36 minutes of The Order 1886 gameplay (offscreen)

Son of a whore!!

I love that some of the AI aren't glued to cover. Those guys really move around! The combat looks intense.

Yeah. The enemies actually try to move and flank you.

Yesterday, I would have said Driveclub was the best looking console game I have seen, I can't say that anymore.

Gameplay looks pretty generic. Not sure about this one. Graphics are great, so is the sound. This will live or die based on how creative they can get with the gameplay scenarios.

linearity isn't necessarily bad. In fact, it helps when you're trying to tell a story. Also this guy is horrible at playing games. I wonder if there was a language barrier for the instructions but still, is this how most people play games or something?

I'm not too disturbed by the QTEs or linear paths. How was the game initially described? I've always gone into it as this game being a very pretty Heavy Rain or a Telltale game. Maybe I'm wrong about that, but it makes sense to me.

I'm pretty excited.

I think character and story depth will be the most important since that's their focus. If they go all out to display the story, any flaws it has will really stand out.

The guy was most likely French because video was posted by French gaming channel.

Does Gamersyde has any presence on the show? We need their video. :D

Around 4 years in the making now, back in 2010 :)

They started preliminary engine work 7-8 years ago.
Well their hard work definitely shows. You wouldn't know if there's a chance of them being sucked into Sony's first party if this is a success? I'm assuming that Sony own the IP because from the whole Insomniac going to Microsoft thing it seemed Sony wants to own all the IPs they publish.

Yeah that's what I thought because he clearly wasn't getting the lock picking mechanic.

I really want to play this game now. I hope this mission didn't spoil any major story elements. Didn't seem like it. The guns seem suitably heavy (in that there's some impact and weight to them) and the sound effects are great.

Ah yeah, I meant in terms of what's shown in trailers and public presentations. Hardly any gameplay was shown before so I hope the next 5 or so minute trailer for The Order presents more gameplay similar to this demo.
For sure.

I also want to see an area with NPC's walking around where there is no fighting going on. I'm pretty sure I heard that there are areas like that (i think it was shinobi), London at this time was a busy place, I hope we see a bustling city scene and not just a tavern or something with a few NPC's.

Something along these lines

That depends on if RAD wants to remain independent...

Always bummed out when you're not given an option for nonlethal stealth takedowns. I don't care if it affects anything in the story or gameplay, I just like to have the option.

Yeah was that knife in the neck really necessary? I imagined The Order more classy and honorable.

For sure.

I hope we do too. I assume that moments like that are what RaD wants to save for when people get their hands on the game.

It does not look as QTE as God of War, and even then that is one of the most well regarded action series around.

I love cinematic third person action games and the Victorian / steampunk setting, half-breeds, and characters have me enthralled. I hear some of the concerns but I don't care anymore. I preordered the game and on launch day I am putting in the disc and judging for myself.

Ready at Dawn has done solid work. I think I can trust them to deliver.

Watching the Uncharted 4 melees really drives home how jarring all the cuts in The Order are. It takes me out of the game a bit, makes it seem more like an interactable cutscene than a part of the game I was playing. That clip they showed with the werewolf thing was just bad.

I was thinking the Uncharted 4 melees looked terrible too, but I'm always down on that series because the traversal and puzzles in Uncharted are such a let-down every time

Not sure what to say about the breaks in this though, they still seem unfinished, unless the little cutscene in place of a "game over" followed by a jarring blank state reload is final. The bullet time search for a button prompt I remember being intended to add choices to the QTEs, I'll withhold judgement on that for now. This video gives the impression the QTEs are spaced out a bit, which is good news if indicative of most of the game.

Level design seems better than I expected, and the AI does seem competent enough. Variety in enemies and tactics and how much the environment comes into play are going to make or break this game, and there's not much to judge that on in this video. The worldbuilding is so incredible it seems utterly wasted with so little meaningful interaction for long stretches in this sequence. I thought initially this game was supposed to have a lot of destructible geometry and such?

Right now, everything looks so familiar that I'm left mostly feeling like I've played this game several times already, and now my brain wants to nitpick silly things like "how the hell can no one see a guy aiming a rifle over a railing 20 feet away." Shooting pots and pans looks fun, though.

Judging from this short clip: I don't think it's actually possible to make a more bare bones third person shooter than this.

Developers don't need to invent revolutionary new features for every game they make of course, but The Order seems to have hit a new low in minimalism, seemingly having fewer or far shallower mechanics than even other simple cinematic third person shooter franchises like Uncharted, Mass Effect and Resident Evil.

Nothing shown here hasn't been done much much better a hundred times before in other games.

I guess this just goes to show how important impressive visuals still are.

I think this game looks great. Gunplay and all.

Guns seem to really have an oomph to the way they handle, the recoil seems really strong, I like it.

I'm struggling to imagine how that was your takeaway from this clip. Holy hell.

Your right. As much as I want to see an area like that I would rarher see it first when playing the game myself. I'm curious as to how many scenes like that there are. I wonder there is some kind of hub you can visit and go see Tesla with scematics or parts for new weapons and upgrades and stuff. That would be cool but I don't know how that would fit in with the games linearity. I imagine you probably just get givin new weapons as you progress? I dunno. Either way I'm dying to play this game.

I like that their approach has been back-to-the-basics, actually. Way too many games these days are going for bullet points rather than simple, effective design (open world, 5000+ hours of optional collectathon content, 50 usable skills for the sake of having 50 buttons to press). What you see as tired, I see as refreshing in today's gaming climate.

Wow.....just wow

Yah that jarred for me too. Sticking an enormous knife in someone's throat doesn't seem in character really if they have the option otherwise.

I guess the entire scenario is set up with early dialogue authorising lethal force but still. Just seemed over the top. TBH ignoring the lethal side that kind of killing is very messy, doesn't seem to fit with bring covert either.

I guess there's no thief style hide the bodies so I suppose it hardly matters since the level design will assume onvious bodies and lots of blood aren't an issue once you're past that opponent.

This isn't just the best looking game on the PS4 It's arguably the best looking game across all platforms including the PC

This game is using too many filters to give it that much credit.

Probably the best on consoles though. Uncharted 4 looks more impressive to me because of the scale, but Order makes for a better screenshot.

You say they dont but you whole post makes it sound like they have to.

This. As long as the gunplay is solid, and the A.I. isn't terribad, I won't complain. I might be in the minority here, but I actually think the 'branching melee QTE' look kind of cool. I'd rather try something like that then a simply one hit knife kill attack.

Coming from a primarily PC / Xbone user, I think this game looks incredible. Sure, it gameplay looks pretty simple, but what's wrong with that? As long as the game is fun, who cares how "generic" it is. The art design looks fantastic.

My only concern would be those black bars... They look extremely distracting, and I hated the same bars in The Evil Within. Totally an immersion breaker. Can't wait to pick up a PS4 next year for this and Bloodborne.

Dafuq? This post couldn't be any more ambiguous.

I don't want to go there. You can have your opinion but there are several things that detract from it being on that pedestal (especially comparing it to PC games that can push 4k visuals). One of them being the game can't even display the full 1080p.

Since we're talking about games not released then no. That belongs to Star Citizen with it's 30+ million poly scenes 4k+ textures etc etc. No other game is coming close to that.

Seems like if you like cinematic action games (which I do) this is top tier stuff. The graphics are amazing, of course. But I'm really relieved by how good the writing is. Already getting a sense of who all these characters are from this relatively short clip.
