Valkyria Chronicles for PC [Nov 11, £14/20/$20, has all DLC, 60fps/1080p+, $14 GMG]

At this point, it seems almost impossible that this port isn't profitable for Sega. It's been top seller at GMG for a while, and it's been sitting at/near the Steam chart tops for a while as well. So glad to see it doing so well.

Games unlocking at 10 am PST is bog standard Steam stuff. Sometimes games will release at midnight EST/9 PM pst or 3 am EST/midnight PST as well but those tend to be higher profile titles. 10 AM PST is what time the Steam store updates each day so the majority of stuff goes up then. I think devs can actually release any time they want but a lot just wait til 10 am.

Tip for those who haven't played before:

Don't be afraid to replay completed missions to level up. Grinding is effective in this game. And best of all- it's fun! I had a blast replaying one mission dozens of times over the course of the game and improving my rating on it.

You're talking about the skirmish missions? I don't think you can replay any of the story missions.

The thing is, there are quite a lot of factors involved.

1. People buying VC because they played it before and wish to get the definitive version.
2. People buying VC because they didn't have a Ps3 and are curious what all the fuss is about.
3. People buying VC because it's damn good value with all the included DLC.
4. People buying VC because they wish to encourage Sega to port more games to PC.
5. People buying VC because they wish to encourage Sega to continue making VC games.

I'd love to get a quote from Sega PR about how well VC done, and what the future may hold for other titles.

Awesome... so 12am central. I probably wont be playing it much at that time, but look forward to playing it on Tuesday.

The contrast in reception between this and Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric is unsettling. SEGA is like the Hydra snapping its heads off and regenerating from generation to generation, such is its disorganization.

I'll probably delay the OT until the embargo is up, so that I can include all the relevant information.

And delicious screenshots.

Those are my exact reasons for getting PC VC.

Same. But I just have this gut feeling a successful port of VC will set up the Skies of Arcadia HD effort.

Tales games on Steam would be juggernauts on Top Sellers. I'd get Symphonia; unrelated, but tri-Ace games would really impress me, doubly so because I still haven't played through the Star Ocean series up to III.

It's good. It's a simple story, but charming and effective. Not too complicated, which I appreciate. It's weird, as it mixes serious military themes with weird Japanese anime/sci-fi stuff, but I find it works. Never gets too over the top or anything.

Get the game though- it's a masterpiece. It really is. There's nothing that plays like it at all, and the systems are incredibly robust.

It's WW2 in anime form basically. The plot is not complicated, mainly just people drawn into a large war because of a greedy invading enemy. The concentration camp thing is that there's a race of people that are treated like second class citizens because of some stuff they supposedly did in ancient times. That being said it's not nearly as graphic as the real life atrocities it deals with.

There's more to it than that, it has some fantasy elements that play out largely toward the end of the game, but the basic plot is actually pretty simple.

It's a war story in a setup similar to WWII (including some racial stuff, running over neutral countries ect), but with fictional countries.

The emotional part comes from stuff that happens during a war. People die, villages and cities burn, ordinary people getting drafted into a miltia and becoming battle hardened ect.

It's not only tragic though. There's quite a lot of cheery/lighthearted and corny moments.

The story won't blow your mind but i liked the setting quite a bit.

That being said, the main reason for getting this game is that it's a good and also a unique Strategy RPG.

Welp, I bit the bullet and bought it! Can't wait to play this when it unlocks. Thanks all for the feedback.

All these, with a special emphasis on 5. I'm hoping that this does well enough to see a return to a sequel without restraints.

Neat, top 5! I think it might actually make it to number 1 tomorrow once screens start rolling in. Now that'll be one for the history books.

what what WHAT

it's probably nothing

right?

I don't actually know anything on that front (sadly). But I would also not be surprised in the absolute slightest, for multiple reasons. And if VC does well, it will fan flames that have been burning for years now.

It actually won't be that surprising if it gets #1 on its release day; it's a high-profile enough release with a hype train building that one would expect it. Most games, even ports, manage to at least tickle the top spot on release day. Two of my own games did. (Recettear famously didn't, but it launched nearly day-and-date with Amnesia, so they shared the top 5 for a long while.)

The real question will be how long it remains in the top 10 - that'll be a good indication of how it's actually doing. Top 5 will be a tall order given all the coming competition, but top 10... we'll see.

Tales would be pretty funny:

- hai guys how about TALES OF DESTINY R HD WITH EXTRA CONTENT biatches!!1!!
- Huh, that's all well and good, but... where's Vesperia PS3?
- ...

People might be a little gun shy after FFXIII.

Let's not forget that FFXIII was different because:

1) It was cheaper (11€ at launch with discount)
2) It's Final Fantasy

I think VC is performing pretty well considering how of a niche IP it is.
Let's see if it had legs then.

Id fucking love to play this in 5760x1080, but I have no real faith that it will be possible...

I'm happy enough that this is coming and Ill go back to complaining about borderlands pre sequel having the exact same eyefinity problems as borderlands 2...

EDIT: Also hoping PS icons is an easy mod

All dis. 5 would be miraculous. Not likely, but hey, nothing to lose. Will certainly purchase another copy this week to pass the love on to a fellow Gaffer.

What if they localize Vesperia PS3......for PC?

Oh the delicious meltdowns that would ensue.

It's not too far of a leap in logic to think that releasing older titles to this much fanfare might at least stir some conversation of releasing other similar titles. Whether it happens or not, my choice in purchasing VC is twofold. Because it's a great game and I want to support similar releases. What SEGA does is anyone's guess though. Oh and I didn't get the DLC at the time so this will be even better.

So how long til that 43 minute preview video gets taken down by angry Sega?

Aren't there already loads of VC1 videos on youtube? I don't think SEGA will hold it too hard against them.

I'm personally trying to go in as blind as possible, the only thing really spoiled for me so far is that
Scouts are OP, but only if you level them to be and it pays off in endgame

I would hide in a bunker and watch the far away explosions.

.

Scouts are never bad, is the trick; it's just that, with some focused training, they become a rolling death squad who can take objectives in an eyeblink, rather than merely "good riflemen who you still need to be careful charging into machine gun nests with".

Bigger spoiler you may not want to mouse over until later, Nyoro:
And, granted, this is not assisted by one particular character gaining a heap of plot powers on top of the already potent Scout class template...

Quoting because all of this reasons (except N°2) apply to my decision to buy at 19.99, Sega deserves the money this time.
