Valkyria Chronicles for PC [Nov 11, £14/20/$20, has all DLC, 60fps/1080p+, $14 GMG]

"Frame Limit: Refresh rate" is actually quite interesting. I wonder if it actually supports 120, 144hz, etc. I wasn't expecting it to, but it'd be a nice surprise if it did.

You can find some VC guides here, should apply to the PC version since the content is identical.

Basically, any kind of challenge run you can think of is possible in VC. People have done all kinds of crazy things, so don't be afraid to experiment.

It's imbalanced and easy if you scout/order rush and you miss out on a lot of mechanics and level design.

If you find it too easy try killing all leaders, tanks, and aces on the map in addition to an S rank.

HOLY CRAP VC HAS VSYNC SETTINGS

BEST GAME EVER
That's a boring settings screenshot. I guess if the cat is out of the bag I might as well.

It's getting released at 20:00 CET for us Europeans according to Steam's store page. That's 11 AM for Pacific Standard Time for you Western Americans

I don't think there is a resolution cap, or at least I haven't found it. At ridiculous resolutions it starts being unstable and crashing though, but that's the case for any 32 bit game.

It looks like they have nailed the fundamentals, arbitrary resolution support, not capped at 60hz (?). I'll be perfectly happy with that, especially considering it is a port of a 6 year old PS3 exclusive.

I hope it supports AMD's SSAA. Call me old fashioned, but I like my super sampling in a rotated grid with a box filter.

Regarding teenager soldiers, when I was serving my 2 years conscription (at 18), there were fellow conscripts who were younger than that. None younger than 16 though.

Teenage war recruits happened in real life, especially in the time period VC is trying to fictionalize.

And in WWI, there was an 8-year-old boy serving in the Serbian army after his parents, grandmother, and seven siblings were killed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Momčilo_Gavrić
What makes VC odd is the girls of various ages fighting, but that happened in real life too, it was just quite a bit rarer.

Unless, of course, it's a tiny European country caught in the middle of a much larger conflict, not entirely unlike the setting of VC.

And if you think it feels a bit weird to get into real-life unpleasantries of WWII when talking about a colorful, fanciful Japanese video game, uh, think of this as a good warm-up.

Gallia is a smalle country, we must remember that.
Despite that though, the 12 years old girl enlist herself so there's that.

"despite"
This small country is squeezed between two giant countries. So it does a certain amount of sense that they take everyone they can. When the third Reich was falling they didn't hesitate to take young boys and girls into duty. This is not a good thing, but I can understand that a small country in the trap and constant danger of getting obliterated don'T refuse kids as soldiers.

Since it's being unlocked tomorrow I decided to search for my man Ted on youtube (and I'm totally not doing it to avoid studying for my exam which is also tomorrow). The first hit was this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APiyS2mbIjQ.

All I have to say is: Wow.
I never scout rushed when I played the game on PS3 around 4 years ago because I didn't notice how broken they were
because I actually suck at strategy games
. I will actively refuse to do this when I replay the game because where is the fun in that?
Unless I'm achievement hunting in which case I'll do it on NG+.
Don't judge me.

I'll probably play the game with English VA since I like hearing what the characters say. I can still remember "Hi, I'm Ted!" every time he goes to town on some poor Imperial.

I hope most of the people who havent played it on the PS3 are not expecting a traditional strategy rpg, VC is much more of a puzzle game than a strategy one, as the game progresses fights become more and more linear in terms of which units you have to move, to where and do what.

It's great but nothing like FFT or Ogre Battle for example.

Seeing VC on top of popular release. It's beautiful...

Anyway, my area is 6 more hours into d-day, and store listed it released in approximately 1 days 8 hours more. Guess, it is 12 Nov then.

I can't actually think of any games that have subtitles and dubtitles separate. Would you like to enlighten me?

I don't know of any, but I rarely play Japanese games. It just really put me off in VC because I understand enough Japanese to know when the VO is totally different from the dubtitles, but not enough to often understand all that is said.

And the English VO is terrible in acting and worse in content compared to the Japanese.

You'd find many English-translated Japanese games adhere to that kind of localization principle.

I personally like it because it's interesting to observe a translator's methods and choices of conveying meanings.

I understand how you feel, I felt the same way when I played it. As I said earlier though, I don't think there are any games out there with separate subtitles and dubtitles track. I understand Japanese more now though, so I'll see how it feel this time round.

Bought and now preloading

This way I download while I'm at work. Multi-tasking ftw! I thought I'd have to borrow a friends PS3 (again) or buy one to enjoy this game. This gen continues to throw surprises.

Soooo I guess by that ludicrous resolution posted above that GeDoSaTo is a-go-go. This is going to be fun.

Well with the rules allowing voting for a game if it's new to that platform we can all change that this year!

Yup! Probably not my overall GOTY, but it will feature for sure.

Oh yes, I know that. My issue with VC is that what is said in the dub is often very different than what was originally said in Japanese. With no separate subtitles for the Japanese VO you miss out on quite a lot of omitted dialogue unless you understand Japanese.

I'm left with a dub suffering from poor translation and bad VA or Japanese VO which I don't fully understand.
