Fighting Games Weekly | Nov 10-16 | Frauds Among Us

Blizzard would make a horrible fighting game, maybe not mechanically but their kind of support can be very stifling. This is a personal opinion but I have played a lot of their games and they always try to patch or fix anything that they didn't put there themselves. It happened countless of times within the life span of D3, players found something unique or rather out there to play with Blizzard patches it, usually saying it's for balance even though the game isn't even balanced in the first place. An example is that wizards used to have their mirror images have multiple hydras out and they patched it out, while stuff like M6 Dh is very similar in concept but much stronger. Or a lot of times they did knee jerk reactions to what seems too strong, even in a pve game.

The thing is fighting games develop a lot on emergent gameplay. You see people talking about new tech pretty much every day. Even new character and move interactions that sway matchups. For example, you see Air pulling out crossup flipkicks that he said he found recently with Poison, if it was Blizzard and they didn't know about it, they would think it's an unintended tool. Another example is that people are making up new terms for Smash 4 since the game came out for things they find, and Melee is chock full of unintended mechanics (though Sakurai sounds like the type of person to patch that out if he could). Unless it is extremely broken (like nothing can be done about it or basically makes no one play like Gambit glitch), the FG community lets it rock. Blizzard wouldn't.

edit:
Blizzard is the type of company who if a fan asks the following question "this game is casual and requires no skill" they respond with "yes you are right and that is by design".

If Blizzard made a fighting game it would be the most casual fighting game ever made that isn't Divekick.

And you can bet your candy ass that the new Blizzard FPS is going to be imbalanced as fuck.

Yea I agree, this is the most likely case, since it's a pattern with them.

Finally personalized my Razer Atrox.

Yo, damn

yeah kof 13 is over. game had a great run honestly and was what i consider a breakthrough for snk game scene. game had awesome play and international participation. amazing to see.

i just hope the other companies take note of the titles pc performance, and note that you dont have to sell out and make trash.

Oh yeah, I forgot. Smash Wii comes out in like 10 days.

my hangup with post melee/non project m smash is that i need to see that nintendo has learned something and has made attempts to adapt. Their embrace of dlc and continued support through Mewtwo is a step in the right direction, but until i hear about changes and tweaks its hard for me to be excited (esp with the game as it is) console parity and things like that are also a big turn off.

that said, i look forward to seeing what kind of play the new game offers at a high level. i dont expect melee level speed and intensity, but if it ends up in the middle, i think we can be satisfied

whatever quality the game has, if there is one thing we can trust, it's that autism or not, smash community will bring the hype

What the hell is up with your avatar? Also, my cousin has been critical of the game with how it works but I'll give it a shot myself once my friend buys it for the Wii U and I can play his version to see if I would buy it myself. If Smash 4 doesn't work out, its time for Xrd and whatever Capcom has boiling in the kettle
and lets hope its not more costume DLC
.

Play the game on your own terms and not your cousin's. If you end up enjoying the game, pop a squat in front of your cousin with shades on

So doom isn't a godking with science gauntlets? I'm really disappointed.

I watched the stream from Canada Cup yesterday, and the Ultra Street Fighter grand finals were so hype!! Peppeday and his El Fuerte is wild, volatile, unpredictable, and simply wild... lol. I feel like Poongko was playing very conservative after winning 5-0. I was mad seeing how Air was completely dominated by Poongko, and he should have gone with Ryu.

Just blind buy it. No exceptions and all no regrets

Damn, gotta be careful, I ain't Smedwicks. By the way, now that I mention him, where has he gone to? College life must be rough.

Fake Edit:

Just checked his twitter, he's well and alive spamming tweets on amiibos

I think I need to ban him from twitter too.

Absolute Battle is going down this weekend in Dallas, Texas. We have Jan, Fchamp, Rubeks, Terry Bogard, Busby, Angelic, SnakeEyez, Ray Ray, Ricky Ortiz, Noel Brown, Native, Joekage (Joe Love) and many more!

PandaXGaming will also be hosting their first offline Ultimate Fight Night battle to showcase some of the South's local talent. Definitely check it out if you can.
Will make these changes/add to OP when I get a chance. If it hasn't been apparent from the laziness with the past few week's OTs, updating FGW is really at the bottom of my priority list D;

You should've known what you've gotten yourself into when you used 'I' as a workaround.

It's going to follow you for life.
Find comfort in knowing "at least it's not an underscore."

have you guys seen pepedays new kappa shirt?

http://teespring.com/kappapepe2#pid=6&cid=619&sid=front

really great design.
This is pretty cool.

It is universally agreed that we can never use or suggest this title again, right?
It is law.
FGW threads confirmed to be 15% smaller henceforward.

Any chance of you going to Imgur for the images? It kills me that I never see most of the graphics because iMinus is blocked where I am (Imgur is not).
I would LOVE to use imgur but... my account has all of the possible visible items occupied by the Marvel team configurater for the UMvC3 OT. Which isn't really a problem, but no matter what imgur has limits on how many items you can upload and still have accessible, and min.us generally still has better management options.

Honestly, a good min.us and imgur replacement with easier hotlinking and photo organizing is long overdue and I'd jump on any alternatives. Photo organizing is crucial though, any old image hosting site won't do (and most are unreliable too).

what is the history on this lmao
Looks like Forza to me? Probably Horizon 2.

Undoubtedly. I still laugh IRL reading it.

OT has had a string of great relationship threads these past few weeks.

Overwatch isn't out yet.

And WoW has been a lot of things, over the years.
none of them good

WoW's raiding is fine, and the best it has ever been. But pvp, is a disaster.

If overwatch has engaging objective based stuff like rtcw:Et or dystopia had (no one played it :( ) then I'm fine with some weird balance. If it has roles/classes that do what they are supposed then that sounds awesome.

Marie from Skullgirls is the worst when fighting her in hard difficulty. I hate the skeletons she throws at me especially that long one that does multiple hits. I hate the shadow figure the most.

You talking about the boss? I had a hell of a time beating her even with Peacock when I tried SG out.

I was using Eliza, and I don't know ways to beat Marie with her other than using her Sekhmet's mode which doesn't help sometimes. I mean she doesn't flinch by Marie's attacks when she's in that mode, but I can still die from her attacks that does damage.

blizzard sucks so much that it's painful (but also kind of funny) to even contemplate them making a fighting game
I'd play it. I wanna do some my Murloc Loops. Heck, like X-factor it has it's own mechanic. L-Jenkins.

I have a strange affection for really broken fighting games. Don't know why the recent conversation made me think of that but here we are.
TvC is a better game than Marvel 3.

Ooooh damn. It's all true!

And you can bet your candy ass that the new Blizzard FPS is going to be imbalanced as fuck.

The whole Blizzard "easy to learn, hard to master" philosophy is a relic of the past now. Stuff like HS and HotS are both easy to learn and easy to master (relatively speaking). That new FPS is going to be the same. D3 is a super casual loot game to the point that you are playing auto pilot 90% of the time (100% if playing M6 DH).

Blizzard making a fighting game would be:

*Release something that is an imbalanced piece of shit.

*Release garbage balance patch after 6 months where they basically nerf everything and remove complexities.

*Rinse and repeat for 2 years then announce an expansion with lofty promises.

Blizzard being competent at game balance is a myth. They've what, succeeded once with Brood War? And that was an accident. SC2 balance/design is a fucking disaster. I haven't followed the other games, but they're the same probably?

Shiny polished 1p experience was always why the company was highly regarded, little else.

Blizzard is insanely patch-happy. In Starcraft 2 WoL it basically became a running joke that patch contents were:

- Adjust Bunker timing
- Nerf Terran

The sad thing is that was actually accurate. Terran is naturally the aggressive faction in the game (because the devs thought it was fucking brilliant idea to make whole factions strong at specific points in time instead of leaving that up to players' build choices) so people invented all kinds of aggressive builds. Of course, given that people hadn't seen them before they seemed broken as fuck. Cue kneejerk nerfs. It's a splendid showcase of Blizzard not understanding that new metagames initially tend towards aggressive, proactive strategies and solid control/defensive archetypes take time to form - you've got to know what to control/defend against if you are to build a reactive strategy, and for that you need a bit more settled metagame. Blizzard rarely gave it time, especially if it was Terran that was strong. The state where Zerg was wtfbrokenhax at the end of WoL lasted for months on end though.
