Halo MCC's 20gb day-one patch is live

Why would you buy disc for the one game(s) this gen that absolutely no one will want to trade in and absolutely everyone should be able to jump into immediately for a match without disc swaps?

This is the game you should keep on your Xbox One as a standard feature, and then you'll get to download the patch early.

Because I want a physical copy of a game I won't be trading in. Physical over digital every single time.

My xbox has always been set to instant on and still no update. MCC still showing 44.5 gig.

Weird.

Edit when boxes were worth owning with decent manuals then I'd agree on physical otherwise I'm not bothered about the case.

This makes no sense. From a convenience standpoint, you can't beat digital. Does anything cool come in the physical copy of this game to make it worthwhile? Otherwise it's just a piece of plastic, and a useless one at that since it's literally only half the game.

It's his preference then I respect that.

Just let me download the patch early. It's not that hard. I'll be buying the disc next week and would prefer not to wait 5 or so hours before I can delve into halo. It's seems a tad sadistic

Dontcha think?

I like to have something actually physical when I make a game purchase, I couldn't care less if it's just a piece of plastic. I like to display my games as part of a collection, when downloaded it's just an icon on my screen. I buy everything physical unless it's a digital only game.

I can understand the convenience of preloading a game, but I don't think that'd ever outweigh the benefits of a physical copy, especially when they cost the same. You're paying more and getting less.

Physical games are also way easier to get hefty discounts on, for console games at least. Even when they do go on sale on PSN/XBL, the prices aren't nearly as good as what I paid for a physical copy months beforehand. XBL was especially bad at offering deep cuts, although that has changed somewhat in the last year or two.

Paying way more if you're not a Best Buy gamer member either and missing out on that halo mapbook

It's an icon on your screen regardless, as the entire thing is installed to your hard drive anyway. The only difference is you're inconveniencing yourself by having to have the disc in the drive.

I'm not trying to give you a hard time or anything, I'm just genuinely curious.

Also, I'm interested in how many console gens you've been gaming. I've done the "collection" thing every generation going back to the Atari 5200, and invariably I have pounds of plastic to deal with as generations come and go. If I kept every game I ever bought and didn't sell right away, I'd need to rent a storage locker to keep it all in.

This gen, I've decided I'm going to go digital for a game I'm going to own for longer than a few months, and physical for shorter games I'm going to sell after completing.

That said, I could kick myself for getting a physical copy of Diablo 3. I really should have bought that one digitally.

I agree with you about having a digital icon regardless, but there are definitely better deals available if going physical.

I started playing games on the PS1, and I've just been used to having physical games my whole life.

I know it's more convenient to have it digitally, but I just like having that game there in my collection to look back on. Like I have a copy of every mainline MGS in my collection and they're all together in one place on my shelf, I just genuinely like looking at them and reading through the manuals occasionally.

I also managed to get the physical copy for £5 cheaper than the digital download.

I'm screwed. I was supposed to work from home Tuesday but now I have an important meeting and I have to go in. The plan was to run to best buy at 10am to start downloading and be ready by afternoon, I may not even get to play Tuesday now. DAMMIT!

Personally I don't really see the point of getting physical for this one since so much of the actual content needs to be downloaded anyway. Got some early birthday money so I'll probably preload tonight.

Well I'm getting LE for MCC, so that's why I'm going physical (and birthday skull, my favourite skull).

I too wish you could download the updates before owning physical copies. Definitely for X1 games I find so far. Most have had massive day 1 updates, at least from Forza, Ryse, DR3, SO didn't. Maybe add games to some sort of list so you can get updates before hand.

I really wanted to own this physically but the perks of digital are too good. :( gonna buy it later today and join preload club

I have one question that I would like to know if any of you can help me out with.

My question is "If I buy MCC and dont have any type of internet connection to my XB1, can I still play it normally at least the singleplay campaign? and does this mean that I cannot play any offline multiplayer if I dont install the 20GB Patch?

Thanks everyone and sorry for the grammar, english is not my first language.

Looks like I got the download.

I'm also running out of space on the harddrive already, jesus christ.

A shame that I can't get the update if I buy the retail version. I guess I'll go through a few campaign missions while it downloads.

Yes, the single player is completely on the disc and will be fully playable without the patch.

I just turned my Xbox One on and I see the Master Chief Collection that I had previously fully downloaded is now in the "Queue" filed under my games.

It shows 100%, but with a status of "Updating". When I hit the button and select "Manage Game", it shows 59.1 GB. Can anyone confirm if that is the total full size of the game with the new patch???

Can you play single player right now with the digital version or is it locked till the retail release date?

No its preloading the game not unlocking it. You're downloading the game now so when it comes out on the 11th then you can start playing and not wait for it to download.

Yep, you are good.

Awesome! Last question. Why does it still show a status of "Updating"? Do I need to keep the console on until it completes, or am I good to turn it off now?

When I downloaded the game a week or so ago, it completed and went into my games, whereas it's currently sitting in Queued status, which worries me. I don't want to turn the console off and then completely screw up the process and set myself back to square one.

This will be my first digital game ever, and I only did it because I knew I would never sell, ease of use (not having to switch out discs, and not having to worry about ordering a physical copy. That said, they really need to fix this process, it should be seamless. You hit the button to pay for it in advance, and simply forget about it and it should do the rest.

Put my xb1 into instant on mode with automatic download enabled, still stuck at 45gb. What am I doing wrong?
