Capcom's Hiroyuki Kobayashi : "Unexpected" game announcement "soon"

DMC5 should be open world. That would be sick. Imagine Dante in the Devil May Cry shop getting random calls about demon problems.

Stupid question: but is this the same Capcom title as an earlier thread where Capcom is going to announce a game? Or is it a different game?

Semi open world. Full open world would be kinda bad for a balls to walls action series. Plus performance becomes an issue with large worlds.

There is no way this ISN'T Chaos Legion 2, right guys?
110% it isn't Chaos Legion 2 because of licensing issues.

Even though I would be all over that.

Onimusha, DD2, Dino Crisis, Godhand, Okami... all would please me greatly. DMC would allow me to go Super Saiyan...

No it didn't, the series stopped at 2.

2 with a cliffhanger, such a way to leave everyone hanging.

Your red name doesn't scare me. I have evidence.

LOOK AT IT!!!

Please don't ban me.

Just an FYI... You're going to get your ass kicked the first couple times you play. You'll make it an hour or two in before getting killed messily.

It's a semi-Roguelike, in that you're supposed to grind out the first couple hours of the game to get better skills, equipment, and party XP (which can be carried over to the next playthrough) before you start tackling the later stages of the game.

Three tips:

1) Don't use D-Dive or D-Dash unless you absolutely, positively have to once the game starts tracking the percentage. (you get a brief window where the powers are "free") Try boss fights a few times before using it for even a 1% or 2% gain, because later boss fights pretty much require a Ryu who can tank a 10% hit to his percentage.
2) The game is very much a SRPG in combat. Ryu is the tank, Nina lays traps and does AOE, and Lin is ranged DPS. Picking your positions and sticking to them will really, really help you maximize your combat potential.
3) At a certain mid-point of the game, during the Scrapyard, you'll get the opportunity to cheat the system a little bit and grind some Party XP without having to replay the opening segments of the game a million times. If you recognize this area yourself, great! Use it! If not, I'll happily give you the details for it.

Ok cool, thanks for the heads up.
Have this bookmarked and when january comes around i'll PM you/
If you're not banned by then

Planning to replay it in the new year anyway, so yeah, go ahead. It'd be fun to revisit it with someone new! It'd be a cool thread, maybe?

bishoptl won't ban me, because... crap. I don't have a reason. I am so god-damned banned, aren't I?

Yeah that would make for a good thread. Sure some others would want to play as well.
I think he'll cut you some slack this once.

DD is at over 2.2 million now.

It was also the fastest/best selling new console IP in Japan last gen iirc.

As far as I can tell, those are VGC numbers.

As of Sept. 2014, Dragon's Dogma has sold
Platform : PlayStation 3, Xbox 360
Units : 1,300 thousand units

Do we have a more credible source? I suspect Dark Arisen is counted separately, but I see nothing indicating it's sold .9 million, and it's not on the Capcom Platinum Titles.

If DMC5 would break away from the linear mission ways I wouldn't want it to go any more open world than a Dark Souls 3D Metroidvania style. Full open world would hinder the action I think.

It would not only hinder the action but performance too.

Semi open world or go back to the linear stuff.

I wonder if Capcom even comprehends how "on the verge of true greatness" dragon's dogma was. I wonder if they even comprehend how big this franchise could be. Look at Skyrim. People like open world fantasy. Dragon's Dogma takes Skyrim to school in nearly ever respect -- putting it diplomatically.

Capcom. PLEASE.

If it turns out to be a big budget title, Dragon's Dogma and Devil May Cry are the only things I can think of that would legitimately excite me.
Well there's Resident Evil, which would more than likely be disappointing. But I guess that wouldn't be "unexpected."

Resident Evil would be such a weird reveal, anyway. 5 was passable, 6 was trash, both were marketed on the 360. PS fans don't wanna see RE.

You know the Cliffhanger was resolved in Dino Stalker, right?

Not entirely.
It kinda just throws everything around.

Just for more clarification for others.
It's technically resolved, but it all happens behind the scenes.
So even if it's not a complete cliffhanger since the answers are there, it's just too much of a drive by for me to really consider.

Capcom has been relatively quiet on the new releases front so...

DMC5 AND Dragons Dogma 2 + Dragons Dogma PC super mega ton inbound
