Blizzard announces Overwatch. Team based MP Shooter [Up: Trailers, Screens, More]

And with less charm.

And we'll have to see how the balance and gameplay turns out. The later is not one of Blizzard's strengths.
I was actually a bit surprised by how random some of the design is. Not that the individual characters look bad, they all just look a bit thrown together.

Can't say i am crazy about multiplayer only games, but at least blizzard isn't adding another poorly written IP into the mix. Their writing is just such a shade of their former selves nowadays.

Am i the only one here annoyed by how stunted and awkward a lot of the animations seem though?

A Monster Hunter game.

A monster hunter style game in a diablo world would be AMAZING.

Yeah, I know Tigole and Metzen didn't want to talk about it, but in this day and age it's pretty silly for anyone to not make a class/character-based MP-only game F2P. The only question at this point is if it's going to be the Valve "characters are free, pay only for vanity bullshit" model or the Riot "pay for characters and vanity bullshit" model.

HotS is the latter, but it's entirely possible they'll decide the former works better for Overwatch.
Let's hope so. I did the Riot approach once and I won't make that mistake again.

Im fine with F2P if they take the dota 2 route. With only 12 characters it would make sense to just have cosmetics for sale.

The lore doesn't match the gameplay at all. This looks like the scraps of what was supposed to be a full blown MMO, basically just the PVP/arena part. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it gets scrapped entirely, looks terrible. A graveyard of ideas that didn't make it into other blizzard games.

I'll give them this... it does not look like a Blizzard game, which is a good thing.

It does however look like a mix between Firefall and Wildstar, two esthetics which are kinda played out in my book.

There is no death match mode.

That shield is giving me Fuse vibes...

Honestly it's nice to see Blizzard having the motivation to not be 'The Diablo/Starcraft/Warcraft" company.

Game looks pretty fun.

not sure if this has been mentioned yet but this to me is a cross between leagues and team fortresss with q w e and alt abilities. i'm guessing like leagues, they will introduce new heroes over time.

Who are these 3

Officially unrevealed characters, but they appear in several promotional artworks.

Blizzard did the same thing with Heroes of the Storm, where Sylvanas was in the original artwork, but is still not released, among others.

Edit:

Oh, apparently they have names.

Am I wrong to be getting a TF2 x MOBA vibe from this?
yep, same here.
What's going on to make her butt expand like this?
http://a.pomf.se/gfcotf.webm
Maybe her suit is REALLY tight, like a G-suit for fighter pilots
She's wearing latex, maybe she farted?
wow, rolling in the bead laughing :D
Is this going to be on consoles?
For now, no
Coming to retail in 2017.
In case you were serious never going to happen (except maybe for something like character 'booster packs')

i'm just going to say that i'm intrigued, and that i'll keep an eye on this. finally a game from Blizzard, that made me interested (i'm not into MMOs, MOBAs, card games nor lately into RTSs)

DAMN YOU BLIZZARD FOR INCLUDING SPACE COWBOY

I want a space cowboy bounty hunter game and now I can already see the meetings where several AAA games around that very concept are getting canceled because they don't want to appear to copy that character design.

If you don't believe this statement, you've never seen a protoss deathball.

They also intend to continually add them because buying new ones is presumably the core business model of the game (along with vanity items).

If characters have to be bought i am definitely not even interested. If Valve has shown the public anything, it is that you don't have to throw in anti-consumer practices to be a successful F2P game.

Yeah, the rumors are it will be similiar to League of Legends. The game is F2P but the characters cost money.
