Legend of Zelda Wii U Gameplay Demo

The Wii U's graphical capabilities are in the same ballpark as the PS3/360 with twice the amount of memory and a more modern GPU. I wouldn't worry that the Wii U wouldn't be capable to fill those vast lands with content/animals/people/villages/towns etc. If the end product is still as barren as what Nintendo has showned yesterday, I wouldn't blame it on the console, but on time and pressure to release a big IP next year. But before that happens, I think Nintendo rather pushes the game back to a later date.

Its GPU is much more capable than those are and its a DX10-11 level system with a far more efficient memory usage. Its more ore less the dreamcast compared to the N64 and PS2 PS4 is the gamecube. Xbox one is the PS2

Link seems more acrobatic in this game, if the e3 trailer/horse time
witch time but with horses
is any indication...but can he run like in Skyward Sword? Or run up small walls? Those were much welcomed additions to the game.

I hope he can.

I thought it added a lot to Skyward Sword, personally.

You know what has me exited (so far)?

The fact that there's no sidekick/helper like every Zelda game has had since OoT. No one to tell you what to do or where to go.

So far, of course.

Just realized that Link has different animations for walking up hills and walking forward, YES, love that kinda attention to detail. So glad Nintendo built seemingly this from the ground up.

It's a bit early to say that for sure. Don't think any Zelda is revealed with the companion being shown off the first year (unless the SS teaser pic counts)

If true this might actually make up for it being open world. :)

Edit: I would accept Midna.

Color correction settings don't quite feel there yet, and a tad dark maybe, but I liked this frame I landed on. The grass looks pleasant

This is when they were spinning the camera around and demonstrating Epona's AI.

EDIT: OOPS I FORGOT F.LUX WAS ON THIS WHOLE TIME NEVERMIND ME.

Looks fine for a short slice of gameplay showing the general openness of the world without exploring the nuances in the design. My only worry, as from the start, will be that the world is full of horrible check listing quest design. Fingers crossed.

I wonder if the NPCs will finally be voice-acted (by Troy Baker, of course).

Aonuma said helpers are gone. Both ALBW and ZeldaU will have no helpers.

Your just going to have to go to NPCs and ask for hints probably. Also Epona has a built in GPS system...so you may be okay.

I'm used to the partner character soaking up all the character development...where will they make up for that, I wonder? I need a story trailer! @__@

ALBW had a helper though. What else would you call Hilda stopping me every time I'm remotely close to a new dungeon?

Another clear sign of downgrade is the fact that the game dosent run on full screen anymore. The playable area is now only a small box to the left, while the rest of the screen is taken by the image of two man talking. Here´s proof

Compare it to the footage shown at e3 and you will notice that the old version uses the full screen, instead of the terrible downgrade we see now

The old chinese man was present in the E3 demo as well, though. Look again.

Clever girls

Nobody waves the gamepad around. Its flipping tilt controls to the left and to the right slightly up slightly down

Aonuma seemed to be moving it around quite a bit, especially during the slow mo arrow time aiming. To each their own but I am hoping there is an option to turn the gyro controls off like there was in OoT3D

I'm really excited by the day/night cycle in this footage, as well as the tall grass and how it reacts to the player. I'm hoping they add much more wildlife and baddies to make the overworld feel more alive, as well as various traveling NPCs. I want it to be at least on par with RDR when it comes to travel and exploration. Random encounters would also be a welcome addition, if done correctly.

I think Miyamoto jumped the gun when he referred to the horse as Epona. I have a feeling you will be able to choose your horse in this game, judging by the wild ones we see in this footage.

The day/night cycle will be nice if we can manipulate it at will like in OoT, MM, and WW. It was complete shit in TP.

Reposting for new page since this is killing me lol

Guys, I have job for everyone! I am trying to figure out which of the following 2 theories is more accurate.

OR

Here is a reference for scale:

...are we even sure we're in Hyrule...? :0

They both look like they're onto something.

That's the same exact voice actor from SS for Link.

There's no music until you get into a fight.

Link is still right handed but the bow looks more important than the sword...which makes sense since everything is so wide and open.

There's an ingame clock on the gamepad. It says 19:00 or 7:00pm for sundown. Might indicate that time is important and certain scenarios are active at certain times. MM or OoT influence?

So far we've seen goats, horses, birds and farmers on the overworld, as well as bokoblin looking monsters and a giant robot crab boss.

Looks like they're taking things they couldn't do in OoT/TP and applying it to this world.

Magic returns...thank god. Stamina might be gone since it would be a nuisance in a more open environment.

Not sure what the point of the cloak is. I think this is his new outfit for the entire game though. I bet the signature green will show up at the very end or as a secret bonus. Only thing I can assume is that he hides his identity with the cloak. Maybe something or someone is after him?

I'm going to assume the overworld is similar to TWW where there is a puzzle and secret along with enemy fortresses and loot spots all over the map. It's fun, but I hope the incentive is high enough for me to want to explore.

Disappointed that the map is just given to you. It'd be more interesting to see it clouded for the player to unveil.

Beacons from SS return and the ability to glide around returns from TWW. Horseback fighting returns from TP.

...there better be towns.
Alot to learn..about this game sounds more like it. Assuming and making up stuff will be the end to some of you I swear lol

If they don't bring back the ocarina, perhaps they will allow for time to pass by setting up camp like RDR. I keep referring to that game, but it just really set the bar for me. I've longed for a Zelda this vast since I played it.

When did he say that?
If there is a helper, they will be very nonintrusive.

Kotaku: So in Skyward Sword, a few years ago, I think that a lot of people loved that game—I enjoyed that game quite a bit—but one of the biggest criticisms or complaints was that it took a very long time to actually jump into the gameplay because there were a lot of tutorials and a lot of introduction and cut-scenes in the beginning. Then Link Between Worlds came along and you just jumped in right away. So I wonder, when planning for future games, are you going to go more towards that Link Between Worlds approach or Skyward Sword, or something in between? How do you feel about intros and tutorials these days?

Aonuma: Yes. When we created Skyward Sword, I really felt the need to make sure that everyone playing the game understood it. But I also understand now, in hindsight, that when you go out and buy a game, you buy the game because you want to play it, and you don't want to have any obstacles in the way. And I guess it was received as a bit of an obstacle. In a game, it's when you get stuck, when you want that help. And I kinda frontloaded all that in Skyward Sword, and it doesn't really help to get that information when you don't know what to do with it. So that was a real learning experience for me. So I'm going to be careful not to do that.

Probably.
I might be wrong, but doesn't pretty much all hair go gray? It's not like varying like baldness I believe.

I ask cause he's 10 years older than Aonuma, yet Aonuma looks like he could be Miyamoto's father. So either he dyes his hair, or sustains himself via the life force of younger game designers. Both are equally possible.

It's called speculation. Plenty of fans have called out things years before Nintendo says anything. Like Wolf Link and Fi being the Master Sword. Let the fans do their thing. :p

I'm gonna go take a guess and say the map is at least bigger than anything Bethesda as done.

EDIT: Maybe not.

Odds are, and this is complete hogwash speculation on my point, that the game wasn't ready to be fully shown off yet but Geoff really wanted Nintendo to bring the goods to support and further legitimize this first awards show.

I wonder if we'll ge another custom console like with Wind Waker HD. I'd love a Zelda themed console (different from the WW one), and my gamepad has a small blemish on the screen, so I wouldn't mind trading up for the custom console and a blemish free screen.
