Valkyria Chronicles for PC [Nov 11, £14/20/$20, has all DLC, 60fps/1080p+, $14 GMG]

Port sounds great, but I have a question for someone who already has it and hopefully they can confirm or deny without breaking any kinds of embargos:

Are the controls in these screenshots:

The extent of the keyboard bindings? The reason I ask is I use a non standard controller and would like to make my controller profile before release, if these are all of them I can do that.

Well going off the stream that was on the game supports non standard controllers and uses the Button 1, 2, 3, etc... prompts with them.

Indeed, however mine is using mouse and keyboard emulation not directinput, but it is nice it supports those as well as they are kind of a dying breed.

oh cool there's keyboard prompts

it's beautiful ;_;

Goddamn seeing that makes me cry.

That efficient and full use of 16:9 real-estate compared to VC2's 4:3 command view and negative-space everywhere around it.

Told you guys Valkyria would creep up to the top of the Steam top sellers list as we get closer to release. Increasingly competitive time period for launch right now.

Important to note that it has held the top revenue spot on GMG since it was announced.

Tight optimization means the new porting house can do a lot with CANVAS; being able to play this close to or better than the PS3 experience on middle-tier PCs means SEGA can target the JRPG and strategy audience more effectively. Great to see it rising the charts! I'm getting nothing but good vibes about this port.

Hopefully it sells enough to finance a new game set in Fhirald.

I only have a surface level understanding of what VC is about but I pre-ordered it a week ago regardless. It looks like something I might enjoy. I'm super into turn based strategy RPGs like Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy Tactics, and XCom.

If this plays nothing like I expect it to be then it's all on me for jumping the gun.

Wow the site even gave the campaign a shout out, very cool of them.

Interesting that there's basically only 2 graphics options though. Game is gonna look great.

I'm so excited for this.

VC is one of my favorite games of all time (and VC3 is no slouch either), so I just can't wait to play this again on PC.

Can't believe this is happening. >_<

Didn''t they recruit teenagers in real life wars too?
Not as cute as in the anime/games though.

Depends on the country, obviously, but yes. Also, technically the cast of VC1 are volunteer militia, not army; their involvement is more like townsfolk taking up arms in the face of an imminent invasion than being signed up for a draft and given proper military training.

One of your soldiers is a twelve year old girl, actually.

One of the bigger disbelief suspension breakers was all the teenage war recruits.

why? its a anime (style) game, not company of heroes. 12 year old warriors / soldiers / fighters / what have you are a staple of that

Wow, that review posted makes things seem very positive! Cant wait, gonna be one of the first games in a while that I'm purchasing that I'm gonna be playing immediately, not just purchasing and throwing on the huge backlog list.

Ignoring that, I'm raffling a key for the upcoming release, expect results 12 hours from now.

Thanks for the generosity, first giveaway I decided to enter :)

Been waiting a long time to play through this game, I got given a copy for free when I worked at Sega but it was during crunch and so I didn't boot it up for ages, turns out the disc was borked and by the time I knew there were no more copies left. Yay for convenient/cheap DD PC releases.

Teenage war recruits happened in real life, especially in the time period VC is trying to fictionalize.

The Germans equipped an entire SS Panzer Tank Division and manned it with 16 and 17-year-old boys from the Hitler Youth brigades. As Germany suffered more casualties, more teenagers volunteered and were accepted, initially as reserve troops but then as regulars. The German ethic of the boy soldier not only encouraged such service but towards the end of the war, the Germans even drafted boys as young as 12 into military service. These children saw extensive action and were among the fiercest and effective German defenders in the Battle of Berlin.[102]
And in WWI, there was an 8-year-old boy serving in the Serbian army after his parents, grandmother, and seven siblings were killed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Momčilo_Gavrić
What makes VC odd is the girls of various ages fighting, but that happened in real life too, it was just quite a bit rarer.

Unless, of course, it's a tiny European country caught in the middle of a much larger conflict, not entirely unlike the setting of VC.

And if you think it feels a bit weird to get into real-life unpleasantries of WWII when talking about a colorful, fanciful Japanese video game, uh, think of this as a good warm-up.
