Blizzard announces Overwatch. Team based MP Shooter [Up: Trailers, Screens, More]

Called it.

Characters lack cohesion.

Tech-Fairy, Talking Gorilla, and Grim Reaper Pistol Grimdark Dude.

I'm sure it'll be fun, but the universe seems like such a mish-mosh of nonsense. No soul to it.

What do you mean by that "No Soul" It has a ton of personality from what I've seen so far. And the art direction is great. I could see this game being heavily marketable. Film, Toys, Books and so on. Do you mean some of them look out of place?

Came expecting to be "meh, another damn shooter", but I really like the character designs (which is odd, since I'm pretty meh to Blizzard's stuff), and the gameplay look to have lots of variety, which is nice.

But, I was super bummed out that this cool dude was not in the gameplay trailer:

League of Legends character archetype comparison part 2 - with pics

Not accusing anyone of being a ripoff, LoL is just as guilty of using these tropes and takes huge influence from pop culture and mythology as well. But it's interesting to see such similar archetypes.
Full circle. LoL is based on a MoD that turned blizzard's WC3 models into heroes.

Blizzard design has always being like this, fanatic like, easy, juvenile, trying to be cool above anything, although well done given what their purpose is.

Based on no evidence, I get the strong vibe that this is a retooling of the leftover assets of Project Titan. Also, the project lead Kaplan was also the lead for Titan.

Finally got around to watching this after reading people hype it up all day.

It does not look remotely fun. I have no clue what people are seeing in it.

Plus it's blizzard so the balance will be horrendous.

It is what Titan was retooled into. :-P (Do we know what the pricing model is for this game, btw?)

???

Yet werewolves, orcs, giant cows and space goats totally isn't a Mish mosh

havnt seen/read much yet,

will you have to unlock characters with gold/xp/money?

i would 95% stay with tf2 cause thats how free2play should be and its a quality shooter valve got much expierience with this, blizzard definatly not. but as i said havnt seen/read much yet.

I had the exact opposite reaction.

Me too.

Still not a fan of the art direction. It's well executed for what it is but it just doesn't do anything for me. Feels derivative. The gameplay has me interested but I'm tentative on how you can balance all those different abilities especially with the information they're releasing.

I can't help but feel some characters will be necessary for teams, like the flying medic. Course, TF2 also had fundamental class balancing issues but on the other hand, that game is super old.

So, it's a Pixar art direction superhero TF2?

Count me in. Blizz has always been great at borrowing from others and making stuff I end up loving and sinking hundreds of hours into, so fingers crossed, looks like it could be tons of fun!

Looks like a modern Blizzard game all right. Not particularly appealing to me, but I'm happy that other people are into it. I could imagine the art style definitely makes an impression to the young/adult crowds (teens and adolescents), akin to Pixar and other CGI animations/cartoons.

Could you elaborate on this? I can totally see not being into it, but I'm not sure how it looks like a predictable modern Blizzard game. They canned their first attempt at a shooter, and the art is far more cartoony and goofy than the look Diablo, Starcraft, and Warcraft all have these days. If anything, it seems like fans could be/are disappointed in how not like a modern Blizzard game it is.

The artstyle for the game is fantastic, and it's sounds like they have the setting of the universe and characters very fleshed out, but...*sigh* This is just so dissapointing. It sounds like it's nothing but an arena shooter with the skill system of moba's...

The setting feels like it could have been much much more than just a dumb arena shooter. Like seriously, imagine if this was Titan, same universe, same artstyle, same/similar gameplay. And instead of the arena shooter stuff being the entire game, it was only the pvp portion.

Looks really good, varied cast with unique designs. Fan of Widowmaker, Symmetra, Hanzo and Reaper.

Seems like It will feel in the UT type gameplay itch with a bit more flare, some nice artsy looking levels too.

Most "dumb arena shooters" have more skill and depth than People think. Depends on the game.

If this hasn't been mentioned before, but Arnold Tsang; the dude responsible for a lot of the pencils in the Udon Comics Street Fighter comic series, is the lead concept artist for Overwatch.

Well, signed up for the beta, looks interesting enough, even though from the gameplay trailer some of the classes didn't look that different/unique from others.

All of the people who described the game to me made a lot of Team Fortress comparisons both in terms of aesthetics and gameplay. Three people who saw the game have compared the aesthetics to Team Fortress 2, with one source describing it as a cross between StarCraft II's in-game cinematics and Pixar's The Incredibles.

it would have taken place on a near-future version of Earth, in a science-fiction depiction of the world where mankind has successfully fought off an alien invasion. Players would join one of three factions waging a cold war over control of the planet

Ah, the pieces are really coming together

I wonder if the CGI trailer was originally made for Titan. The line "We could always use more heroes" would make the most sense if you afterwards get to create your own character.

I just saw the kotaku article thing on the first page....I'm gonna go cry in a fucking corner...

SHOCKING NEWS: Trickster is disappointed in the scale of a game and/or lamenting "content that was cut."

TBH going by the Kotaku article this is just titan with the "normal world" stuff removed. They described the shadow world as quick PVP matches.

The normal world "you can be a cook, or a janitor!" stuff sounded awful, so I'm not sad about it.

So Gearbox upcoming Battleborn is pitting against this?

Motiga's GIGANTIC, too
