One thing I started to wonder is whether this would be released at arcade in Japan.
If it is then Sony may release yet another arcade system based on Playstation.
(SF4 was not on PS-based arcade board though. Fighters like Tekken and Gundam were PS-based).

As very much a neutral on the franchise and my gaming (although my social aspects lean towards my Xbox simply because the majority of my gaming friends are there), I just have a hard time wrapping my head around the idea of going exclusive. HOW exclusive is a better question to be asked here. But still, why go this route when you've run such a inclusive franchise model for so many game generations? The only thing that comes to mind are business agreement issues. Which ones? Who knows--and I'm not going to speculate. But I'm hoping this might change sometime down the road...for ALL fans of the franchise.

As a fan, this is a nice surprise announcement. As an enthusiast and supporter of the industry as a whole, it's fairly dissecting and concerning. I just want to know ALL fans could be able to enjoy the game. Especially the competitive community that holds this balance near and dear to their hearts.

A strange game to make a deal for timed exclusivity, though Sony does lack a fighter.

Microsoft's Killer Instinct reboot has been successful, Smash is Smash, Allstars flopped.

I guess if you are going to go for a fighter, you aim for one of the best.

Guity Gear Xrd exists, you know?

I don't really have a problem with 3rd party exclusives honestly as long as they aren't used in place of internal 1st party development. The only reason I don't like MS moneyhatting exclusives is because I find their internal studios and true first party lacking and in dire need of growth and investment in it. I don't like when they spend large amounts of money on just snatching 3rd party exclusives instead of bolstering/founding new studios. Sony has a vast 1st party and a lot invested into their studios so it doesn't bother me as much because I know they are putting the work into their 1st party. If MS bolsters and improves their internal studios I'd be okay with them getting 3rd party exclusives too. Either way ideally a 3rd party exclusive should still be funded by Sony/MS or the like.

Win some lose some. Glad MS money hats have been for games I don't give a rats ass about so far and now this includes SFV with Sony lol.

My only hope is Mass Effect or Elder Scrolls is never grabbed by MS.

Perhaps it is worth waiting to see if this is a Bayonetta 2 type of scenario. If the game would not have been funded by Capcom otherwise, which Ono's previous statements seem to suggest, I'm glad Sony swooped in with support. If not, it seems like a lame move on Son's part.

I have neither an Xbox One nor a PS4/PC that is worth a damn, so I can't get salty about this decision at all.

That said, Capcom better kidnap Mick Gordon and force him do the soundtrack.

I Swore I would never buy a SF or MVC game again since they release a arcade/ultra/ mega edition 6 months later, still I'm salty it's Console exclusive to PS4 as I'd like to get my gamer score up on XB1.

Deader than dead. In fact, it probably was never even a thing.

It had an online TV series like the Real World and Road Rules. Except this had lots and lots of no-one playing it afterwards. Everyone took the check and went home to play SFIV.

It brings back some great memories. That long slump after SFIII and finally getting a theme to be proud of (something mainstream that doesn't show itself as selling out). SFIII was sort of under the radar until Third Strike, so anything pushing it further is good. I just hope it holds that same spot it did back in 2008.

While I'm pretty sure that the sequel at the very least would come out on the Bone one thing to realize is that bagging the initial SF5 as a console exclusive would pretty much cement PS4 as the console of choice for the FGC in general.

So you're acknowledging that there are indeed differences between the situations as Amir0x stated. But are tired of console warrior garbage and wish people would look at the bigger, broader, less detailed/discussable (is that a word?) version instead, which is "publishers like money and exclusives". Can't say I'm on-board with that kind of thinking, especially on a discussion board.

Ideally, I'd like to see less concern for the business and more of a discussion just about the game itself. There's a teaser trailer for Street Fighter V. I'd like to see Street Fighter fans reacting to this news in terms of what the trailer showed and what they want to see out of a Street Fighter sequel. Not page after page about which console exclusives are bullshit and which aren't.

Sony has pretty much got themselves an exclusive game that will advertise itself and their console for at least a year(tournaments, twitch, streaming,EVO etc etc will almost always be showing a PS4version). They've practically guaranteed that the fighting game communitys primary console will be a PS4.

Its a pretty smart choice, because even with it being a niche genre compared to tomb raiser,it has a bigger benefit for the duration of that exclusivity period. Besides, once the audience is pretty much established on the PS4 theyre not going to switch to the Xbox for future iterations.

Fighters are Exclusive Console worthy again, without the IP being owned by the manufacturer? Congrats Fighting Games! Something that's worth paying exclusivity for helps breed competition between developers even more than "Every game is on every system" styles.

For now, KI has reason to try and be THE premiere fighter on it's console. Unless Microsoft takes that good relationship they built with SNKP over the 360 and original Box lifetimes, and gets Fatal Fury/ KOF exclusive.

SNKP would obviously need some financial help to make the next game from them as big as we'd like it to be. I could actually see that selling some consoles in JP, if it were Arcade and XB1 exclusive.

Anywho, as a big Fighting Game fan, getting a system years after it's release for a core fighting game isn't that big a deal. I'd LOVE to have this announced for my Xbox One, sure, but I'm not hugely opposed to getting a PS4 by 2016+ to play this, y'know? It's JUST Street Fighter, it's not like it's a series I'm more concerned about the return of. If they took a really Niche, "Only one release per gen" fighter like RIval Scools series or Darkstalkers, and made that Exclusive, I'd be a bit more annoyed. But SFV Will be on EVERYTHING still living by it's next iteration, so it's kinda a non-issue for me, for now.

As far as the art style of the game... OK. Not really too far from what KI looks like in ways. V, Tekken 7, Mortal Kombat... none of them really feel like they, as established series with solid dev houses who've made the genre's games for years, are really stepping THAT far past a game made by devs who just kinda started on making their first game together in the genre. I don't know what to feel about that yet.

Xrd is still the most unique looking entry graphic-improvement wise, and it even has a PS3 version that seems surprisingly solid.

That's probably an EXTREMLY early teaser, however, so that's OK. I guess we'll see the standout, V defining effects much later on in development. So far, it's so much like 4 with the Ink effects, and no special or defensive moves looked like the next "it" factor in a new numbered SF yet.

Just having a new numbered version of a fighter in development is more important to me (for now) than what system it's on. It's the existence of the games that's most important to the FGC as a whole, not which system the game premieres on.
