Sega very happy with Valkyria Chronicles' Steam launch

Who ended up doing the port? Sega China? They did the ports of Sonic Adventure 2 to the consoles and PC - they did some great work.

This just came to me; putting your old stuff on the bargain bin is great en' ol but could something useful come out of this and will Sega localize Valkyria Chronicles III ? Possibly handing the port over to HexaDrive ?! Daydreaming...

And I see a lot of Vanquish talk in this thread. I beat that yesterday mostly due to NeoGAF hype. It was pretty good, too. Not the greatest thing in the world, but pretty fun.

First playthrough, I felt the same thing but it really shines during the second time you play and start completing the challenges.

Crazy pipe-dream: SEGA ports Dreamcast games with the ability to toggle on-disc DLC. It'd be great in cases where the hacking community hasn't worked its magic on the disc contents.

60 fps Vanquish? I think my dick would exceed its current peak dimensions.

What other SEGA games do we need?

Bayonetta? Jet Set Radio Future? Yakuza? Vanquish? All the Atlus games?

LITERALLY THE ENTIRE WORLD IS POSSIBLE

What other SEGA games do we need?

This logic seriously upsets me: Why other ?!

How about a game doing well means that the franchise will be strengthened instead of more random stuff be thrown into the bargain bin ? Why should I care that Sega is pleased if it doesn't lead to anything productive -like the VC III localization-. Binary Domain on steam lead to nothing and I can live with that because it possibly didn't sell that well. Now it actually happened: a port did in fact sell. Does that mean anything to me as a gamer ? I usually avoid Sega threads because they remind me of their gross incompetence as publishers.

I could see them doing that alongside either a new game or a PSP sequel, actually.

I can see we are collectively daydreaming.

Boy, you really seem to not be happy about any of this. How is bringing a game to a new platform NOT productive? To a system where the right game can sell like crazy.
They shouldn't be stopped to bring over games that people actually want only because Binary Fucking Domain, a game which barely anyone asked for, didn't not sell.

Sorry, you lost me at bargain bin

I am a pessimist and this is Sega we are dealing with.

My prediction is that we will see a PC port of 3DS version of Altered Beast next.

Don't make me sound like the bad person, I am merely being pragmatic. And you are answering your own question. They are bringing a game over, they are not making anything new.

The reason I mentioned Binary Domain (which is a killer game and I played thanks to the Steam version) is simple: whether a port sells or not the end result is the same.

Sorry, you lost me at bargain bin

Why ?
When a product's life on the "shelf" has come to an end since it's no longer lucrative, it's moved to the "bargain bin", where shop intents to more greater volumes at a lower price. The problem is that we are talking about a product that has been abandoned or discontinued.

Let's be honest, calling for other games, means we actually agree. No ?

This makes no technical sense. Altered Beast 3D is designed for the 3DS' screen resolution, and M2 has enough projects with other clients that not even Okunari could make them do the job. Maybe SEGA would give VC Duel instead, assuming the whole company's out to troll us with what we least desire. And Dengeki Climax, for that matter, would out-perform expectations thanks to Steam's waifu tribe.

SEGA's killer franchise, Sonic, isn't doing well at the moment (Boom project having failed and Sonic Team's game up in the air), and the executives have stated an interest in developing title for the digital market. They're more likely to consider Steam trends when planning new products for West and East; a new Valkyria Chronicles has potential to succeed worldwide on this platform.

Speaking completely pragmatically, Sega porting Valkyria Chronicles to PC is more useful to me than anything they did for the past five years. If you asked the logic behind "why others?", my answer would be "as a gamer, I want those."

Exactly.

Perfectly acceptable but that's not the context in which I used "productive".

FROM, Square Enix and now Sega..looks like we can expected a lot more console-only titles now being ported/released into PC market.

Mmm, then I must admit I don't understand your derision. I understand that you want them to put out something new and localize Valkyria Chronicles 3. I want that too, but putting more value to it just by the virtue of it being more "productive" is not really "pragmatic" to me.

now being ported

Why now ? Square and Sega -as publishers- port games all the time. From on the other hand did nothing. It was Bandai the publisher that did. The problem is that Japanese publishers have given up on producing high profile games, at least with some consistency.

Sega -the publisher- being "happy" irks me the same way people get mad at ubisoft for making money for crappy games. In non of these cases we the gamers see anything in return. I just couldn't care less about Ubi or EA.

Sega is my EA !

what...exactly do you want to "see in return" besides the game you paid for?

you want them

the devil is in the details: it's not what's useful to me or you, it's the collective of people that have payed for VC on every platform that essentially call for this. it's a franchise, we can all agree that great games should not be abandoned.

Zeyphersan was bothered by my using of "bargain bin" but still by calling for "other" games recognizes that porting a game (even if it's successful) does nothing for the franchise. which is really sad.

very good question: when I buy full retail price (the "shelf" life span of a game) I want to show my support to the studio as well, not just own the game for the sake of having it in my collection or the satisfaction of playing it sooner. I want to vote with my wallet to encourage / finance in advance more of this. It's the only way to sent the message in a concrete way that I will support them in their next venture.

Exactly, and that's why I don't understand your derision. You are upset by people wanting more PC ports and even questioned the logic behind it. But you said yourself that it's not about me or you. Obviously there are also a collective of people who want the ports of Valkyria Chronicles and other games. You want what you want. I want what I want. People want what they want.

Can't people want them, anyway? You said that "we gamers don't get anything in return" but I feel like you are only counting a subset of "gamers" there. Could you clarify?

More PC ports or rather efforts to increase the size of the audience for SEGA IP, isn't a bad thing. The choice wasn't Valkyria 4 on PS4 or Valkyria Chronicles on PC, it was Valkyria Chronicles on PC or no Valkyria Chronicles for sometime.

Bayonetta? Jet Set Radio Future? Yakuza? Vanquish? All the Atlus games?

LITERALLY THE ENTIRE WORLD IS POSSIBLE

1. Shenmue
2. Skies of Arcadia
3. OutRun2
4. Panzer Dragoon Orta
5. Super Monkey Ball 1
6. Planet Harriers
7. Daytona USA 2
8. Jet Set Radio Future
9. Gunvalkyrie
10. Otogi
11. Vanquish
12. Bayonetta
13. Border Break
14. Virtua Fighter 5
15. Phantasy Star Online 2

Just release the goddamn games.

Didn't expect it to make it back to #1, even for a short while. It's pretty impressive given the full-priced competition.

Bayonetta would do better than Valkyria, im 100% positive.
I'm not at all convinced of that. The character action game genre isn't that popular on PC.

Didn't DmC do pretty well on PC? But yes, I do feel Bayonetta is a riskier bet than something like Vanquish or Resonance of Fate.

Great to see VC doing so well, it deserves it. Not getting it though since I already own the PS3 version.

Skies of Arcadia HD, on the other hand... I would LOVE to play that on my Vita.

The logical conclusion to all this is that PC will end up getting ports of all existing games and its the only platform we will ever need. #oneconsolefuture

Well... Metal Gear Rising seems to have done pretty well. Now it's a Metal Gear game...
But to be fair, I think character action game genre would be popular on PC if we had the correct titles. Beside MGR, the only other title we had this generation was DMC4... as for DmC... well...

it's best to ignore that guy's posts on pc games. happens every time.
