Street Fighter 5 for PS4 & PC teaser trailer

I really hope this wasn't the case of Sony swinging over to Capcom and handing them money to not release it on Xbox One or to delay the release. That doesn't benefit any customer. If it is Sony helping Capcom much like they are helping them with Deep Down, then I understand. Is SFV using the Panta Rhey engine?

A strange game to make a deal for timed exclusivity, though Sony does lack a fighter.

Microsoft's Killer Instinct reboot has been successful, Smash is Smash, Allstars flopped.

I guess if you are going to go for a fighter, you aim for one of the best.

Wow you get enjoyment out of people who are mad that they can't play a series they may have enjoyed since they were kids. What an awesome attitude.

It's more like "Wow. People are pissed off over a thing that console manufacturers have been engaged in doing for years? That's amazing."

Third party exclusives have existed since the 8 bit era, it is not a new phenomenon and has not been detrimental to gaming or gamers.

Settle down for goodness sake.

Yes they have but the act of purchasing of successful established multiplatform franchises as a console exclusive has definitely become more commonplace as of late and it depresses me. It's one thing to buy into a new franchise and secure exclusivity but it's another thing entirely to prevent gamers who fully expected to play games in a franchise from being able to play said games. In no way is that shit acceptable.

While I give Sony props for at least being up front about it and not treating consumers like idiots who chant see through bullshit or wordplay and magic comma use that does not change the fact that thousands if not millions of gamers who were expecting to be able to play the next street fighter game can't do it on. their preferred and historically supported platform. It doesn't matter who does it it is reprehensible and worthy of derision and backlash in my opinion.

This. Dont stoop to MS shady tactics Sony.
In a way every console manufacturer's done this tho, it's nothing new, and Sony has definitely done it in the past, especially w/ the PS1.

At this point I say if it happens, it happens. When people say stuff like this, I'm not sure if they realize it's always been an industry thing. I think the only one that doesn't have a history of this is Sega, if we're talking more recent ones. Nintendo lived by doing shit like this, Sony did well w/ the practice and MS has the pockets (but maybe not necessarily the respect/convincing) to pull it w/ every damn developer on the planet. So really you're just hoping that whoever does it and when, it's not with your favorite game and not to a platform you don't own/prefer.

And that's okay. This is just one more reason for me to get a PS4. It sucks; but you can do what people have always done. Just buy the console with the games you want to play. Console manufacturers gotta try to give you some reason to buy their system, and exclusives still matter a lot for that reason.

I imagine that vanilla Street Fighter V will be a PS4 console exclusive but the inevitable "Super Edition" will be released on Xbox One as well about a year later.

I see the Tomb Raider situation playing out in the same way with a "definitive edition" hitting the PS4 in 2016.
This is absolutely going to be the case. The only SF games that have stayed to one platform are the EX ones, and we already know the deal w/ those. SFV is nowhere near the same kind of deal.

But the pro community is gonna have at least a year head-start by going on the PS4, even if it is the vanilla version.

XBO owners don't have too much time to wait, just like PS4 owners w/ the new Tomb Raider. They'll each get the other eventually, and if you can't wait, buy the other system for the exclusive you want to play. That's what exclusives are designed to make you do.

They've gone and done it... they've gone and woke the sleeping dragon now.

Sony should have left well enough alone and now they're going to get it. It's not enough that they're bleeding benjamins from practically every crevice of their existence. Now they go and throw immense moneyhats at a niche game like Street Fighter just to piss off the market. Why pay to keep a game out of the hands of as many gamers as possible? Why not put that money into first-party studios and games instead?

I know, I know... this is the way the business goes as they say. Well, they forced Microsoft's hands with their early sales lead and Microsoft only responded with an NPD whooping (source: musings thread) by way of incredible deals and value. Microsoft will undoubtedly follow this announcement up with some real megatons of their own.

Gears remake collection. A true Banjo sequel. Halo 5 beta in the hands of gamers. The next Bayonetta, Dead Space and Crysis as exclusives. Those are the kinds of blockbuster response announcements I expect, and then some. You hit Microsoft with a jab, you best be ready for a flurry of uppercuts coming at you in response.

Hahahahaha, this is incredible. I hope you're serious.

Very likely I'll double dip PC and PS4 version but I'm going to have to buy another arcade stick now... Street fighter 5 gonna cost me some money.

Direction? This has always been the norm, what new direction?
Nah, I'm not saying it's "new". But I would hope this kind of thing would be dying down from previous gens, when system architecture made it reeaaallly difficult to have multiplat games, so third party exclusives/moneyhats were the norm. But I guess it's still alive and well =/

You did. Check the two unedited posts I quoted. You said TR was a great grab for MS and you said Capcom is pissing off a portion of the SF community. I'm not denying that Capcom is pissing people off with this decision, but you clearly had a different reaction to both games and their exclusivity arrangements. That's the point.

I really don't care, to be honest. I just got a hunch when I saw SgtCobra's post, so I decided to check your post history, and my hunch was right.

Don't bother, the hypocrisy is strong with them.

I would buy this day 1 if it was available on Xbox One. It looks good. Now I'll just wait for a Steam sale.

Nice get for Sony, but I don't see why anyone would celebrate shit like this. And yes, it stinks just as much when MS does does it.

I'm quite looking forward to this, I enjoyed what I played of 4, still not as good as third strike.

Shame for the XBox one owners as it stands.

A lot of salt in this thread about moneyhats, so here's a different theory straight from my ass. Maybe the probable arcade version will be using modified PS4 hardware to keep down the costs, it happened before with some Namco games iirc with earlier playstations.

Doubtful as SF4 was always on Taito Type X2 and X3 HW (which was a straight up Intel (Core 2 Duo/sandy bridge i-series) PC). It would be silly to develop on special console derived hardware in today's world.

But then again it is Capcom...

just play doa5 with me release date TBA + 3 months for online

Holy hell, I go to sleep and all hell breaks loose!

I hope Sony didn't pay for it to not be on Xbone. :/ Funding games are ok but not this imo. Either way, it's a huge win for Sony if it is a full-blown exclusive.

I like what I see; a little plain (understandably), but the change in art style is welcome.

I hope it's simultaneous release, but either way I'll be jumping in on PC.

Eh, this reminds me a lot of the Tomb Raider deal which I'm not really fond of either. XB1 owners should take consolation in the fact that they will most likely get the game eventually, even if they have to wait for SSFV or something along those lines.

This is what happens when one side tries to go for those middle-performing 3rd party games as exclusives. This is that "competition" that everyone seems so fond of.
