Street Fighter 5 for PS4 & PC teaser trailer

To be honest, Microsoft have "money-hatted" Dead Rising 3, Titanfall and Tomb Raider so far. Either the previous game was on a Sony platform or it was planned to be on a Sony platform before Microsoft spent big money to ensure it was exclusive to their console.

Sony on the other hand haven't made such a deal until now and the details of this deal are up in the air.

I just hope this doesn't become the norm in this industry.

They should have went with that cel-shaded guilty gear look and used either the artist from the alpha series (my preference) or SF3(a great second choice).

They've gone and done it... they've gone and woke the sleeping dragon now.

Sony should have left well enough alone and now they're going to get it. It's not enough that they're bleeding benjamins from practically every crevice of their existence. Now they go and throw immense moneyhats at a niche game like Street Fighter just to piss off the market. Why pay to keep a game out of the hands of as many gamers as possible? Why not put that money into first-party studios and games instead?

I know, I know... this is the way the business goes as they say. Well, they forced Microsoft's hands with their early sales lead and Microsoft only responded with an NPD whooping (source: musings thread) by way of incredible deals and value. Microsoft will undoubtedly follow this announcement up with some real megatons of their own.

Gears remake collection. A true Banjo sequel. Halo 5 beta in the hands of gamers. The next Bayonetta, Dead Space and Crysis as exclusives. Those are the kinds of blockbuster response announcements I expect, and then some. You hit Microsoft with a jab, you best be ready for a flurry of uppercuts coming at you in response.

Your 3 dollars is in the post.

Holy shit, wasn't expecting this. And PS4/PC exclusive. Wouldn't have expected that, either. I'm glad I just bought a PS4 and not an X1!

PS4 getting first dibs at the first revision of the game at the very least; kinda sucks for XB1-only Street Fighter fans.

Will probably get this on PC.

All the warriors coming out of the woodwork are the real stars of this thread. Thanks for the laughs.

I don't see what was so very "warrior" about my post. It seems fairly logical that one would have a different reaction to this given what we've seen from MS already this gen and last (and at least SF5 is coming to PC anyway and is not Sony-platform exclusive). It's like saying a store should do the honorable thing and not have Black Friday sales . . . then watch everyone else get the foot traffic on the biggest shopping day of the year.

Ok, now that I’ve digested this a bit, I’ll drop some thoughts. Apologies if it gets a little wordy.

So something SF related was clearly teased a while ago, as people are mentioning with Hadouken Cabs. I thought it was an Ultra port, but it seems to have been this.

Capcom’s been very clear about funding/money issues, so for the people saying they didn’t need it, I’d be cautious on that. Street Fighter V, like the others before it, will have many iterations and revisions on it. It’s a platform to them, not a game. Sony essentially provided the money to set up their platform for the next 6-10 years. Think about it in that manner, and see why Capcom made the deal.

Also of note; the difference between this and Tomb Raider (at least so far), and the main problem I had with the Tomb Raider deal, was clarity. Microsoft made that announcement, people started asking questions, and what can only be described as a Tony Hawk level of spinning occurred, before they eventually just gave up and basically confirmed a timed exclusive.

With the teaser trailer, it’s up front and center: Exclusive on PS4 and PC. No wiggle room on that. If this was going to be shown at PSX, why is the PC in there? Because Sony straight up wants no confusion. They did something similar at Gamescom, no? Separated the games which were timed and true exclusives, and stated as such?

Now this can all go awry if it’s a region-specific trailer (though the fact that it’s in full English and uses Explosions in the Sky makes me think it’s the worldwide one) or PR goes real murky with it after they announce it, but I think it’s a true console exclusive, and if they jump out and make it clear from the start, it should mitigate a whole lot of issues.

A shame posts like these get buried in the salt so quickly.

Also, this is still cracking me up:
(That trampled Wii U...oh boy)

insert foot indeed.......this is some amazing "Japanese culture expert" stuff.

The PS4-EXCLUSIVE thing doesn't bother me, considering it's also coming to PC and Capcom is supposedly bleeding money as is.

Nah there's no way Sony paid to keep this off competitors platform. They wouldn't sink that low.

It's about that Japanese honor. I'm an expert.

No he doesn't unless he can prove the same people who bashed one were OK with this. It is a gross generalization. Gag is thousands of people.

It really doesn't matter who said what and who's console warrioring for whom. Plenty of folks have pointed fingers back the other way with some "now that Sony does it there's outrage" type stuff. It's all childish. At the end of the day we're all consumers, and these deals aren't good for consumers.

Man... I am SOOOO Tired of recycled character designs....

They had such good concept art to work with as well in SF4:

Change your damn default outfit for once!

Everything we saw is probably placeholder anyway, models and animations. It's too early to judge anything.

Megaton right in your face suckas !

But good because SFV will definitely be a worldwide release and not like some other very attractive 2D/3D anime fighter aka Guilty Gear !!111

Exclusivity deals might not be a bad idea for Capcom if they really are in such dire straits.

Get the Sony money for SFV, and then wait for MS to come with big sack of cash to ensure they don't miss out on the goodness and that Super SFV appears on Xbox.

Double whammy!

It is not confirmed, but it is very unlikely that Street Fighter requires cofinancing and Sony was the only one to offer.

You are right. It shouldn't have required co-financing, but that exactly seems the reality of the current Japanese AAA developement environment. Duckroll and Nirolak already were discussing this with games like Tomb Raider, Sonic, Dead Rising, Bayonetta, etc being examples of this.

It seems that the big Japanese devs don't want to take risks anymore, so maybe this game wouldn't even be made without Sony's involvement. So imo it's to early to get mad about this without knowing the full detaills.

For real though. I want to see speculation about the game, everyone's just complaining about exclusivity.

Right? It's motherfucking Street Fighter V, it's a console seller for the people who care. I'm glad it's coming to PC so I can use my current stick, but if it wasn't, well, fuck it, time to buy a new stick then.

Capcom has seen almost every business venture of late either fail or decline, and they don't seem to have much business vision at the top outside of "something is popular, let's try that," so I suspect they've decided to retreat to trying to make money the easiest and safest way possible.

I feel they're a candidate for becoming the next Tecmo Koei as opposed to a local industry leader like they once were.

Well you have been following up with Japanese mobile front so I'm sure you know how Capcom is rather underperforming on that.
With the newest MH getting mixed reception isn't helping either I suppose

I don't think Capcom needed help to create one of their biggest IP though.

This is SF not something like Okami. Even if i am a simple casual SF player, i am a bit disappointed that Sony also did the same think as MS here. At least use that money to help vaporware like Ninty here or at least make new IP like W101.

Sony use money to fund and create more diverse title than anyone else in the console space.

One title hardly changes that.

Looking at the screens, they just took the character models from the last game and added some more polygons.
There's a comparison picture somewhere earlier in the thread. But good luck finding that now.

Proportions of the characters are different and the style is overall different. Otherwise, still the same design.

Saint Titanfall
Warner and Namco seem pretty unphased on this front as well between Mortal Kombat X and Tekken 7.

I can get Arc with Guilty Gear as that's a really niche series.

Edit: I noticed that oddly apparently every fighting game runs on Unreal these days.

I think Deep down and Phanta Rei are basically in development hell, which has basically pushed Capcom to take as little risks as possible.

What I don't get is that their Mobile division as far as I can tell isn't even doing that well There's no real apparent green pastures here just more contraction.

Man, this thread is great. I really can't tell if you're trolling or 10 years old.

Marvel

could never
I bet it's PS4 exclusive in Japan and releases on both in the states. MS is dead in Japan and SF series is huge there still.

That is my hope, otherwise I'll be playing SF for the first time on PC. Which will be weird unless I can afford a decent fight stick.

Then I'll double dip and get a PS4 lol.

It seems to me that Japanese publishers are starved for cash. That´s why they put their IP´s for sale. Not taking these kind of risks from big publishers is a sad state of affair.
