Sega very happy with Valkyria Chronicles' Steam launch

All well and great but I'm more hopeful that this gets them more confident about localizing games that are already platform ready, like finally bringing in PSO2 to Steam and Yakuza 5 on consoles.

But Vanquish is the GOAT third person shooter, just ahead of or minus RE4.

I really should give Binary Domain a try.

You should and yes Vanquish is better, Vanquish is the best third person shooter of all time.

That's an odd choice. Valkyria Chronicles is a success on PC -> proceed to make a new entry in the series for PS4.

Also PC would need VC2/3 at some point if VC 4 is in the cards, I think it would be unwise to skip games in the franchise.

Not really. The games themselves are pretty standalone. There's links between the games that aren't minor, but they're not significant either because the game generally explains enough.

I still think VC3 deserves to be played by the English speaking audience, but if SEGA decides to just skip ahead to a 4th installment following the traditions that's established by the previous games, then skipping to 4 is fine.

Just don't call it VC4. Subtitle it.

good for them. now give back and start working on VC4.

not very odd. you won't get this series exclusive on PC, ever. it will be targeted at japanese audience first. so PS3/PS4/PC is most likely atm. like 0.01%.

I still think it's important that entries not be skipped. There's no real reason not to imo. There's a niche on steam where handheld games can do alright. marvelous with half minute hero comes to mind.

Last time they targeted the game at the Japanese audience first it didn't go well for the franchise.

If they really want to do a sequel they should do so with their international audience in mind. Ignoring PC for a bigger budget strategy game is leaving money on the table. Especially since SEGA has a lot of success with strategy titles on the platform. Total War, CoH, Relic's stuff ect.

Now, don't be like that. Better late than ever and hopefully they realize now what they missed all these years and how powerful the franchise can get if one doesn't disregard PC.

Sorry, I didn't want to sound harsh (English is not my native language). Hopefully this will lead to great things.

Hope whoever pushed for this (since this wasn't a result of the petition) gets a promotion - guy made a great call in pulling a six year old game out for a new platform.

And maybe you could take the VC name and do something new with it, too, Sega. And keep those ports coming.

I don't know, having played a few hours of the game now, I would describe it as a visual novel rather then a RPG. It's pretty much Sakura Wars with greater focus on combat.

Anyhow, it's been worth the 6 years of waiting so far.

After all the recent decisions regarding Sonic and reading that Aliens Colonial Marines pitch (and realizing someone actually gave it the "go ahead"), it's kind of surprising that there are still some people with good judgement and common sense left at SEGA.
Sometimes SEGA just seems to be run by people with no knowledge whatsoever about the industry...

I'd love for them to put Shenmue and Yakuza on PC (Steam, maybe a special order for retail copies), just for kicks. C'mon, Sega. Do it!

Its nothing new really. I've been following Sega for two decades now and their ability to go from the sublime to ridiculous and then back again no longer surprises me anymore. But that's why I fear for the next port they try. Something will go wrong, something always goes wrong.

Even in their heyday of pumping out one quality game after another the direction at the top was atrocious. But to look on the positive side, if they had better management in place some of the games I love may not have been greenlit in the first place. I think a more sensible management would have run a mile from Shenmue when they saw the budget. I'm glad they didn't. I certainly miss that poor decision making over today's poor decision making.

Good let people discover the marvel that is VC. My first big revelation of the PS3 erathat has been under appreciated for years.

Now can we please have a localisation for VC3 please :(

SEGA bro love <3

Also I love TPS, one of my favorite genres. I firmly believe Vanquish is the peak of the genre so far as mechanics are concerned.

I'm so glad it's selling well. There are so many forgotten gems that deserve a second chance, hopefully this encourages others to put their stuff on PC too.

I would love Nier on PC.

That would be awesome. And isn't it a UE3 game? If so, it would probably be a lot easier to port than e.g. VC (or FF13 for that matter).

btw, how many units did this game sell when it was released on the ps3 ?

I always found it wierd that Sega made the sequels on the psp instead of the ps3.

Cavia is no more and SE was just the publisher. It's basically impossible at this point.

Yoko Taro is also unemployed right now.

Custom engine, I think.
Drakengard 3 is UE3 though. Not sure if we want it... :\

Wasn't performance one of the big problems with the drakengard games? I mean I've heard mixed reviews about Drakengard 3 in general, but there are a few games that seem like they would shine brighter if ported over for performance reasons alone. I know this is true for a number of ps2-gen games as well, and some of the first releases on last gen systems.

One thing I'm hoping for is that even if we only see a few more of these sorts of releases, the sales will provide further incentive for doing better ports with more features (although I doubt any company really wants to spend the money).

Even something done by two fresh CS graduates over a week long deadline would still be better than portrocities Squeenix has been releasing lately.

I can tell you that DmC 2013 @ 60 FPS was a great experience. I may not have appreciated the game as much if I played it on PS3.

As VC shows, you don't even need "more features". Just provide the essentials every PC gamer expects, and make sure the game performs well. That's what VC does, and I haven't really seen anyone complain much about the port.

But it has more features - enhanced water reflections and, uhh, achievements. :)

DigitalDevilSummoner shitting up another thread and twisting something positive into a negative again.

I´m getting Bayonetta 2 flashbacks.

I always found it wierd that Sega made the sequels on the psp instead of the ps3.
It was their attempt to reduce the production costs and make it more popular in Japan....which didn´t work out all too well (but hey, it was enough for a third game ).

I´m looking forward to VC 2 HD, wherever it may land (Vita/consoles/PC) .

Perhaps even more so than a localization of Valkyria Chronicles 3, I hope Sega realizes how remarkable the original game was and the team that developed it and gives them a chance to work on a new AAA Valkyria Chronicles game. Make it multi-platform and definitely on PC. The success of the PC version shows that the move to PSP was a mistake, and it was also a mistake not to keep the original team together for the sequels. I think some of them are working on Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax and others on The World End Eclipse now. I'd rather wait for them to finish their projects rather than see Sega make another mistake and make VC4 with a different team.
