Destiny: Exotic weapons fixed.... and then broken.

He wouldn't need to upgrade the gun for PvP but if he plans to use it for PvE then yes.

Except you do, Exotics are often not that good until you unlock their exotic traits like you know the one he mentions Thorn. Many other Exotics aren't anything special until you level them to their specialties.

It probably have already been answered already, but what happen if i get a old exotic after the patch is out? Will it be on par with dlc exotics, or will i have to upgrade it to xur first?
(If it's not clear, if i get a gjalahorn the 10, will it be maxed at 300 or more?)

But wait. Do reset exotics start at 302 or something? That would make a reset somewhat more worthwhile. But then again, I take it you are losing your perks and leveling up to the second perk already takes days of hardcore playing.

Don't worry tho, you can do more than one a week.

Yes, reset at a higher attack stat (302) but no perks.

The biggest thing that has put me off this game is will this happen after every level rise? So basically I max my level 32 exotic then in three months when the next dlc hits and most probably level rise I will have to do this crap all over again?

Not exactly.

By then you will have piled up a good amount of exotic shards.

So they'll introduce a new material, I don't know, exotic core or something.

All the new materials and stuff are about resetting progress with each DLC. It's the reason they just obsoleted all your ascendant shards and energies, for example.

While I agree that Xur should be here more, I am not aware of any job that requires someone to work for 48 hours straight. You can log in and get to Xur in under 5 minutes. :p

Thats not the point. Friday - work all day, come home, do real life shit, pass out.

Wake up Saturday - goto work, come home, do real life shit, pass out.

Wake up Sunday - OH FUCK! I forgot to check Xur... UGHHHH

It happens to me alot. Its my own fault.

But some people have real lives (I know fuck me right?) and cant be logging in to check out a virtual store all the time.

And btw: Firefighters work 48 hours on, 48 hours off.

Bungie confirmed to hate Firefighters.

The quality of Destiny's gunplay is matched only by the hatred it's gameplay gating design team has for the players

For real. Destiny could be an AMAZING game--like, the gunplay, movement, etc. mechanics are best in class.

And yet, I am one more insult away from selling it. I have no problem waiting for a discounted version with all DLC included, because then at least it might have enough content to justify the price.

It's the gaming equivalent of an unhealthy/abusive relationship.

I believe that the Gjallahorn drop will still be a normal drop and need to have an exotic shard put into it to upgrade it to post-DLC max stats. Again, this is a way to take old loot and make it viable for post-DLC max level content.

I know, but it's inexcusable that there's no ability to at a minimum see everyone online from your clan in game.

It's MMO 101...

You're not wrong about this. I'm in RaidGAF clan, but I don't think I've played but once with the group. This needs to be fleshed out.

They don't even need to add bubbles, just trade to xur for a gun that has the last three bubbles unleveled, but with a higher base damage.

Wait a minute. Are you suggesting Bungie should make it less grindy and more rewarding for players to upgrade their current set of weapons?

Get out.

Seriously though, your suggestion would've been ideal in terms of upgrading the massive amount of exotics I (like many, many other people) have..

Aren't you choosing to limit yourself from playing raid for material? If you're level 25 or 26 it's accessible.

Material is also available from grinding marks from a ton of different options.

The time to get 21 material is less than the time to get 200,000k+ XP I'd imagine.

But doesn't Raid stuff open another can of worms with the matchmaking vs no matchmaking snafu (or did they change that)

So by them removing ascendant materials from exotics and the new crotas gear that means they are only useful for upgrading stuff from factions and vanguards? To people who have hundred of each the uses for these materials got cut in half while introducing not one, but TWO new upgrade currencies for end game items.

I understand that people can buy new gear after they have gotten the proper amount of commendations to use some of those ascendants but if people can raid right from the beginning which is what they will do first instead of leveling up vanguards and they will get most pieces of raid gear from normal that requires radiant materials which they will need to wait weekly to be able to get more of.

Getting stuff from the vanguards now seems more like second thought. Besides people who get new primaries with the higher attack ratings since those won't be dropped from Crotas End until hard mode is released. Only other source to use them is on VoG raid gear but quite a few seem to have mostly all the pieces they'll need to tackle Crotas End.

Yes, I've played an MMO, this happens all the time. I'll give it to you that it is definitely not this quick for gear to become obsolete. I have not played one like Warframe. I still stand by my statement that if you are really getting upset by this then you truly aren't playing the game for fun. The grinding should be fun, I never understood doing something that wasn't fun. And you don't need to grind, for all anyone cares you could get all that back just playing strikes and goofing off with friends over the next couple months. It takes longer than grinding 3 characters each day to maximize your output, but then you are just turning it into a job of something you "need" to do, which isn't fun.

Come on, man. If we're upset by this, we truly aren't playing the game for fun? Sorry, I love the gameplay, but there is shit-all to do in this game at this point.

Leveling up gear, and hoping to get new gear to level up, is literally the end game--and yeah, at times, it's a fucking chore.

I DO play with friends--it's the only time I play. I'm not going to sit around and play level 26 Strikes "for fun" when there is no variance or clever design to the strikes, nor are the rewards ever good.

The time I have to set aside a long play session for something like a raid (even part of it) is not comparable with most of the population, even the GAFers here. Late night on the west coast. So no, I'm not choosing to exclude myself. I just have a busy life that's not very compatible with arranging large groups for extended play sessions.

I am going to try and schedule some time earlier in the day with one of the DestinyGAF raiding groups in the few weeks, as I just hit level 26 recently. In addition, the DestinyGAF crew strongly suggested that I hit level 27 or have more upgraded gear first - both of which require ascendant materials. So I'm looking at about a week of daily missions, and that's assuming I get the right materials. It takes time.

As a related aside, all this work put into my legendary gear does have the affect of making me attached to it. If I had to piss that away to continue the progression or to keep it relevant, I'd be pretty upset. I imagine that feeling is magnified with exotics.

Oh hey what's up fellow RaidGAFer...
Same boat. Joined up hoping for raids... Haven't raided once. Using the app to coordinate this kind of thing is ridiculous... And I don't like making Xbox Friends/PSN friends with people I don't know in RL...

I played the demo for a couple of days during the weekend (I reached level 7 and played through all of the demo content, except the PvP stuff). I'd agree that the gameplay loop is fun enough (I wouldn't say "best in class" though), but man, oh man you can see the strings that are pulling the carrot around with the whole "grind concept" in the back. It took me right out of the game every time I played. Like I knew it was going to be a chore more than an actual game that I enjoyed. I'll be honest, I'm still somewhat tempted to *see more*, but the kind of BS that Bungie keeps pulling makes me wary.

This is such a bummer. I fired up Destiny for the first time since MCC came out last night due to the new patch. Leveled everything I could all the way to the very end since Xur wasn't around for exotic shards and I ran out of ascendant shards.

Then they do this. I guess I'll wait a few weeks after TDB to see if it gets patched. Not that it matters since I was a sucker and bought the digital guardian before all of this happened :(

Edit: Just highlighting what you said. It should be fun do to it all over again! If it's not then go play something else or stop complaining. Just my opinion tho!

Maybe if you followed the thread, you would have read my posts where I said I'd be playing other stuff while just keeping a select few weapons around for the raid and w/e I do with friends for fun.

Good job calling us all whiners and that we basically should just bend over though.

You play to enjoy the game not worry about your "hard work" being moot when more content comes out. That's pretty standard for MMOs and other MMO-like games. It should of been fun getting the old gear and to level 30 and now you should have fun trying to get the newest gear to level 32. If you are really that upset your weapons and armor are mostly going to be obsolete (they are even giving you an upgrade avenue!!) then you are playing the wrong game

Case in point. Umm how about you having fun? If you had fun doing it, then who cares, you'll have fun getting the new stuff and/or upgrading your old stuff again. If you didn't have fun doing the old stuff why the hell bother playing the game?

Because I want to enjoy the powerful gear I spent all this time grinding. There is no fucking final payoff. I don't want to grind forever. Never played a MMO before and obviously I got tricked into paying for one in Destiny. I did not expect this shit. I spent a lot time leveling up guns for this DLC that is now worthless.

So are they going to up the level of Nightfall with all these exotic weapons being leveled up and how the lvl cap is going to be raised? Two Nightfalls with better chance at an exotic? Or what?

I was really, really close to buying the expansion pass last week. Glad I didn't. I read the blog post and it's just baffling all the different currencies, materials, and reputation you need to buy/upgrade a weapon. I don't know what happened with this game but it needs to stop.

I wonder how many mobile devs Bungie hired over the past year to help them implement this bullshit. This is getting ridiculous.

I look forward to playing this game in 6-7 years when they iron out all this shit

FTFY. That 10 year plan.

The opinion of the game isn't much better on the official forums. Wow lol.
There are just some universally bad ideas. Having engrams decode to lesser rarities was one. Having to harvest location based resources in low level areas was another. Having a better chance to get rare items from a cave full of gray enemies rather than in facing the toughest strikes and missions was another. Arbitrary matchmaking support for even the non-raid activities is another.

Bungie keeps making some seemingly rookie mistakes with Destiny. I don't get it. Its like they're a bunch of busy bees with no laid out long term vision. Systems look reactive, and tailored towards abstract retention schedule targets rather than towards the creation of varied and fun player goals.

This game has been something else to watch though, from the pre-release hype to release, DLC marketing and post-release changes and fixes and additions. So crazy.

I don't understand why Xur or Eris doesn't just have a weapon modification that cost 7k glimmer and needs a shard to add bubbles to get the guns to the new cap.

Because then everyone would have level 32 gear in less than 24 hours.

Destiny has such little content that this is the only way Bungie can make people keep playing.

Hey guys you're still going to want lvl 300 gear to do the VoG raid, Nightfall and Weekly strikes as well as the normal Crota's end raid and the only place the max level gear is really going to help is hard mode crotas end.

Can't wait for the House of Wolves in march and the new currencies:

Exotic Core (to upgrade exotics)
Transcendent Shards and Energy (for raid drops)
Vanguard and Crucible Medals (for buying vanguard and crucible gear)

Meanwhile, a vault upgrade to hold all this currency and material trash is not on the table.

FTFY. That 10 year plan.

lol didn't you hear? That 10 year plan was actually a reference to the franchise and not the lifespan of Destiny--Destiny 2 is already in development.

I played the demo for a couple of days during the weekend (I reached level 7 and played through all of the demo content, except the PvP stuff). Yeah man, I dun goofed. I was completely drawn into it, I was chasing carrots for hours a day. I mean, the game can be legit fun your first time through (the raid can be fun the first few times, as well) but then the scales fall away and you're left with the endgame, aka, loot.

Depending on how the vault was originally coded yeah, it can take them time to implement a bigger vault, especially since any bugs could potentially delete player items.

Because then everyone would have level 32 gear in less than 24 hours.

Destiny has such little content that this is the only way Bungie can make people keep playing.

Yeah this is what I typed out as well.

Adding just a few nodes would mean everyone is capped out after a few weeks of playing at best. This is a very small game, with a very small amount of weapons. And with weapons I do mean exotics. Usable exotics.

They have to work around this by using such cheap tactics. This game is small and shallow. Everything there is can be explored and beaten within a day, or a mere few hours. They have to constantly find ways to keep it 'interesting'. So far, it has been a rehash mostly. Take the queen missions for example, no context or anything but just the existing story missions.

So, blatantly having players to reset their loadout would fit. Some will bite, and will be set back for a few months. Which is about the time the next DLC starts to pop up. And so on.

The opinion of the game isn't much better on the official forums. Wow lol.

There are amazingly clever solutions in the first page. Can't beleive how bungie went full retard, again, on such an important design decision.

The only thing Destiny got right in the end was art direction and combat. The core gameplay and visual are stunning, really. Everything around it is baffling amateurism

Ahahahahahahaha...

No. I was thinking about coming back to the game, but this is just... no. Who the fuck thought this was a good idea? Putting another treadmill into a game that is literally sagging from the weight of them? Having an upgrade path for your old exotics is fantastic, but this is easily the worst possible way they could have gone about doing it. "Hey guys, you know that gun you like with the really cool abilities? Well, if you want it to remain useful, first you have to grind for freaking ever to get enough Glimmer to (if Xur is feeling generous) reset that awesome gun back to the boring ass form it was in when you first got it? That way, you can spend for freaking ever leveling it back up again!"

FFS.

Dammit, why didn't I get a refund back in September?

LOL, what's the point of even doing VoG anymore? So you might get weapons which will be of no use in a level 32 raid?

You can only wear one exotic piece, so no.

You could if Bungie allowed easy upgrading of all exotics and legendaries. Then all the level 29/30 players with 300 weapons right now would be 31/32 with 331 weapons in no time at all.

I'm a fairly low level-casual Destiny player, what does this mean?

New Rank Commendations
In addition to Crucible or Vanguard Marks, purchasing new Legendary items will require a Crucible or Vanguard Commendation
Commendations are received in Reputation Reward Packages delivered by the Postmaster upon reaching a new Reputation Level

The way I see it is Bungie is basically introducing new Exotic weapons for this expansion except that most of them are named the same. When you look at it that way, it kind of makes sense. It's the same as all of the other gear on your dude. If you want to do the raid or whatever at 32, you need to get new armor and new weapons. You will be replacing everything that is on your guy right now. So complaining about how you will have to level up your exotic again is silly because you have to level everything up again.

However, it would be nice to get a stack or two of those "level weapons faster" items for free when upgrading to the Exotic 2.0.

I'm a fairly low level-casual Destiny player, what does this mean?
It means that buying things in Destiny is going to start needing charts and a power point presentation to figure out.
