So in a game with crazy-ass hair, robots, bears, kangaroos, and giant lizards...the stupid "kawaii uguu~" character design is the one that comes off as the most ridiculous? Really?
I mean, I think the character design is pretty stupid -the artwork at least looks much better, but just doesn't translate well to the more realistic look of the game- but the outrage coming from it is beyond ridiculous.
I don't know where you're getting the giant lizard thing from, but I personally do find combat robots, very large bears, genetically engineered kangaroos, and grotesquely muscled people with silly hair to be more credible fighters than a kawaii uguu pop-star who seems more focused on looking cute for the camera than actual fighting.
I mean, sure, we had Miharu, but she was a palette swap, and then a bonus character who was two steps above a palette swap. I feel like we've got enough perpetually teenaged girls confirmed for the roster (Xiaoyu, Lili, Asuka, and Alisa have already
all been confirmed), and no, Harada, that doesn't mean I want a "muscly skinhead man". What about more older women? Jun was nice. Michelle was... uh, well, she got ahold of Heihachi's youth elixir somehow and ended up looking younger than Julia. Kunimitsu was cool, I played her for a while. Catalina looks all right, though she reminds me greatly of Christie, and falls into that same early-mid twenties age range that Christie, Julia, and (I think) Zafina already occupy.
I really do think the female cast could use a little more diversity. I've kind of gone off on a tangent now, but I think it's something else I don't like about Chloe's inclusion. She doesn't represent very much that's new at all. She's like a Xiaoyu-Alisa combination with the kawaii factors turned up to eleven. Even her moves, as others have said, seem derivative of the capos and Lili. So I guess it's more than me simply disliking her design. Her inclusion strikes me as being, on the whole, worthless.
