The SonyGAF shit is just sad banter from bitter folk with memories too short to recall the PS3 generation :p

But I don't necessarily think comparisons to Rise of Tomb Raider are wrong, until we get information on how this game is being funded. If Sony paid just to prevent it to go to XBO, that's wrong. If Sony paid to make the project come alive at all, that's different.

I don't think Capcom needed help to create one of their biggest IP though.

This is SF not something like Okami. Even if i am a simple casual SF player, i am a bit disappointed that Sony also did the same think as MS here. At least use that money to help vaporware like Ninty here or at least make new IP like W101.

I microwave steaks.
Limiting it to only one console is dumb. Either way, it gives me an incentive to invest in a ps4 arcade stick now.

They've gone and done it... they've gone and woke the sleeping dragon now.

Sony should have left well enough alone and now they're going to get it. It's not enough that they're bleeding benjamins from practically every crevice of their existence. Now they go and throw immense moneyhats at a niche game like Street Fighter just to piss off the market. Why pay to keep a game out of the hands of as many gamers as possible? Why not put that money into first-party studios and games instead?

I know, I know... this is the way the business goes as they say. Well, they forced Microsoft's hands with their early sales lead and Microsoft only responded with an NPD whooping (source: musings thread) by way of incredible deals and value. Microsoft will undoubtedly follow this announcement up with some real megatons of their own.

Gears remake collection. A true Banjo sequel. Halo 5 beta in the hands of gamers. The next Bayonetta, Dead Space and Crysis as exclusives. Those are the kinds of blockbuster response announcements I expect, and then some. You hit Microsoft with a jab, you best be ready for a flurry of uppercuts coming at you in response.

I love how some think we're supposed to approach our reactions to this in some kind of vacuum or time warp in which MS hadn't already moneyhatted Tomb Raider and hadn't thrown money hats around like candy last generation.

Sorry guys, we don't live in a vacuum, the generation didn't launch with this exclusivity announcement. You've got MS's behavior all last gen and their behavior this gen to compare it to, and somehow Sony is supposed to just sit back and let MS put up money to get everything either full-exclusive or timed exclusive on XB1 so that Sony can uphold some kind of honor? Please.

I frequently read about how "competition is good" as an excuse for why MS and XB1 should be doing better . . . welcome to your competition . . . it's not just for MS to partake of.

All the warriors coming out of the woodwork are the real stars of this thread. Thanks for the laughs.

Please tell me that you're both 12 years old and have to rely on your parents to buy your videogame hardware and software.

Wow, if this isn't timed then damn. I guess it was only a matter of time before Microsoft's favorite tactic to compete was taken to the next level.
Maybe Sony can pull the "we saved/funded the game" card like we saw with Dead Rising 3 and Titanfall.

Can't tell if serious.

10/10 nevertheless, this is "shot in the foot" 2014

I only have a xb1(gift) and can't afford a ps4 or a pc(broke) so my stance on this situation has been set for me. Ah well, life goes on.

If it's any consolation, it'll probably be awhile before this is out. Plenty of time to start putting away a few dollars a month / get a paper route / sell your body.

Wow this is pretty good if serious. If Microsoft made or monyhatted Banjo, Bayonetta, and Crysis games they would sell less than SFV.

I'm just happy SF5 is announced. I really enjoyed SFIV, and it was one of my most-played games of last gen.

And yeah, happy I went with PS4 this time. :)

So Sony moneyhat for SFV, everything is alright.

MS moneyhat for TR, shitstorm ensues.

Gotta love the hypocrites here.

To the surprise of no one.

Please don't argue that we're all biased toward Sony and hate MS, the situation is entirely different. ROTTR was announced for PS4, PS3, and PC as well but two months later MS announced exclusivity. People were excited for the game but now those without an X1 (let's be honest who's going to want the last gen version?) won't be able to play it next year when it releases. Two audiences (Playstation and PC) were pissed off by the announcement.

From the start, Street Fighter V was announced as a console exclusive and is also coming to PC. The Xbox Audience wasn't promised anything.

I can follow your arguments. But part of why I thought the TR deal was stupid, was because I'd rather seen the money invested in a title which wasn't in development yet, or true first party. The same goes for Sony. I don't think moneyhatting third party exclusives is a good strategy...

If Street Fighter V wouldn't have been possible without Sony support, then we're talking about something else offcourse. Not sure if we'll ever know the details of the deal (nor for TR for that matter).

Yes it is, it is preventing a gamer that owns any other platform from playing TR, basically if you dont have an Xbox One or 360, you can f*** off

And we werent even told about the temporary exclusivity until people complained and we still dont know when it even ends

What makes the TR deal even worse is that it was not an exclusive at E3, people preordered and we ready, then it was announced as an exclusive

This SFV deal can still cater to many XOne owners

No that doesnt make any sense, people have to wait longer=preventing them from ever playing it on their console of choice?

If its not timed thats exactly whats happening.
We know TR is timed but we dont know anything about this yet but since you are argueing as if it its full console exclusive there you go

As a huge SF fan who just bought an Xbone, not going to lie pretty pissed about it if it is a full exclusive. Hopefully the game isn't a system hog and I play it on my crappy PC.

A shame who thinks evil about GAF because of this ;)

Moneyhat exclusives are stupid.

It is definitely not a moneyhat exclusive if it is on PC, why pay money for the development of a game on another platform other than yours?

Do you people even know what moneyhat means?, everyone just seems to stupidly throw that word around

TR is a moneyhat deal

This is a console exclusive deal like indies, No Man Sky on PS4

Man... I am SOOOO Tired of recycled character designs....

They had such good concept art to work with as well in SF4:

Change your damn default outfit for once! Tekken is major offender of this as well.

Only series that ever decide to update their character art these days are Mortal Kombat and Soul Calibur. Tekken used to be amazing at this seeing the progression of characters with every iteration... but ever since Tekken 5 they couldn't be bothered.

Cool for the people that are hyped. I'm way too fatigued on 2D fighters to be enthused.

Aw shit, this would've been much better if it was announced at the PS event tomorrow.

Hopefully there are still enough surprises left.

I imagine it's the costs race, since in order to compete and be profitable in the AAA industry you have to spend large amounts of money to keep up. I mean SE as FF but that's almost become a curse for them in AAA space.

SF is however a very big oddity, It's certainly not the most expensive of games to produce and has the least expectations on cutting edge graphics due to large dedicated community. It's extremely odd they couldn't take a risk on even that.

Warner and Namco seem pretty unphased on this front as well between Mortal Kombat X and Tekken 7.

I can get Arc with Guilty Gear as that's a really niche series.

Edit: I noticed that oddly apparently every fighting game runs on Unreal these days.

The PS4-EXCLUSIVE thing doesn't bother me, considering it's also coming to PC and Capcom is supposedly bleeding money as is.

Calm down...
What I was saying is: eventually, PS4 owners will get TR anyway... Thats the point of temporary exclusivities. About SF, I still dont know, but I hope its temporary aswell.
