They should rename this game to The Legend of Mononoke.

Wish it was as dark though.

So people, what do you think about the enemy designs we have seen so far? Much more gritty than SS in my opinion.
I can't tell from the video quality.

They look like bokoblins straight out of TWW though. I'm really not a fan of the smaller enemies in Zelda. (Chuchus, bokoblins, keese) show me the big guys! Redeads, Stalfos, darknuts, moblins, lizafols! I love the more humanoid, intimidating enemies.

A giant peahat in this game would probably be scary too.

Can't really tell what we've seen.
Didn't the Moblins (or whatever they're called) look like the WW ones?

I know what its is... I know what crying is too. Trust me lmao

There are plenty of people who take speculation a bit too far and move it into the 'hopes and desires' category, and they are the ones going to be disappointed when their wildest dreams don't come true. I've been playing the speculation game since alttp and i've learned to just appreciate the games for what they are and to not hope that my wildest dreams will come true. Just sit back and enjoy the game for what it is, not what you imagined it COULD be. That's what spawns the zelda cycle.

That said, this game is shaping up to be my wildest dreams come true :p

Has Link ever killed a person? I guess Ganondorf's a person.

He never actually kills ganondorf. Even stabbing him in the head so hard that he turns to stone isn't... killing him. More like temporarily banishing him.

Something that immediately jumped out at me the minute I watched that was that the wind seemed to be set lower when compared to the E3 reveal. I'm guessing the that the wind is not necessarily dynamic but has differing intensities. So at a a more windy time the grass will move more, the trees will flow and that red flag to the right will blow with the wind. At least that's what I'm hoping, the wind and movement in everything in that reveal trailer really added to the world feeling alive.

Its GPU is much more capable than those are and its a DX10-11 level system with a far more efficient memory usage. Its more ore less the dreamcast compared to the N64 and PS2 PS4 is the gamecube. Xbox one is the PS2

Bwhahahaha.

IGN and Gamespot videos after the VGA's are both hyped about Zelda and Nintendo in 2015, nice to see the major press giving Nintendo the love it deserves

They'll probably spice up the overworld by throwing random big enemy/boss encounters in there.

And let me say that I'm really glad we're getting a standard overworld in a 3D Zelda again.

Link seems more acrobatic in this game, if the e3 trailer/horse time
witch time but with horses
is any indication...but can he run like in Skyward Sword? Or run up small walls? Those were much welcomed additions to the game.

Yea he was pretty athletic in SS too, glad they are keeping and expanding on that

You know what has me exited (so far)?

The fact that there's no sidekick/helper like every Zelda game has had since OoT. No one to tell you what to do or where to go.

So far, of course.

The Epona is your sidekick and tells your where to go, did you not hear them say you dont have to control her lol

Right on thats exactly how I feel. Even the spoiler part. I swear Zelda games are the definition of video game and this one is looking too baller right now.

I'm a little disappointed in the new horse controls. For me simply controlling a character in 3d space is a lot of fun, assuming the game is from ead and features their typically sublime mechanics. But we jump on epona and simply watch her run? Just so i can occasionally fire an arrow? I dont understand that decision. Let me play the game instead of watching it play itself.

And, since we have gyro controls anyway, none of this seems necessary in the first place. Like yoshi in smg2, the motion controls allow both aiming and character control simultaneously. Considering that, we shouldn't need auto epona.

I assume they'll throw in random minibosses like the one from the E3 trailer. Just out of nowhere it'll hunt you down and chase after you. The world is big enough that you can actually run away for a while. The auto-horse-riding is great so you can shoot as you run away. It might help make travelling seem less onerous if you're chasing after or being chased by enemies for parts of it.

?? You fully control epona. They just added auto-horse (similar to the ship sailing on its own) so that you can shoot/look around, if you want to. Every time aonuma let go of the controls, epona stopped going as fast. You probably need to control her to go full speed, but if you stop controlling her, she doesn't just stand in place, she keeps moving on her own. They are in no way making this game forced autopilot.

Just compare epona to the wind waker ship, but with the ability to automatically dodge trees. It was probably necessary for travelling such large distances.

Core tech, there doesn't seem to much in the way of downgrades. Some asset diversity is lower.

It was never going to look exactly like the initial reveal. Mainly because Nintendo released bullshots. The game was never going to be internally rendered at 1440p and downscaled to 1080p. It will be a 720p game.

This again, pretty sure this was proven to be 1 poster on b3d speculating whether or not that's what happened as opposed to a set in stone fact or agreed opinion of b3d. Not saying that Zelda U will have perfect AA at that scale of course (Heck as i said earlier on the topic awhile back, i'd be pleasantly surprised if the game was at 1080p to begin with) but the whole "1440p downscaled" thing needs to stop being mentioned as fact.

No im speculating :P (dont kill me)

Im just mesing with you I like you but i also like to disagree with you. You are very passionate zelda fan though and i like it.
Okay fine. Then I will continue to gush out "speculation"

Zelda has so much Japanese folklore. From the kami to the Kitsune to the Kodama to the Oni.

And now with all the Mononoke talk, I wonder if this will be an extremely eastern flavored story.

Oh man, I think I need to rewarch some miyakazi stuff.

He's not exactly swinging at people with a pool noodle.
Link's a goody two shoes. <3 But I think he's killed a couple of people...

Twinrova - they were old anyways.
Ganondorf - In TP and TWW.
Sakon - it was a mistake...yeah.
Guards - in ALttP and FSA, but they were probably undead/fake?

It's always jarring when Link kills someone, I think that's why the ending to TWW was so badass.

Odds are, and this is complete hogwash speculation on my point, that the game wasn't ready to be fully shown off yet but Geoff really wanted Nintendo to bring the goods to support and further legitimize this first awards show.

Don't be so hard on yourself because that's exactly how it went down. Had it not been for this event we wouldn't have this footage. At least not until another Direct and I doubt even then.

I dunno. He doesn't seem to be touching the stick that much. Mainly to adjust the direction.

Thinking back to Oot and TP, you had to hit the A button to keep up your speed and you couldn't over do it or else you'd slow down. I'd rather they brought back that element (assuming they haven't) or just make pushing up on the stick (and hold it there, like normal link control), take epona up to top speed.

I'd just rather they emphasize character control while riding rather than arrow shooting which, gyro or not, i suspect is going to be a little wonky and hard to pull off. Hence the slow motion dismount.

Focus on speed and chasing or being chased while on the horse. Make me avoid my own trees for gods sakes. Imagine link trying to desperately catch up to a group of bandits, crashing through the brush and frantically maneuvering epona round trees and other obstacles. I think thats got a better chance of being engaging than calmly shooting arrows while epona casually rides along.

You don't get as clean of IQ rendering at 1080p on a 1080 screen.

I said the 1440p res because that's the likely res it was downsampled from. Could be higher. It's not going to look anywhere near as clean was my point because it was internally rendered at a resolution WiiU isn't likely to hit. I'd wager it's going to be a 720p image on a bunch of 1080p screens. Which is going to muddy up the visuals.

I keep looking at the video. It's weird because it really does look downgraded from E3.

In the new video for example there are no flowers among the grass. There are barely any animated atmospheric formations. No piles of stones. Grass doesn't move in waves. That was all content that was successfully created and for some reason was pulled back? It doesn't make sense.

To me It almost looks like an earlier engine prototype. Either that or they switched off a lot of content just for this presentation because the game hasn't been optimized enough to run on Wii U yet. If they decided they were aiming too high with the E3 build and pulled back, then I don't want it.

Yes there are

There is no downgrade.

It's a different scenery, they're just close so they share similarities.

Miyamoto said: "there is insect and animal life as well" (2:22), but you can't see it because of the compression.

Flowers (scene is just too fast and video quality too bad to see it):

The grass also is still mobile as you can see it sway lightly with the breeze based on literally the very first scene before Link goes to the cliff top

as well as when he is killing those enemies after going past the dungeon

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0y4hv62YEw#t=159

And once more as Link approaches the horses (Hardest one to spot)

In terms of atmospheric formations, i'm not sure what exactly you mean. Are you talking about the mist in the first scene from the E3 trailer? because that was clearly at a completely different time compared to this which if the time shown in the demo is accurate happened at 7pm as opposed to the E3 footage which correct me if im wrong looked like it was in the morning or at the latest early afternoon.

In regards to rock formations you can clearly see various ones during the gameplay demo as well.

You really want to get stuck on trees in the middle of a dramatic chase?

The #1 complaint for Epona was always getting stuck on s***. This is good.

I feel like maybe the DS titles rubbed off a bit. But hopefully it's nothing like the DS "overworlds."

Neither, at least I think, as in the e3 image Link is facing north with the sun in a late evening almost about to transition into a sunset position. Here's what I think it is, and it is Hyrule.

to this.

So, E3 Link would be standing at the bottom center of the new map?

Also, I assumed Hyrule would be in the middle of the map (in the big chunk of land surrounded by the rivers)

Ah just noticed the push a to maintain speed seems to be in. Missed that the other times i watched.

I guess that makes sense. i thought it was in fact a wind waker boat situation. Concerns mostly alleviated.

I think the main concern is that you don't want to break your finger off mashing or holding buttons for 4 to 10 minutes. The world is huge, so constant input from the player to maintain control/speed isn't exactly ideal.

I'm wondering since there are wild horses if that means your horse can die and you will have to tame a wild one. Would be a cool feature.
