Think Back to the Future.

It's the day's newspaper that changes because it's the one was always gonna buy...
I hate time travel, I really do. I was worried that would start pulling this crap in this show, but hopefully they keep it to a minimum.

Comic book time travel is even worse. I would rather they just ditched the newspaper thing.

I'm calling it now, I'm gonna have a headache once when finally know how and why Reverse Flash is here.

Everyone on the show will too.

Caitlin and Cisco will have a geeky discussion about it, Joe will go 'time-travel' and shrug, Iris will blog, Barry will be concerned about the possible death toll, and Harrison will realise he lost his copy of the sports almanac and it's in the hands of the man who terrorised his father and mother as teenagers.

Thomas Wayne.

I liked this episode. Well-paced, sympathetic villain, good character moments. They even managed to correct last week's "Barry revealed himself to the bad guy" blunder by killing the latter off (in theory). Wells has gotten plenty of development so far so I'd like them to focus more on Caitlin and Cisco.

Minor gripe: The flash wasn't moving nearly fast enough at the end to outrun that guy's energy blast, but yet he did...

Time travel was clearly a part of the show since episode one. And this version of it shouldn't be difficult to understand given that it appears to use the linear one timeline approach, which means that if Wells is from the future then he is deliberately altering the past to change the future.

What if the last scene where
Wells takes a sample of his blood is not to stop Barry but for the reverse flash? Maybe he is a good guy afterall? This episode made it seem like he might be a "do whatever is necessary" kinda good guy.

We're getting into comic book logic here, but how does a newspaper from the future change if it's in the present? That makes no sense
I'm beginning to wonder if Wells' first major invention was making a computer that can look forward into the future. It would explain why his significant other still died (if he cared about her). It shouldn't be hard for him to keep her alive if he came from the future knowing how she died already.

So... how'd Iris take down Tockman?

She had boxing/self defense training from her father.

I think it's more than that.

If he's from the future, then he knows who becomes what. So he's changed Cisco and Caitlin's lives by having them work at Star Labs, he's radically changed Ronnie's life given he's anything but a genius in every other version and as such might be able to be a far better Firestorm than he's ever been, he tried to stop The Rogues being born and was pissed when Cisco created Cold's gun, and he's going to either liberate or unleash Grodd.

The guy has basically begun creating his own personal Flash canon - I mean he even talked Plastique into a suicide run to stop her from joining Team Flash. The dude is approaching Superboy Prime levels of 'I CAN FIX IT' retconning.

Wells has to be the most complex character in network television since... since I do not even know. Angel or Spike comes to mind, but he is different.

I think you may be assuming Wells knows more than he does. There's no evidence he's aware of Captain Cold or Gorilla Grodd, maybe in his timeline Cold never existed without Cisco's gun or Grodd either. Plus that's if he's even from the future, and not just aware of certain elements through his computer.

Plus if you were going to shape Flash's rogue gallery, why would you be upset about Cold but help create Grodd? Grodd is a far bigger threat to actually killing Barry, all respect to Leonard.

Propably because the newspaper is in the future and Wells just has way of accessing a computer system that exist in the future.

His reaction re: the cold gun was way over the top for 'something that could hurt Barry.'

Because we already know his primary motivation is protecting Barry. We don't know if he specifically knows about Captain Cold, and if he was worried about legendary Flash villains then Grodd should be a lot higher up the list.

I've got to wonder that given Wells' desire to protect Barry that if he is from the future (and I'm still unsure about that) then maybe he's Barry Allen's descendent. And being in the present where the timeline diverges may protect him from any changes in the future. Then again maybe he needs to protect him for a nefarious, rather than selfless, purpose.

But I imagine they'll throw all sorts of curve balls down the line.

Yes, I know time travel has been there since episode one. I even stated this in reply to another poster a few pages back.

It's doesn't need to be difficult to understand to induce a headache.

I'm not a comic reader so my knowledge of Flash is limited but I was just wondering if Wells naming his computer Gideon has any special significance. Is there a Gideon associated with Zoom, Flash or DC comics in general?

Protecting Barry, sure.

But his healing factor healed him from the cold burns pretty quick. And his anger towards Cisco was way worse than his anger at Barry being poisoned the episode before. I just get the sense he couldn't say why he was so mad, so he pretended Cisco was the problem. And as pointed out, he had Grodd in captivity and by all accounts Grodd was pretty damn docile inside that cage at the time.

This guy has no problem killing people to protect Barry. If he had any idea what Grodd was capable of, that monkey would be well and truly dead. I just can't see him being that angry about Captain Cold of all people.

I think
"Wells" killed the real Wells and his wife and took his place, moved somewhere where nobody knows him.

And Iris shot Tockman in the leg with Eddie's gun.

I don't know, but a quick google gave me this (spoiler tags just in case):

Gideon

Wait...is Wells a New God? There's a New God named Gideon, and of course there's a time-traveling New God who's almost always seen seated, named Metron.

Also: I'm betting that
Wells experiments on the hospitalised Eddie Thawne and the reverse flash we see in the show is Thawne from the future
.

A boring article that talks about rocket attacks launched by anti-government terrorists, and that Central City has veto power with the security council. It mentioned the last bit three times in an obvious cut and paste job.

If they're going to feature a fake article multiple times then they could at least put effort into writing it.

If Eddie really is the Reverse Flash they made a big mistake. He should have healed from that GSW in no time.

Also: Dat Crossover trailer! So good!

If we assume that Reverse Flash can time travel when he killed Barry's mom, then I think he has enough mastery over his powers to slow down the healing process so he can keep his cover intact. I don't buy the fact that he didn't see Barry grab the flowers in that scene.

There are a lot of ways Eddie being RF could happen.

1) He gets powers from Wells after this point.
2) He gets his powers from a suit (as Eobard did in the comics)
3) He's faking? That one I don't buy. Too much risk.

Here's a weird thing, assuming no time travel shenanigans-- Wells clearly doesn't have speed and Eddie appears to have no speed this episode, yet we've seen RF in present time already. That's the biggest outlier for me. Why would he time travel to the specific time to threaten Joe?

Better quality.

That makes sense about Wells.

I was assuming NotTheGuyYouKill believes Clock King somehow got the upperhand because he did deflect the gun shot in a way that wouldn't explain the bullet hitting his leg.

I was partially surprised that this ep didn't end with something leading into the crossover next week.

Granted, I guess Arrow didn't either.

Well not overtly

Judging from that article Starling city was never rebranded into Star City, which means Ray fucked up.

Queen Inc being able to merge with Waynetech probably does not bode well for Ray either.

Though it is interesting that the paper says Queen Inc and not Queen Consolidated.

Anything else we can over-read into on the paper?

I like they have shown Iris as competent, she took down a villain.
I suspect both Blackout and Tony are still alive, somehow.
