Assassin's Creed Unity - Review Thread

Who cares about metacritic, God Hand and Nier also have a mediocre average on Metacritic, yet they are my favorite video games of all time.

The only good thing is that management can see that AC4 is better than Unity, which is correct IMO

You cant have a game in the metacritic 70's and pitch it as "best of class"

I think its also nicely symbolic that its even lower than Destiny (again, correct IMO)

I think a lot of people in this thread don't actually personally care about the reviews. They care because of their effect on game development and the more casual parts of the market.

Consoles have had terrible performance issues since the PS1/N64 era and it will never change as developers focus on pushing tech rather than framerates. Very few games actually run at 30 and never drop, and even less at 60. Build a PC and enjoy smooth, consistent performance for the first time in your life!

I'm still tempted to get this with my buy 2 games get 1 free deal at Target.

The only game I know I'm getting is Halo: MCC. Other options include Metro Redux, Sleeping Dogs Remastered, and Forza.

This. If you buy it cheap and can get rid of it, then go ahead. The game isnt garbage, its just subpar versus all the other high quality games right now like sunset overdrive

I wanna do this...cause not only have I never played a powerful PC...I've never even seen it real life.

Every one of the front page reviews gave Assassins Creed 3 a higher review bar Videogamer and most of then are glowing reviews about Assassins Creed 3's perfection.

Either the game is really that bad or I'm in opposite land. I feel like I might be in opposite land.
I hope I am in opposite land.

Sure, but there's a difference between running at 30 and never dropping and running below 30 most of the time. The technical problems of this game are far beyond you're typical console game, this generation anyways. Even WD ran better.

Dragon age it is

This is the issue, there are so many good games out already or next week. Unity isnt garbage, its just not a good game. Shadow of mordor looks and plays so much better for example. If you have an xbox one get sunset overdrive. It looks like Dragon Age is a fantastic and huge game. If you want open world & dont want mordor, GTA V is next week - fantastic game on prior consoles and now the framerate gets fixed (with a bunch of other improvements). It looks like FC4 is a refinement of FC3 and a high quality game.

Or just get AC4. That was a good game. Just dont pay full price for this, its too risky.

All this just proves how important having a relative glitch free game is to some reviewers. The ones giving 8's are implying the game is a 10 or 11 if not for the mess the tech is if you take the collective problems seen

They knew what they were doing. Check their stock price being hit on Watchdogs.

Delaying wold cause a lot of cost both directly and indirectly.

They would have spent more money on development/testing etc directly.

They would move out of the lucrative holiday season sales (and for example the xbox one bundle)

They would have shifted the revenue into a different financial year hitting their yearly goals.

They would have been spending time on finishing this game versus developing the sequel (or at least sequel to the engine)

Financially it was probably the right call. They need their next game to be excellent however (like COD AW delivered after the disappointment of ghosts)

Still trying to understand the connection to my post...
But if you think I'm defending Ubi, don't worry because I'm not.

You're in opposite land, AC3 is the best in the series.

Just saying that ubisoft probably predicted the reaction and correctly ran the numbers and knew that financially it would be better to sell the game (before the holiday) versus pay all the costs to make the game a high quality, polished game.

Before you know it, 2015 will be here and another AC or two. The sooner they shipped unity, the sooner the team can start on the next version (AC 15 or whatever)

Wow, I'm glad I read the reviews before I went to go pick my pre-order up. Definitely moving my down-payment over to dragon age:I or far cry 4

Nooooooo! This is a special kind of hell!

I don't mind AC3 too much, I enjoyed it but it was very obvious it was unfinished, buggy but the biggest offences was the piss poor story. Personally a 6/10 for me. Playable but not memorable.

Really don't say this often but I really hope that this is seen as a failure by Ubisoft, they need to really start thinking about what they're doing again and a guaranteed million dollar annual return from a game series doesn't benefit us at all.

I hope reviewers who review both the Xbox One version and PS4 score the graphics part higher on the Xbox One version as it runs smoother and at a higher frame rate in crowds.

PREVIEW FOR FUN:

I guess I'm missing something what the story behind that face?

Management wont be happy with lower scores from mainstream sites.

They spent a lot of money on this game and the return on investment isnt great from a scores perspective.

Is there ANY chance at all that Ubi will fix these frame rate problems in the near future?

Or will this be a case of, 'sorry suckers we got your money. See ya for next years release,'

Yeah, It's obvious that the game needed more time.
It's just a shame that new and interesting features in the game are ruined by technical problems.

Indeed. I think a lot of folks at Ubisoft just buried their heads in the sand and hoped no one would notice the terrible frame rates. Pretty bad really.

I'm very much looking forward to seeing the post mortem on this title.

This. I don't get why people are pissed at review sites for wanting to review games, even late.

I understand Kotaku taking a stand against it, and other people being hesitant.

I'm not pissed at review sites wanting to post reviews. If they want to follow the embargos, more power to them.

I thought it was silly of Gies to say within 2 tweets that you do not get as many readers to read reviews that are posted late, so they are going to post them as soon as they are allowed, thus following the embargoes (and getting more readers =clicks), but then saying they are doing it to better server their readers. It is flat out to better server Polygon, not the readers.

Uuh...lol. I think I just found a Ubisoft employee while skimming through the PS4 metacritic reviews and it's not really the 10 for AC:U that gives it away.

Jealous much, Ubi? That being said...they should really look into that account. It's not legit, I mean look at the fucking dates.

EDIT: Jesus, another one and this one reads like a freaking advertisement:

"There may be some bugs"?!!!!!

There's a chance they'll patch it and improve it slightly. Don't get your hopes up though, it's not like they'll release some magic patch that'll fix it completely.
