Zelda looks really good. Mario Maker looks to be a very fun game. Can't wait to see more Star Fox most likely at E3 in 2015.

Looks promising. Can't wait to see more of the story and battle aspects when the game is closer to a finished product.

We are getting the original Legend of Zelda in HD.

And I couldn't be happier. Hopefully dungeons are all over the place, with a ton of secrets hidden across the world.

Fuck you horse, I'm Epona!

Honestly, I think the fact they're showing it like this (plus Aonuma's comments lately) shows that they are very confident in this Zelda.

I really don't understand how some of you don't realize that this is a controlled demo. They probably intentionally showed empty sections to demo the new horse controls. At this point it is way to early to judge. Just like SM3DW, Nintendo is only going to show what they want people to see.

What a terrible fucking showcase. Completely off-screen gameplay of practically barren environments? Awesome.

Game looks like it could be beautiful. Lousy way to show it off though.
They probably only wanted to show a brief glimpse, its their E3 game, after all.

Guys we know the game is in development, people are reacting to what was shown.
It will probably improve with a years worth of time but the criticisms still stand.

I thought the demo was sweet. The game looked absolutely beautiful. It's gonna be a long wait for it ;-;

Some people are just never pleased >.>

I like how everyone says this looks like shit.
Maybe that's because we saw off screen footage through youtube compression. Come on guys.

I just watched it again, and I feel that most of the "emptiness" complaints arise from them only showing off horse riding. If you look at the environments that they don't focus on, you will see that their is a lot of stuff to explore. We just need better video quality.

wait for the gamexplain video. It will probably point out a ton of things that people here will never notice.

I would have enjoyed this a lot more if it weren't for the awful, incredibly distracting dub. Made me want to pull my ears off.

Am I the only one upset over the completely empty world we've seen from Zelda so far?

We literally only saw trees...Epona... and a moblin.

Too early to really judge...anything...from that footage since they didn't really show much, but I love the direction they're heading, and I think the art looks beautiful.

Pretty much always knew I was going to buy a Wii U for this game no matter what.

Is it really just me, or... Is Zelda just not exciting me as much anymore because we are getting, like, two Zelda games each year?

I am kind of tired of seeing Link now, I just beat Hyrule Warriors and Majora's Mask comes out in two-three months, and I just bought the MK8 DLC with Link as a playable character and a Zelda race track. I also 100% Wind Waker HD just a while ago, so why not just CHILL on the Zelda releases and focus on the plethora of other IPs Nintendo got in stock?

Link Between Worlds excited me a great deal, but now... There are less Assassin's Creeds a year than Zelda, it feels like. Why not release this game in 2016 and put Metroid in 2015, so we have some... I don't know, variety.

Looks really nice though, I am just not overly excited. Especially considering Inquisition kind of satisfies my "Explore a nice-looking world on a horse-back"-needs.

Holy shit, the defense force is out tonight.

Most people are aware the game is in development, it doesn't make the criticism invalid. A person can only judge what is in front of them.

Yeah, just take out the name "zelda" and you'd get a honest debate going on i think, it looks visually stunning and it is quite early but from what they've shown which is what everyone is discussing it looks empty and hopefully there is more life and things going on

it's one thing i liked about red dead when i was just wandering around things were always happening

I don't understand why you can't understand that some people are just being critical of what is being shown and that's it. We know it's in development. We know it's a demo. Everyone knows that. Nobody assumes Zelda is coming out tomorrow, I assure you. Some of you guys can't deal with the slightest bit of criticism.

Oh, bitch bitch bitch.
Ummmmm. :|

The map felt rather lifeless and empty. Looked like a huge sandbox.

The horse riding sounds interesting though (how it avoid trees automatically and you can shoot arrows while in it). I am sure there is much more to the game. But still.

Most open world fantasy games and 3D zelda overworlds feel like that.

As much as I love Zelda and as pretty as the new game is looking, closing a 3-hour show with off-screen footage of a bit of traveling through woods is.... anti-climatic to say the least.

As long as there's one area of Clock Town/Windfall/Skyloft concentration, they can have as many similar beech groves as they want. I don't really see why not, every 3D Zelda has made a concerted effort on that front. TP tried to make the town density a bit more evenly dispersed throughout the map, but there were complaints that it was spread too thin, so folks need to understand there's a trade-off at play.

No, because we know the game won't be as barren as they showed tonight. Please stop.

I'm puzzled by your blind faith. Especially since the overworld has been bland and barren ever since WW.

you guys need to stop trying to police people's judgments.
/thread

Most of this thread reads like a big "leave Britney alone!" I love Zelda, played every game in the series but Zelda II, OoT is my favourite game ever, but damn I still have some critical thinking in me and I want to employ it.

Jesus Christ, they've only shown off-screen footage for a reason. The game is early and they don't want it to be fully shown in its current state. For good reason as you can see in this thread. People are desperate for new footage for months and months and then are unable to comprehend the footage when they get their wish earlier than anticipated.

What I said in the main thread:

C'mon guys, lets not pretend the way the newest Zelda was shown was bizarre as fuck. What Rockstar did with Red Dead Redemption and Max Payne 3 pre-release are the optimal ways of presenting gameplay. Zelda Wii-U still needs some time in the oven, that's obvious. The direction they're going in and what they're doing with the franchise is commendable though.

Was probably way too early to show it.

This is why we can't have nice things.

Like pretty much all of Nintendo's Wii U games have looked rough as shit when they were first revealed..and yet damn near all of them have been waaay better than their reveals.

have faith.

Almost all of the Wii U games looked "bad" before they come out. They always release clean and polished as hell. Assassins creed looked baller at e3. Came out and hit the toilet water.

Star Fox probably isn't ready to be shown. Nintendo works in a weird way, game will look like shit. Then a few months later its god tier. They have been doing this longer than anyone.

Starfox U has already been shown. It would have been better to have an update to that.
I do believe in the Nintendo seal of quality in their finished product. This reveal seemed unwarranted in its present state.

Some people are just never pleased >.>

I'm pretty easy to please. Just make a compact dense overworld with a linear progression ala OoT and MM and I'd be in love.

you guys need to stop trying to police people's judgments.

If they don't want people judging the game and analyzing it, they should not show the game. The expectation when you show something like this is that people are going to freely judge it and criticize it. You should take it in stride just as surely as the developer's are.

I am the biggest Zelda fan, but I think it's fair that people think the overworld was large, barren and uninteresting. It's a legitimate position based on what they showed.

I didn't tell anyone to not criticize it, I asked them to think before they do. The same can be said for folks who get too excited, but honestly how can we judge anything from that video with any decisiveness?

Splatoon, Mario Maker, Star Fox, Zelda, Kirby, Yoshi's Wooly World and Mario Party looks to be Nintendo's lineup for next year then... and the annual E3 holiday release surprise too, most likely.

Wii U is gonna have another stellar year of first party releases.
