Amiibo Discussion Thread

Absolutely pathetic showing here in the UK on launch day. Neither of my local supermarkets had them in stock at all, our HMV has ceased stocking all Nintendo products so no joy there. In Game they have an entire wall dedication to Skylanders/Infinity, but I only saw 5 amiibo. Three were hung up behind the counter (Marth, Pikachu, Yoshi), and there were two right at the bottom of a New Releases plinth at the front of the store (Fox, WFT). I would never have seen them if I wasn't looking.

Four of my amiibo, asleep on the job: Stairfax (Fox), Boosta (DK), Ditzy (Peach), and The Fonz (Mario). Not pictured: Marshie (Kirby) and Ja Rule (Yoshi).

what a mess in the UK but luckily my local indie had them:

Perfect Link and Marth so happy!

Will update picture later, my iphone decided to try be an artist....

I also managed to get Kirby, Wiifit and Villiger from shopto

I have no idea how I will get gamecube adapter as I cannot find it.

Holy crap. I preordered four Amiibo from Amazon UK, and three have already shipped and should be here today. But I just received an email stating that the estimated arrival time for the Villager I preordered is 19th December!

So I went to Toys R Us before work this morning, didn't see any Amiibo, asked an employee there... They didn't even know what a whats-it-called is. They didn't know if it arrived and when it would be sold.

Pretty similar to my experience, they eventually found a box with 4 derpy looking Links in the storage, I picked one of the lesser derpy ones and left very sad.
Also, a kid (maybe 13?) tried to buy Pokemon Omega Ruby, but they had to call his mum to verify he was allowed to, because he was "too young". Is that a thing with Pokemon!?

I thought I would only get one, now I own five. Will post a picture once the 5th one arrives from Amazon. Should be any moment now. Kirby wasn't at the store yesterday.

Got a message from my local retailer, will get my Yoshi amiibo tomorrow. So I will at least have one to level up over the weekend, the Villager will arrive next week..

Not sure I'll get anything from Wave 2. I like Captain Falcon but the stand just looks so dumb on his figure. I probably would have preferred his car for F-Zero to this.

Glad I kept my villager pre-order, even though I won't have him till next week now, because "amazon reasons".

Went to a smaller Saturn (big electronics retail chain) and again they only showed me a small box of them, two equally derpy Links, one horrible looking Marth, no Villager, no WFT, no Kirby.

All you crazy people who bought duplicates to sell them off should have no problems selling them to starved Europeans.

I was at Saturn yesterday and there also was no Kirby, 2 Villagers and one Yoshi. More than enough from the rest.

Apparently, my local GAME store had a midnight release for Smash and ORAS, so the one adapter they had quickly got bought. Same with the Villager Amiibo, much to my sadness. Ending up buying the one Marth Amiibo they had. Apologies for the poor quality

Falchion is bent slightly, and its scabbard is bent quite a bit. Probably due to how wavy his cape is. The face is all right, though the quality of my picture would suggest otherwise. Luckily, I know someone who dabbles with toys/figures and paint, so I might ask him to touch up where he thinks appropriate. Other than that, I can't really say much else. The two Fox Amiibos they had were both in great quality. In hindsight, I should've picked one up, but I wanted to buy Persona Q instead. Which, of course, they didn't have

I really don't know why but I want to spend £130 on getting all 12 of these. When you see them altogether at that price, that's when you worry about your sanity. lol.

Suc-fucking-cess. Went to GameStop were they had exactly 7 amiibos. 3 cross-eyed Links (I guess they are all like that, sigh), 2 Donkey Kongs, WFT (!) and an okay looking Villager (!!). Kirby still nowhere to be seen, but I bought the nice looking Villager and am now heading home to cancel my amazon pre-order.

Also, when asked whether I could ore-order Shulk, turns out I could pre-order everything (including Lucario) BUT Shulk at GameStop (no Meta-Knight either, but whatever). And then another hilarious scene when a woman walked in, trying to buy a Wiimote. "What do you mean, from Nintendo? I bought these clear ones once, they were only ten bucks!"
Adventures in retail!

Kinda want a Kirby now. D:

Derpy (Link) and Charmy (Villager) are cool though.

I forgot to add won't they just keep making lots of these over time? In other words it's just mass buying right now as they're just released, and not that they'll ever really be rare?

Short answer is that it's too early to tell.

It really depends on how successful Amiibos end up being and how successful this first line of Smash figures ends up being. If these keep selling, they will keep making them. Alternately, if only the popular characters are selling, presumably they will not reprint the less well known characters.

Also, it depends on how much cycling Nintendo does with the line. Maybe the Smash figures will be gone by next spring and instead they'll have lines of toys based on whatever games Nintendo is selling at that point?

I have been thinking about this topic since these figures were announced. All sorts of Nintendo products have become rare and valuable over time, but it probably doesn't help that they are marketing these directly to collectors. One can't help but be reminded of all of the "limited edition" comic books that were released in the early 90s that never went up in value because they were widely bought up by collectors in their initial run.

There are a huge number of people collecting them in this thread alone, which obviously doesn't bode well. The only thing I really see guaranteeing the value of these early figures is if Amiibos as a thing end up becoming significantly more popular in the future, after this initial run has ended.

From what's been mentioned in this thread, it looks like Nintendo has no plans to produce Amiibos for all the characters past this initial run. Some will be phased out. The more popular ones like Mario and Link will get multiple production runs, but characters like Wii Fit Trainer and Villager that are less popular will be limited. That's why most people are jumping on them while they last.

Are all of you buying these for Smash? I have no real interest in Smash (although I did buy the bundle in the hopes that in the not too distant future Nintendo will let me use the adapter to play Gamecube games). I just think these things are cute and a nice figure to put on my desk.

I finally created an Amiibo in game (Yoshi), and it's pretty cool. I took him over to my cousins during Thanksgiving and he went from level 10 to level 34 in about a half hour lol

Thanks for the insights.

I'm buying to use and for decoration. Just picked up a Wii with Mario Kart 8, and I'll be getting Smash Bros.

I wonder if Nintendo is planning a retro-themed wave of Amiibo.

If Pac-Man, ROB, Mr. G&W, Duck Hunt and Dr. Mario are all part of the same wave I'm gonna go broke.

I brought six of them yesterday toys r us had buy one get the next for 40% off. I got Mario, link, samus, donkey Kong, fox, and princess peach

Reporting in from Aus!

The game comes out tomorrow and I paid everything off today. The flagship EB Games store in Perth is out of Fox, Villager, Link, Yoshi and now Marth.

JB Hifi however has a lot of stock, they have at least 10-15 of each figure. Will be interesting to see how many sell tomorrow.

I have paid for all of them, RIP Wallet.

Went to my local GAME today when they opened to pick up Pokémon and check if they had any amiibos. Saw some Link and Mario in the back room but none in the store.
Asked if it was pre-order only and the manager told me they had one single amiibo to sell and that they didn't even get enough of the others to cover pre-orders. Not even the common ones like Yoshi.
Fox was the one they had and he's one of the four I wanted so I got him. Can't find anything wrong with him. Was a bit sceptical when I picked him up to look at him since I wanted to check a few to compare them but he was perfect. Amazed at all the little details like the logo on the back, all the zippers and so on.
Still don't really want to order any of them online due to the risk so either I wait for GAME to get more or go to some other place to look. But in northern sweden everything is very far away :P Hopefully I can find Pikachu, Kirby and Samus later.

I was in some stores today, however only one toy store actually had some Amiibos, but the ones that were left looked very unfortunate with dodgy paints. There was only one Kirby and it had this really weird seam in the back on his butt, do they all have that?

Ended up getting Mario and Donkey Kong amiibos while I was out last night. Now I have 5, and Captain Falcon coming next month. :x

thankfully there aren't a ton more characters that I really wanna get. Maybe 8 at the most. Just trying to get the characters I like most over having a complete collection, I really like the figures themselves.

Nooo, stop teasing!

Kirby just went up to the price of 18,51 EUR on amazon.de, while everything except cheap Link is at 14,99. Whhhyyy. I really want it now!!

Also here are Derpy and Charmy with the world-renowned Tic-Toc from Blue's Clues (not an amiibo yet) on my shelf.

I have Mario, Link and DK, but I think I'm gonna pick up Samus and Fox too, because they are great, really. Marth has the dumbest face ever, but the other parts of the figure are really good too..tempted, but I'll resist waiting for the real deal (Ike)

Saw them in person for first time today. Didn't realise how tiny they are.

I was only gonna get 1 or 2 anyway, but at that size I don't think they are big enough to put on display and still be seen.

That's why I think it's silly when people complain about really tiny details. Granted, I'm not much of an action figure collector, so I'm talking out my ass, but I saw a bunch of close up pictures of Link's face looking silly (not MARTH silly, but different sized pupils ect). When I got mine, it's so tiny that I would have never ever noticed if my link had two different sized pupils. It's like, a pin-point sized dot.

They don't have to be big for things to look "off". Sometime you don't even see what it is that makes it look "off" until you stare at them and compare stuff :P
Different sized pupils might not be so bad on Link (since his horrible pose makes it hard to see anyway) but it would look bad on Kirby, Villager and others.

Last time I went to GS to check out if they had any Marth (they didn't D: ), the guy told me that the next batch wouldn't have colored plastic leg supports, that they would be transparent instead...

Anybody else heard about this? If that's true, the colored legs could become quite valuable with time amongst collectors.

Never heard anything like that but I'll keep them unopened for now then.
