would find him unless is under something.) doubt would be done but would be neat.
- < Sound sensors ( if the monster makes noise (not sneaking around them) will trip the alarm.

Nice idea no?

Those are all greats ideas. I like the idea of leaving traps/sensors a lot.

Edit: I haven't played as the other trapper yet, I'm unsure if they have different traps

I think the trapper is great as it is tbh. Maybe make some interactivity with the dog but other than that I think they have the most important tools in the early game out of the 4 default hunters.

Preformance is pretty iffy right now (lots of drops) but it's really fun other than that. I've only played one match, so my impressions aren't too detailed at the moment.

Some pc codes enjoy :)

Thanks mon. But I was looking for someone that managed to grab the $6.00 price mistake thing from yesterday(?). If someone has any spare copies, please let me know. I shall buy you something in return for Evolve.

I was able to get into my first game fairly quickly before noon today on the X1. Played as the assault class. The match lasted about 15 minutes before we killed the monster. The monster had evolved to level 2. Most of the match was spent chasing after the monster. It was okay I guess, I'll probably play some more matches before the Alpha ends.

the medic is also the fucking sniper
into the trash it goes

guess i'll play support unless there's other medic characters planned ?
The medic probably shouldn't be on the frontlines anyway.

A lot of people on the PC have some experience from the earlier alpha. Playing monster is hard. Seems like the best strategy is to take out the support or medic and then the trapper but it's hard to tell the classes apart during combat.

I think that was a smart idea and it works. The medic has some really good debuffs to use.

Also, making what is normally the solo player, a team player, is genius.

we'll see how it goes in pubs, the idea is nice but my fear is bad players will monopolize vital medic roles instead but then again it doesn't concern me that much since i'll be the medic most of the time

You know you can unlock different characters right?

nope, didn't know that
where can i see other characters and their loadout ?

This game is gonna suck for you if you're playing with randoms. Playing hunters requires teamwork and communication.

I thought the framerate was a bit wonky on pc and messed with the settings and it still felt off. I ran fraps and the framerate is fine. It is almost like a stutter I guess? Does anyone notice this?

Seeing as how I can't actually play the alpha, on account of the PS4 version being postponed, I have one question:

Does it feel like Left 4 Dead?

And I'm not talking about the obvious differences with the specific classes, nor the fact that it's a lone monster that the player can eventually make stronger. I'm talking about the actual feel of the game. Is it more L4D, or a, for lack of a better term, "modern" FPS?

It feels nothing like left for dead, it doesn't feel like a standard fps either though it's totally unique, I'm struggling to wrap my head around it though, it feels very limited and one dimensional and every round plays the same. It's very samey but it may just be because it the beta.

Just had my first win as the monster. Took like 2 or 3 losses before I got a win. But I guess 1 doesn't really count since I joined part way through and had to take over the monster from bot mode and I still did alright.

Here are some tips (killing the trapper breaks the arena):
If you're stuck in the arena:
1. try to lead them around and use cover to avoid damage, climb up things and hide behind big rocks. They don't have unlimited fuel.
2. when they group up while chasing, use charge or the jump skill to stun them
3. if possible, focus on the trapper because once you down the trapper, the arena drops
4. save your leaps for when you are tranquilized and mix in the charge/slam skill to get away. I once got a slam that got me extra far because it leapt off a cliff down a ravine

When you're committed to fighting, you want to avoid attacking the trapper due to the harpoons. You want to focus on killing the support and I think at stage 2 (definitely at stage 3) you can outdamage the healer. But you can't outdamage the shields since they make them invulnerable (blue shields/beams = shields vs green = healing)

I think it can be viable to go after the trapper while fighting if you're domed. While he is being annoying laying traps, it can be a very good player to go after assuming the medic/support isn't on top of helping them, and AoE attacks can disrupt the whole team(especially on higher elevations).

Any time you down someone is a pretty big win, since they come back with a health penalty, and that is permanent. Down them twice, a bigger one. Third time is instant death(like L4D), and when they come back that double penalty is still in play. It's really useful to get these strikes on the trapper and medic.

Game is totally saying my NAT is strict.
Might be why I can't find a match very quickly, but I have no idea how to fix it.

How does someone figure out how to play this game?

The other trapper sounds up his alley since he lays down sound spikes that have a pretty huge range around the map.

I kinda think they should have started you with him instead of maggie. Way too many people are relying soley on following Daisy which ultimately is a losing strategy.

Yes it does.

Not too sure what to make of this response.

Thanks for some clarification, although it sounds like they might not have been able to fully realize the unique concept that they were aiming for. I like the idea of a team of players tracking a monster through different environments, but unless implemented properly, it has a lot of potential to fall flat. Or one dimensional, like you mentioned. Hopefully it's just the constraints of the alpha, and not a reflection of the final product.

I'll keep my hype in check, so as to avoid another Destiny situation.

damnnn the adrenaline rush when playing as the monster is so good. My heart is still beating after playing for around an hour.

Playing monster is hard. Seems like the best strategy is to take out the support or medic and then the trapper but it's hard to tell the classes apart during combat.

I want to add that when playing as monster, when you initially spawn you need to MOVE. I was figuring out the controls for the monster for ~20 seconds and the hunters were already on me. Round was over in like 2 minutes.

Yeah, fuck this Alpha on PC. Constant freezing/Unfreezing.

I think it might be a VRAM issue, because it's trying to use more than my 2GB that I have.

Some serious performance issues with PC version here.

I get massive drops every few secs... unplayable. I'm playing on very high gtx 680.

I'm running at max settings on a 770 4gb, which is a comparable card and running smooth as butter.

I had a key for Xbox One but gave it out because I don't have access to my XB1 right now.

Should've traded it for a PC key...

There's about 90 PC keys you can grab if you go back a page or two.

I think the maps need more random events. So for example, maybe a ship crashes on the map and it gives the hunters a hefty bonus if they camp there for a bit, but it can also be destroyed by the monster. And vice versa.

Or they could place another monster NPC on the map that also bestows a massive bonus to the team that downs him. Or other hunters that are aggro against everybody. Nuclear waste that lets the monster trade health for abilities. Or a dozen other things. If both sides can be made aware of these things on the map it creates an interesting meta. I'm not sure why they L4D team is playing it so safe with map events.
