Wish they'd just put the patch up for non digital people to pre-load, with my internet I'm looking at 3 days before I could download it (even now it seems to have dropped to 15gb)
With Nov as it is (and my internet sadly as it is) I've had to put it on the "pick it up later" pile when my net improves.

Put your XBO on instant-on mode and enable auto downloads (setting -> power & startup), turn it off and it should download it. (I just did this and waited for like 15 minutes before turning my XBO on)

Not allowing people to DL this before they get their disc copies is criminal.

Unfortunately I think that's just a design problem and it's not exclusive to the Xbox One. I can't think of a game platform where you can download a patch for a game that isn't installed on it.
But yeah it's definitely something that should be addressed as these files get larger.
Still, the DL is only the multiplayer part right? So you should still be able to pop in your disc and jump into campaign?
I didn't know you're supposed to turn off your XB1, will try that

How do you know when it's done. The icon is back and there is what looks like a white controller symbol on it.

Menu button it -> manage game, check its size.
that is really user unfriendly. but for now it is the only way to know if a game got an update

Mine was stuck at 78% for aaaaaaaages. Eventually got there.
59.6GB total now for MCC.

Not strictly true, as Halo CE and Halo 2's Customs MP is included in the vanilla install. The update does include the rest of MP, including matchmaking, and of course Forge mode.

Yup. This is what made me want to go digital. I know I'll never trade it in and won't have to find the disc to play.

Now that mine has updated it shows the * in the top right hand corner so very easy to tell. I just wasn't sure if this applied to pre-orders.

But at the same time, I don't really have any other games for my XBO.(MCC is he first game I've bought since DO2013).
So I won't be switching discs really, at least not yet. And maybe by the time I have other XBO gsnes, there will have been a price drop/sale...?

My thought is you don't have any X1 games, but are contemplating buying two copies of MCC? Why not buy one copy of the game, and pick up Sunset Overdrive or Forza Horizon 2 instead?

Well, when retail goes out of existence everywhere on earth then I will go digital because I won't have any other choice. Nothing like the feel of having something you could touch, feel and then see displayed in your room, that and well you could always take any specific game or movie you want with you to your friends/relatives house or trade with buddies.
Also, companies like Nintendo make me dread digital more and more. Thankfully though not everyone is like them but still.
