Are people having issues watching this? Quality has been great for me (as soon as I wrote that it went to buffering). Looks like a lot of assumptions being made and conclusions jumped to.

Like what was wrong with the name Energy Sword?

Prophets Bane? Really?

Maybe I'm wrong but I think Prophet's Bane is just a special variant of the Energy Sword that likely only shows up on certain maps (or just one map?).

I'm guessing the Energy Sword is still there in its normal incarnation without the increased movement speed and lunge.

Ugh that humanoid style alien looked like something out of Defiance. I always liked that Halo didn't stoop to such poor character designs. Where doe those people fit in the established lore?

Also, that Elite CGI is Syfy channel incarnate.

Which is the path that Halo 2 and Max Hoberman set it on years ago. Halo used to be Blood Gulch and Sidewinder and now it's Lockout and Midship. What's the surprise?

It is a surprise when the games for the past 10 years haven't had these new features.Halo has never been super faced paced though. The thrusts and sprint change the game up a lot. Looks cool and I'll give it a try but at a glance doesn't seem like Halo.

Man that CG...

  • even abilities all the time

  • pro team - go to resource e.g. callouts
  • callouts all created by pro team at 343i
  • Perfect Kill = new medal for perfect 4 shot kill

MAPS
  • Truth = Midship remake
  • New map shown, simulation design style

SPARTAN ABILITIES
  • Thruster (works multi direction)

  • Slide (full sprint velocity then crouch to slide)
  • Charge (full sprint velocity then melee to slide)
  • Sprint (while sprinting shield does not recharge, must walk or stop to recharge)
  • Smart scope (hip fire accurate, no penalty to movement), allows descope

WEAPONS
  • AR
  • sniper
  • pistol
  • rocket thingy
  • battle rifle (2X zoom)
  • dmr
  • SMG
  • Prophets Bane - new energy sword and you get increased movement and lunge

BETA
  • Begins 29th DEC 2014 and ends 18th JAN 2015
  • all about new arena experience

  • nerfed first: thruster pack (quinn), ground pound (josh)
  • the DEC beta will include a basic version of the new spectator mode

Thanks for this.

Was that new alien invented just so they could have a humanoid?

In a way, but they are already in the comics. Weak slave species without the military value of grunts, even and hated and deliberately suppressed by prophets because of similarity to homo sapiens.

Anyone worried about these changes for H5 should be relieved, if you aren't, quite frankly, I'm afraid for your mental health that you really want a carbon copy of the games you've been playing for years.

Amen, checking some of the more hardcore halo forums post announcement and it really is hilarious. Most of them haven't been happy with a halo since H2 and during H2 most hark back to CE. I'm not sure what they were expecting from H5, the MCC surely checks all their boxes?

Impressions from the MP beta match. I'm someone who didn't play H4 or Reach.

So the prerecorded pro match felt a bit staged mainly because of the 49-50 finish and the casters having to inject an info dump discussing the new mechanics and changes. Still, very exciting match.

The physicality to the player camera movement looks great. Seeing the weapon swing to the left of the screen when thrusting to the right, for example, packs information and feedback for the player to use.

The audio cues in MP sound great. I really loved some of the cues and feedback from the KILLZONE audio teams at GG, so similar chirps and beeps convey great info so you don't have to constantly glance at the HUD. This is par for the course, but it seems like the thrusters are another system you need to manage, in addition to player shields.

Balancing sprinting with the ability to recharge shields seems like a really smart choice. Glad the risk-reward option is there. I can't remember if this was in the newer HALO games since I didn't play Reach or H4.

There are a few concerns I have though.

Even with the thrusters to counter things like Energy Sword lunges, does the Sword still have a "sticky" effect (closed the distance, kind of corrected the player's inputs to make sure the attack landed) to it that it had in previous HALO games? It felt rewarding for the player launching the attack, but not really that great when you were on the receiving end and thought you were at a safe distance, out of its range, even with the added magnetism.

Next, some of the more organic Covenant architecture is really hard to read for things like the new clambering mechanic. I'm hoping that some (strong) player leading will be added in to signal where players can climb and where they cannot. The Midship remake has lots of smoothed, sweeping curves to its geometry, so it's kind of tough to read this. Some sort of player leading/visual language would really go a long way in this, and I'm sure the art team at 343i could make establish it in a way that won't take away from their spaces.

Overall, I was really excited by what I saw. Definitely going to spring for the MCC to play the beta if I end up getting an XB1 soon.

Halo has always been a mix between big team and 4v4

Blood Gulch and Sidewinder vs Chill Out and Prisoner

Waterworks and Zanzibar vs Ivory Tower and Sanctuary

Why is no one running?

I'm running! Just like this waiting MCC to be unlocked:

Increased mobility and verticality in FPS arena shooters might be my favorite trend so far this console generation.

Titan Fall, COD:AW and now Halo 5, all giving the player the ability to move around the environment in fast and fun ways that factor directly into the combat (and retreat).

Me likey.

They're finally getting close to what Shadowrun did over 7 years ago!

That's a special version lol. Not the regular version. As someone else said, Fist of Rukt vs hammer.
Will the classic scope/zoom be an option at least?

I don't want to have half my screen obstructed by the weapon every time I zoom. The classic scope looks much better, much more elegant. I really hope it's still an option.

I don't understand how people gave this a bad review. This nightfall seems good so far.

And god I'm ready to pre-order Halo 5, moment I know what my pre-order bonuses are haha.
