DP doesn't even just refer to the motion, it also refers to reversals in general.

That's why it's even more confusing.

And you have things like Fei Long's DP which is described as RDP motion. And it's a kick.

It's true that it's gotten to the point where its just a general term.

But when I see 623 as a motion, I'm not looking at my keyboard to decipher it. I already know what it is in the very same way.

You serious? A large portion of the FGC "pros" refer to 623 motions as DP motions. They don't even say "dragon punch" they just say DP.

I remember when FChamp was teaching ShadyK some character and ShadyK asked for a move and FChamp was like "oh yea its reverse DEE PEE" and ShadyK immediately got that. And that was FChamp describing a TELEPORT move which has nothing to do with an actual dragon punch.

If that was a new person they would've never gotten it. And that's why this method of notation writing is non specific.

Now compare this to 623. The only piece of information you need to know regarding this is that the numbers are related to Numpad and anyone can figure it out. With f, b, d/f etc you need to know what 4 of those things mean (f, b, d, u) and you can figure out the rest. With a DP... you need to first figure out what what DP stands for "dragon punch" then you need to figure out what that is (a move in a particular type of fighting game), then you need to figure out the inputs for that action (623) and then you need to translate that input (whether it's in numpad or the other method).

He means when people refer to moves with DP properties as a DP, but they don't necessarily use a DP motion. This definitely occurs.

I think he meant that it is not only used to describe a motion but a reversal as well...hear p4 players talk about dps all the time and iirc it's just two buttons.

I know what he is saying and what he is saying is what I believe to be a problem. Some people use DP to indicate an input (623) while other refer to it as a reversal. It's a non specific terminology. Notations HAVE to be specific or they are garbage.

I don't love numpad notation, but you go with what the community has chosen. I've accepted that I'll learn/use numpad for Xrd. Complaining about it isn't going to get anybody anywhere.

Yeah, we call Furious Action just DP all the time. It's notated as B+D or FA, but we'll refer to it as DP casually.

Edit: If I'm notating for teachign purposes I'll use B+D btw. It helps that DP motions literally do not exist in Persona.

Yeah, in-context you can figure out whether someone means the motion or "reversal" very easily. People aren't that dumb.

I am talking about people NEW to this notation business.

You are going to tell someone new to Tekken and fighting games that you do a WGF by doing a DP and then pressing 2? Come on now man.

I think the terms could be trimmed and polished, if that's what we are worried above. One example is that I wonder how necessary it is point out your gesture is derivative of a "circle" with "C".
.

HCF or half circle forward is a commonly used term in this notation.

But I guess it's not as intuitive as people are trying to argue

almost as funny as

whats the story here?

Marz was talking shit in the Ultra thread about vulva because vulva was FAing Tiger Shots, so they played a few games. The net result was that video, where Marz got lit up so bad CountBlackule went up 2 tiers.

You can read the whole thing from this post onwards.

So did Marz upload that video?

lmao, seeing Deckard Cain's name made me laugh for some reason

I think acceptance to the terms QCF have more to do with history than anything else. The same reason why people still use jab, strong, fierce, short, forward, roundhouse in street fighter...even though, lk, mp, etc are more understandable.

I mean it's not a surprise when you talk to non fighting gamers and they act like QCF is a super technical skill. It's because the term doesn't actually show that it's just 3 inputs on a pad.

when I was new I did as I was taught and left it at that what the fuck is this

It's pretty simple to read both at this point, and new games don't usually have bizzare inputs, so it seems like a strange argument to have. It's not like you're writing notations down in a foreign language, it's really easy.

I guess it might be inconvenient if you play both anime games and tekken but honestly who does that

Majin? Spooky?

Well I feel stupid.

Speaking of feeling stupid, I'm still awful at any 3D fighter. I swear, I need somebody to mentor me and explain what I'm doing wrong as I'm doing it.

Yeah. I feel like someone needs to tell me "just ignore these moves, focus on learning these". Then there's movement to learn and okizeme in Tekken. I haven't played a Tekken since 3 and Tag, but even then I wasn't taking them seriously. There's been a lot added since then, but I'd need someone to show the ropes.

This is like voting between using the metric system or whatever nonsense America uses. We all know the correct choice but people will be stubborn.

I mean some people still use fierce and roundhouse instead of HP and HK

The things I would do to see this game on Steam... has anybody ever tried the online in it? I saw it advertised as a feature.

I've heard the online built in is pretty awful, but mizuumi wiki has a caster which works to great success. If this game got a steam release I would quit all other FGs forever and just play this game for all eternity.

GAF has guys that will help you out in Tekken in the OT.

Gotcha; mizuumi saves my ass again. I love how people do this in their spare time just for the hell of it.
