Has 343 Industries redeemed themselves with Halo:MCC

The console FPS KING has returned. This was an amazing plan and will sell shit load of Halo 5 next year.

I can't wait.

No, because they've been adamant that they have not changed the gameplay from the original... which means this gives me no more confidence that they can develop a good Halo game. After what they did with Halo 4, which I played for all of a week, they really have to do well with Halo 5 to get my trust back. Definitely waiting for reviews.

From the H5 MP beta trailer, it's evident they have acknowledged that a lot of the things was not for the best, and decided to return to a more balanced arena style shooter.

343 said that Halo 4 was going to be a "return to the roots". We all know how that turned out. They have only said Arena MP for the Beta. We have no idea what they will do for everything else in the game.

To be fair, the only thing that was said about Halo 4 was "One of the key things with Halo 4 is going back to what made it amazing for people playing the first Halo," - Stephen McGill.
That could mean anything, something as simple as the "fun" found in Halo CE, or yes indeed, it returning to its roots.

Unless I'm missing something else they said, its pretty evident that they did the complete opposite of that entire roots thing, so I'm just going to throw them a bone and assume that they either meant something else, or decided to try something new and see if it works. I honestly doubt they would do the same thing they did in h4 because of all the comments made by frankie.

I don't know, what did you think of H4?

Gimme the remaining 19 Halo 2 maps with updated Anniversary visuals please.

As much as an amazingly unprecedented deal and package the MCC is, I'm still annoyed that only six of the Halo 2 maps got remastered. Watching the game play of those maps and then classic Halo 2 maps is night and day difference. It just feels incomplete

Sure. Certain Affinity is a small team. Even six maps was hard to do. But they couldn't get another team, or even folks at 343 to give the remaining maps the proper treatment? It just seems off and inconsistent to me.

DLC maybe? Please? I'd pay for it.

I wouldn't mind them going out and exploring new ideas for Multiplayer in Halo 5, as long as they kept classic playlists that play like Halo 2 and 3.

A massive disappointment. After Reach and all the bitching, I thought 343 would realize, "Hey, people don't like this crap!", but nope! They doubled down on the crap in MP, and stuck to their guns about it.

Campaign was short and really uninteresting, however I did enjoy how they tackled the Chief and Cortana relationship.

Spartan Ops was really, really, boring.

Forge missed a bunch of features, and theater was almost non-existent, along with the custom games.

Sure, graphics are good, and the music is amazing, but everything else was either utter shit, or just a massive disappointment.

I would like the option of purchasing Halo 5 within the Master Chief Collection with the new Halo 5 playlists seamlessly integrated into MCC (for those who also purchased Halo 5 in MCC)

Haha, came here to post the same exact thing. Halo 4 was the only Halo where I actually wanted to finish the campaign. Great game.

You guys like fighting the robot dogs? Think daedact was a compelling villain?

I am not saying it was shit by any means, but the enemies were not nearly as fun to fight as previous games, I had no idea why I was fighting elites again, and the story overall didn't make any sense to me (and i have read 3 or 4 of the halo books).

The game is like 70GB already. Chill

And what, grunts were sophisticated fighting machines? If anything the "robot dogs" offered more of a challenge than grunts, with their different forms (sniper one shit kill on legendary), fast movements and climbing the walls.

The prometheans were difficult, I don't understand the complaints about them. But yes I do miss elites.

lol, porting a collection of games doesn't make a developer awesome. Halo 4 was awful compared to bungies games and pretty much ruined the franchise.

You are the king of hyperbole.

I didn't mind halo 4, looking forward to MCC and can't wait to see halo 5.

They don't really need redeeming.

4 was a breeze and super short. It also had no "awesome" section besides the Broadsword section in the final mission. 2 is superior.

2 was shit campaign wise, with only levels like Delta Halo and The Great Journey being good. But nothing approaching the best CE had to offer. Halo 4 was far better in that regard. Just amazing how much shit 343 gets for one game, their first. I know of develpoers who have delivered a multitude of mediocre games and shit sequels that don't get half the shit they do over their one game.

Halo 4's laggy co-op put me off. It was the first Halo game i only played through normal once and then never touched it. If they have fixed that then they're more than half way redeemed for me. At least then I can just experience the game properly.

I have a lot of faith MCC will be godlike.

Yet I don't have any faith in Halo 5.

But I like Halo 4, is there something wrong with me?

Halo 5 will be their time to impress. Maybe they'll knock it out of the park too, but MCC is an amalgamation of Bungie's creative work, not 343s to claim as redemption.

That was by far the worst part of the story. Making Cortana seem so vulnerable and really pushing her as a love interest for the Chief was extremely cringe-worthy. It's like a sci-fi action variant of the movie Her.

They did an excellent job with MCC, however 1-3 obviously weren't their game. 4 was and is responsible for the down fall of the series.

So not really.

Halo 5 is where they will have to impress me. I'm hoping they see some of the things that are making people go crazy for MCC, and implement it in 5.

No. Making Halo 5 a much better game than Halo 4 would redeem them in my eyes. Remastering someone else's work does nothing to change my opinion of 343.

Yeah this is the only thing that really disappoints me. It's Halo 2 Anniversary. So remake Halo 2, all of it.

The MCC doesn't matter, what matters is if they do a good job on HL5. Porting/updating old games doesn't 'redeem' 343i for making a bad Halo. Only making a good Halo can do that.

The love and effort that appears to have gone into hmcc (vidoc)shows they are the right team to move this franchise forward while realizing what made it so great

Is there a proper 1080p download of the documentary? All those youtube vids are upscaled fakes.

I think streaming from xbox video is the only option for 1080p at the moment. They have said they will be uploading it on their youtube channel.

I enjoyed Halo 4, it must have been difficult picking up somebody elses baby like that. Technically they did nail it, it looks much better than Reach and for me is the top of the last gen tree graphics wise, looks far better than a 360 should manage.

How can releasing other peoples games be a redemption? Wouldn't the decision to do the collection be more a MS thing, too? And that does line up with MS doing everything it can lately.

Anyway. Didn't think 4 ruined the series or anything myself, but 5 is the real test. But my problem there is I have less than zero interest in buying an Xbone. There's just too many other factors against it. Wonder if its true for other casual fans.

I'm endlessly hyped for the MCC, but I have absolutely zero confidence in 343i's ability to make Halo 5. Nothing about the MCC redeems 343i's ability to make a quality entrance into the Halo franchise, which will be what actually "redeems" them. Only Halo 5 can do that. And given the liberties they're taking with the remade multiplayer maps? I'm still not sold on their ability to do so.

I do not know why 343i has to redeem themselves? (They do tho) Halo 4 was a incredible good shooter. Yes. If we compared it to Bungie's efforts, it only out does Halo: Reach and Halo 2's SP. It does not have the quality of Halo: CE, Halo 3, ODST or Halo 2's MP, but it was their first game. Getting a studio together and unifying them is hard task, so I can see why Halo 4 has the flaws.

At the end, they had been following the path, Bungie had started to carve with Reach and continued with Destiny, but saw it was the complete wrong decision to make. (if its believed what they say in their Halo 5 GamesCom video.) If Bungie did another Halo, it would be even worse than Halo 4. (Look at Destiny's competitive side)

343i is doing a incredible risk with releasing the MCC. If Halo 5: Guardians does not appeal to the crowd, people will just boot the Master Chief Collection and play their favourites Halo game. Yes. 343i is 'redeeming' themselves with this bold move.

They remade half a game and ported 3 more.
Saber Interactive made Halo 2: Anniversary graphics. Sequence is doing Halo 2 Anniversary's terminals. Certain Affinity makes the multiplayer. Ruffian Games is porting Halo: CEA, Halo 3 and Halo 4 to Xbox One. 343i coordinated all this, did the net code and the UI of MCC and re-did the 2's music and sound effects. It would not be possible without 343i, so they did tremendous effort with the MCC and it will move system for Microsoft. Tons of people are excited to get the game.

Never once did I feel Cortana was Chief's love interest. Just seemed like 2 characters who really cared for each other. Don't know what gave you that idea. Cortana has always been 'vulnerable' even in Halo 3.

I can't wait for MCC to launch but I still haven't forgotten what 343i once did to this beautiful franchise. MCC is a great package but it doesn't make up for anything imo.

I'm still fearing for how Halo 5 will turn out. That's 343i chance to redeem themselves.

No. They didn't learn and added stupid multiplayer achievements.

The one thing they SHOULD have copied form CoD. No multiplayer achievements. Christ.

This is going to sound weird, but I think a lot of the problems with Halo for me is to do with the design choice they have gone for. With Halo Ann and Halo 2 A, halo 3 and halo 4. The atmosphere in these games don't feel like halo.

I was watching a twitch stream of halo Ann and halo 2 Ann and the guy was flipping backwards between old and new. I feel the old looks much better, the atmosphere those games had was cool as fuck, dark and mysterious and it was based around arena-game style buildings which was also cool as fuck.

Now it's all bloom and brightness and fuck knows but it doesn't feel like halo, they're still good games, but I just miss the halo 1 and 2 art direction.

Redeeming themselves? No way.

Seems like 343 are adopting the George Lucas approach to franchise development - churn out maximum content with an apparent active distain for quality control.

H4 was an insult to the community they inherited. That web series was an embarrassment, and I have little hope that the new one will be any better.

Have no doubt that MCC will be a wonderful time, especially the PvP, but there's something cheap and nasty about the whole thing. Something forced and awkward.

Ask yourself this: would Bungie have released this package?

God damn MP achievements!

MCC is RUINED!

What are you on about?

How could you possibly get the feeling that it is "cheap and nasty"?

Also, FUD was great. Especially considering it had quite a small budget.

As for Bungie releasing it, probably.
