Has 343 Industries redeemed themselves with Halo:MCC

MCC is an amazing apology.

"We messed up Halo CE Anniversary, so here is Halo 1-3, including the multiplayer running in 1080p/60fps but otherwise unchanged for the purists."

"We messed up Halo 4, but at least now you get to try all the multiplayer content without being splintered by the DLC."

"We know you have doubts on our ability to make Halo 5's multiplayer, so try the included Beta and give us feedback."

They messed up Halo CE? Thats news to me...

You are out of your mind.

I hope some of you go back and play halo 4 when the MCC comes out and realize how stupid you sound.

Halo 4 is the my favourite Halo. Had some of the most fun multiplayer moments across the entire series in that game. And the campaign is awesome. Sure, not Halo 3 levels of awesome. But awesome nonetheless. Look at Metacritic; a lot of well-known voices share that sentiment.

People ought to bear in mind that this was their first game ever.

Unless you are also a fan of campaigns in Halo games. In which case, Reach shits all over 4's generic, uninspired and forgettable campaign. I think I played through 4's campaign twice and I hated every moment of it. The only Halo campaign I've played that's in the single digits. Absolutely awful in every way bar the graphics.

I completely disagree about it being absolutely awful.

I actually enjoyed it far more than Reach.

Destiny is still better than Halo 4 and I like Halo 4

Ehhh, nope.

Go play SWAT on Haven and say that again with a straight face.

What's wrong with Swat on Haven?

A lot of people have rightly mentioned that porting over three of Bungie's games doesn't have any impact on their standing in the eyes of gamers. A point with which I readily agree. Also, the 20 GB day one patch is a sharp poke in the eye.

I was one of the people who was disappointed in the Halo 4 release. The multiplayer was a significant departure from what we've enjoyed from the series in the past and the story and new enemies did not keep my interest at all. I never finished the game. The graphics, however, were very well done.

As far as talking about the collection, the package as it exists is neat, but I dream of a real remastered game that they just aren't willing to spend the time or money to do. With Halo 4 level or better assets for all the games, redone cutscenes and maps also. The option to use any map with any game's version of multiplayer. If they had made this game I might have bought it. But they needed to get a huge sales bump for the platform now, and so this is all the game they have time to make, which is a shame.

Redeeming themselves? No way.

Seems like 343 are adopting the George Lucas approach to franchise development - churn out maximum content with an apparent active distain for quality control.

H4 was an insult to the community they inherited. That web series was an embarrassment, and I have little hope that the new one will be any better.

Have no doubt that MCC will be a wonderful time, especially the PvP, but there's something cheap and nasty about the whole thing. Something forced and awkward.

Ask yourself this: would Bungie have released this package?

As someone who has played over 30 hours of MCC already, the answer is yes.

In general terms, it was such a smart move to release MCC - it shows players that 343 have learned from their mistakes with Halo 4, they understand that the community want a proper Halo game for Guardians, and by releasing MCC it reinforces this message.

Get people back on side again by releasing MCC, then hit them with an awesome game in the shape of Guardians. Winning.

I feel like they didn't have to redeem themselves. Sure, Halo 4 was disappointing, but it was far better than what Bungie put out with Halo:Reach. You could certainly tell that Bungie didn't put their heart into that game.

.

SO MUCH THIS.

I loved all the Halo's except for 4. I beat all of them on legendary except 4. 4's enemies were bullet sponge's and the story was convulted. I read most of the novels so I knew what was happening but I feel for the people that only played the games.
I actually enjoyed Reach alot. Some of the mechanics for MP was bad but I loved the story.

Were they smart for releasing this? Absolutely. Redeemed, though? No. Not at all. You have to judge them on their own games, not somebody elses. We'll see how Halo 5 looks.

I don't think they have fully redeemed themselves. But, they are creating a lot of goodwill with a good portion of the Halo community. Halo 5 Guardians MP will decide if they are redeemed, since I think they already have the campaign side down.

I don't think 343 needs redeemed. Halo 4 was a great game and a great Halo game. MCC is just a nice looking gap filler till we get 5.

Gap filler?

343i better hope H5 goes back to it's roots or people will just stick to H2/H3 remasters. MCC can easily be played for another 3 or more years.

The MCC is awesome and i'm going to play the shit out of it but ultimately what makes it great is still down to bungie. Halo 4 was awful and basically killed my interest int he franchise going forward. Until 343 actually make a quality halo game on their own they haven't actually redeemed themselves.

In my eyes 343 has nothing to redeem. I loved Halo 4, and being their first shot at the series I can only imagine it getting better from here. Story wise (which is why I love Halo) I think they opened a lot of doors to carry Halo into the future. Just because the old Halo formula worked for a while with Halo 1-3 it doesn't mean it should stay that way. Eventually it would get stale. I believe even Bungie saw this and thus we got some changes with Reach.

At some point you have to take a risk with change. Its the only way the franchise can evolve and survive. I respect 343 for being the ones to take that risk. Of course change is scary and some will like it, some will not, but its necessary. And personally, I'm beyond satisfied with what 343 is doing.

I knew DST was weird, but this is some Twilight Zone shit.
Also it is the teams first game ever, but it isn't like they are all new to game development. a LOT of them came from bigger studios, and a handful from Bungie. They also had the entire groundwork for the game laid out for them already. They weren't starting a new IP or anything. It's like if people trying to pass Dragonball GT as good if it was the studio's first show.

People like different things to you, more at 10.

They're not new to game development but they're new to working together as a new team and with a new IP. It's important to remember that.

And four people came from Bungie, including Frankie. This isn't a Titanfall situation where most of the team came from the back of making Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. A lot of these guys had never made an FPS before.

On another note, I'm a little concerned as to how conservative some Halo fans seem to be. You don't want the same game year in, year out. Change is healthy, for better or worse—it helps forge the ultimate Halo experience down the line as the developers learn what people like and dislike.

If 343 wanted to redeem themselves, they would have given Halo: Reach the backend support to matchmaking before running off and making that terrible game, Halo 4.

Doing a half-ass port of Bungie's work, and throwing in Halo 4, which I don't even consider a proper Halo game, is not redemption, it's basically playing off fans' nostalgia to cash in a quick buck.

343 are "inkers" nothing more.

how can a company redeemed themselves with a game that's just a collection of old games?

They have to reedeem themselves with Halo 5, not with this, imo.

I'm glad 343 experimented with things like sprint, perks, instant respawn, kill cams, kill streaks, and loadouts to see what people would like in first person shooters. I think Halo 4 might have established itself as the trendsetter in console FPS market like Halo CE did with unique, new concepts like those.

I liked halo 4 but I still just don't get how people could be upset by this collection. Some of the replies in this thread are mind boggling. Anyone saying this is a quick cash grab hasn't kept up with the amount of work and content that this game has. Not to mention to get it all unified, include a mini series and a beta for halo 5 almost a year before it releases. If that doesn't show people 343 is interested in what the community has to say I don't know what will.

can you explain?

How can they be redeeming themselves by porting a game made by Bungie? Only way for them to redeem themselves is with Halo 5 only

I think the most telling thing about 343's dedication to getting things right is having the Halo 5 beta in folk's hands a full year before launch.

I cant recall any other game, baring MMOs, having such a big window to implement feedback.

How is the port in any way half assed?

Porting every mainline game bar 4 made by bungie doesn't smell like redemption. It smells more like stop gap before they release the next Halo, but hey at least there is a beta.

I'd rather rate a studio on what they actually produce not what they repurpose so when the next Halo comes I think we can have that conversation until then everyone with an Xbone can enjoy any main Halo of their choosing!

Okay, so I realize that you can't break NDA, so I'm gonna make this easy.

One blink for sprint, two blinks for no sprint.

Anyone know a good image host? I can probably post some pictures or something of the swag we got (autographed Halo MCC poster, hoodie, bag, etc).

My friend won (well, he co-won) the dinner auction prize at Child's Play last year and brought me along.

http://www.busygamernation.com/2013/12/do_some_good_-_childs_play_cha_1.html

An employee-only white Xbox One that came with several bonuses including a character in the next Halo game based on the winner enticed a $7,900 winning bid.

I played Halo 5 as well (you probably saw me there). Was a lot like Halo Reach, but with no Armor Lock. Also, the DMR was still over powered and infinite sprint is a default setting for now.

Doubt it will be a competitive game...just sayin.

Frankie told me this is all I can say

So; there were two people who co-won the Child's Play Charity dinner auction; so we had another two people with us. I was about to start laughing because I thought I had shrunk my world considerably. My friend (who won) got his name in the Halo universe as a character, and also got to help design an armor set.

343 told us specifically that we could talk about having played and coming here; we just couldn't talk specifics because they were all still in work / deciding on what they should leave in & take out in terms of abilities.

EDIT: If anyone is curious, we can ping Sh0uta; he can vouch for me. I had told him I was going earlier in the month.
