Blizzard announces Overwatch. Team based MP Shooter [Up: Trailers, Screens, More]

Seriously. At first I didn't realize the heroes had abilities and an ultime like Mobas and once I did my mind immediately went to Battleborn. Battleborn looks really crappy compared to this.

Battleborn didn't appeal to me the moment it was announced and showed. This on the other hand it's Blizzard. 1 fun to play,2 different style of gameplay 3 addicting and number 4 is Blizzard Artstyle and humor.

Fuck me this is Destiny all over again, morons are going to hugbox the fuck out of this, and it's going to be dropped like a fucking rock after a month. Fucking sucks being able to predict the future.
Yeah, Blizzard games tend to die off after release. Lack of fanfare and support. Real bummer.

Also wish they were focusing on PvP here instead of a boring PvE grind like Destiny. Oh well.

????????

On one hand I'm glad that Blizzard has finally developed a new IP in a new genre for them to boot. On the other hand I get the feeling that nobody would give a damn about this game if it didn't come from Blizzard. I had the same feeling about the Destiny hype - it seemed to be almost entirely about who was making the game and not the game itself. Marketing and hype seem to drive the industry to such an overwhelming level.

Okay. I'm sure you'll find it much different over there.

Well, /v/ just shits on everything. It's a wonderful place to go if you don't like any games released after the early 2000's.

Is it wrong that from the intro cinematic that I'd really dig a single player campaign? Not that the multiplayer doesn't look fun, it does, but I'd really like to see the bright colorful world fleshed out.

If Overwatch was supposed to be Project Titan, I wonder if Blizzard wanted to make a "Destiny" game but Bungie made it first.

I would love to have a game with game mechanics like Destiny but made by Blizzard, it would make more sense from them since there's loot and raids.

Feels like Blizzard is recycling stuff with this game...maybe I'm wrong.

I didn't even really think about it this way. I saw a lot of TF2 influence and then the MOBA influence in the characterization and varying character abilities. However, now that you mention the use of cooldowns and distinct roles, this really could be a great game. Part of what makes team battles in games like Dota so exciting are the (typically) balanced interplay between many different characters. Each match up is different because you have so many possible interactions of cooldowns/ultimates/items, etc.

Really looking forward to this and hoping it is a bit more dynamic than TF2.

I'm obviously speculating, but removing things like talent trees in a hero based FPS and just going for multiple characters with different stats / default weapons and making the 'big skills' you normally get in a talent tree just the defining powers of that one character could be great.

I mean, there's really no reason the DOTA or LOL model of unique champs each with their own 'big thing' has to only apply to three lane tower pushing games.
An FPS with those sensibilities? Yes please.

What's MOBA about it? 'Abilities' that as easily could have been alternate fires?

It's easier for masses to digest the abilities if you attach it to the MOBA term I guess. None of this is new, it's just all nicely packaged in one game :).

I'd rather see the trailer fleshed out into a feature film than play this. The gameplay just doesn't look interesting at all.

One thing that I think is super cool is that each character has unique abilities and plays completely differently or at least has different mechanics.

It might surprise you, but there are a lot of people still playing and enjoying Destiny as many will play and enjoy this one without thinking shouting BLIZZARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! in their head the whole time.

This is funny and sad on so many levels. Holy cow.

From what we know, Titan was also pretty heavily focused on PvP. This is probably the best working parts of Titan, stripped of the PvE and social/crafting/mundane elements they wanted to have as major features.
